???

With Gigabit LTE capable on the XS series ... I doubt real 5G speeds will be faster than that for the next year+.
You doubt based on what?

Also XS series are Gigabit LTE mostly on paper nowhere near Qualcomm's X24 modem for example.

They changed the 3G labeling to 4G on the iPhone 4S and above at the insistence of AT&T, which just lost iPhone exclusivity to Verizon - the 3G label was still present on the Verizon iPhone. It's still labeled as such in the United States - on non-US carriers, it's still "3G".

edit: here's an article from 2012 about this "marketing triumph".

This was actually T Mobile that did the 4G thing as a marketing attack against Sprint’s slow-A WiMax. AT&T only changed theirs after the ITU said they could, almost a year after T Mobile. Their first device to do it was the Atrix 4G.

At this point Apple should just say no. That then was garbage. Is now even worse. There’s no special HSPA+ level technology that you have that others don’t. Everyone has the same service level. And Verizon should be called out too, they’re selling “5G” service too, with no stupid “e” qualifier. “First on 5G” marketing.

Well true it depends on where you are located but on the big cities it works well

Lived in edomx for 10 years, crap in toluca, plus cdmx, san Luis potosi, zacatecas, querataro and just about all of the other large cities I spent time in. You cannot use data based maos anywhere, had to use sygic offline maps.

Well T-Mobile USA started this fake 4g hspa plus in 2010.

Att just continuing the fake 5g

They do it it too is such a weak excuse. Same crap in politics too.

AT&T's 5GE marketing gimmick is brilliant. Everyone (including the all critics) are falling for it.
If people were to remove their rage glasses for a moment, they'd realize that every comment made about AT&T's 5GE advertising only promotes their cause. Everyone took the bait: hook, line & sinker.
Wake up!

With the exception of average Joe's, who are more interested in college sports, the rest of us are going Verizon or Tmobile.

Next you're going to insinuate that their ridiculous Direct TV Now move, is good publicity too. Cancellations illustrate otherwise.
