There is another thread about that here but no.

In my experience unless you really get your heart rate up you aren't going to see calories burned lifting (nor should you). However the muscle you build does burn calories throughout the day. When I was obsessed with myfitnesspal I was always bummed weight lifting gave virtually no calorie burn, but it has other benefits (calories burned resting, increased ability for other activities).

The biggest annoyance I have experienced with weight lifting is actually hitting the crown or button.

When doing lifts that bend your wrist back (front squat, catching a clean, etc.,) the back of my hand will hit the crown or button and turn on Siri, pull up my favorites, or pull up the power off menu.

I'd also recommend turning off the activate on wrist raise while lifting so you aren't constantly turning the screen on.

I'm not doing any strength training right now because I have a herniated disk and unfortunately I aggravated it big time - which sucks. But I do cardio 5-6 days a week (elliptical, treadmill and bike), and right now I'm using my Milanese band because Sport band is still processing. I tighten up the watch a bit, because it tends to slide around when I'm sweaty, but otherwise it is working fine. I just wipe the underside off when I'm done, and I'm good to go.

I've done weight training (body weights as well as dumbbells and barbells), boot camp classes and regular old cardio with no issue. I consider my watch to be my little gym buddy. For things where my hand my hit the crown, I flip the watch over so it is on the inside of my wrist. For my bootcamp classes where things like planks and pushups are common and changes are quick, I just have to keep it on the inside of my wrist the entire time.

No one at my gym has noticed my watch (it is a small gym, people are pretty friendly especially in the boot camp classes).

Oh and I carry face cleaning wipes with me when I go to the gym, so I wipe my face after my workout and I started wiping the inside of my watch as well.

Haven't seen single Watch at Gold's Gym in Venice since the launch. So the serious bodybuilders don't seem to be interested.

I had the same issue, but it was my gloves that come down the wrist a bit that was constantly hitting the crown. I wish there was a mode to allow all the tracking, but required maybe a screen press to turn the watch on, since hitting the crown keeps the screen on much of the time - and I am sure hits the battery heavily.

I have a SS but I've had to resort to exercising with my milanese while I wait for my WSB. It's done fine for running though it gets a bit loose. Band is fine and a quick rinse does the job. Does loosen up a bit with racquetball. I'll have to try it with the watch flipped around and see if that helps. Heart rate seems fine but calories seem a lot lower than normal. But that could be because I manage to keep my heart rate low.

Its different when driving.....
first, I have car insurance and no apple care lol

...

Second, everyone else around you is careful not to get into an accident as well...at the gym, you can easily hit your hand on a handle and bam, that's it

1) Since you're so worried about damaging your $600 dollar Watch, buy Applecare+ (it's like insurance for your Watch).

2) If a weight falls on your watch, you have Applecare+.

Oh and I haven't found an app that can help me track weights and what not on my watch. I'm using Jefit on my phone but it is nice to be able to leave my phone in one place, go do something, control my music on my wrist, come back and enter my data or whatever.

Now, for the real questions gym junkies want to know...

- How comfortable is the Watch for cardio and weight lifting? Does it get in the way? Am a bit worried about hitting it with a weight one day.

- Is excess sweat wearing the body or band? The fluoroelastomer band should be able to withstand it fine.

Bonus:

- How many bros bro you over having a Watch?

My watch shipped on the 25th and I got it the next business day. I work out every day but Sundays and have had it on the entire time. I don't wear it during martial arts sparring for obvious reasons and that's the only time I haven't worn it at the gym.

The wrist wrap on my lifting gloves keeps it in place when I'm sweating so there's no risk of it running further down my wrist and getting into the line of fire. There's been four biking excursions and the same: comfortable, doesn't get in the way and seems to have accurate results when I used it versus Stava. I know others have had distance discrepancies between the watch and that app, but I haven't been able to recreate the problem.

Few guys at the gym have noticed and drooled on it wanting theirs. Three were waiting for theirs to deliver, one guy finally pulled the trigger and bought his on the Apple Store app on his phone. Needless to say the estimate on his delivery didn't wow him much.

I already spent a lot on the watch and wasn't planning/don't have the budget for apple care right now

Have used my watch everyday I have gone to the gym since having it.. It is a great tool not only for the fitness/activity tracking gear, but the ability to change music, glance at txt msg's etc.
I will however strongly recommend you get a screen protector for your watch. After umming and arrring when I ordered the watch whether or not I was going to put a screen protector on it, I luckily choose to put one on and on the 3rd days use, I had unnoticeably cracked the tempered glass screen protector, and it happened again just a few days ago. I have now put in an order for another 3 screen protectors, so I am able to swap them when they crack. Very lucky I put it on from day 1, there's no doubt in that!

This is like saying, I bought a BMW, but I don't have the money for the premium gas.

I'm not judging you or anything, but you obviously have a valid concern about hurting your Watch during a workout. Protect with for $69+tax...you might be thankful you bought it later. I promise I don't work for Apple, and I'm usually the last person to buy extended warranties, but I have had excellent experiences with AppleC+ and thus highly recommend it. Just think about it. :)

And did you set the Workout app to "other" for all the various classes? I am just off to try the watch at the gym for the first time - going to a class which is half cardio and half dynamic stretching. From what I've read so far it seems as if the best thing is to set it to "Other", just wondering if you agree.

Flip that baby to your other wrist with the crown pointing towards your elbow.

I should have the watch today, and am going to try Reps and Sets, and if that doesn't work out (pun), then I'll try Fitness Builder which requires a subscription.

Yup, even if I warm up on the elliptical, I just set my total workout to other.

I wish the workout app had something for lifting.

Apple Hipster Engineers don't lift weights!

We also need a round counter for shooting and a punch counter when you land a punch! Instead, we get a stand up and do nothing app...

Note to sedentary software engineers - merely standing up is NOT enough! ;)
