Throttled here. Got the warning text message the very first day I got the phone. Am sitting at 8 gigs used right now on unlimited plan with AT&T. Such BS. I haven't changed my usage at all. I don't stream Netflix and I don't watch YouTube videos. The most I do is an occasional iTunes Match to get a song. Have never gone over 2 gig in the past.

8GB's or carrier data and you dont do much?

This is odd, your phone might be running something in the background using a lot of data. Currently I've only used about 3.5GB of my unlimited and that includes multiple youtube videos per day, about 3-4 hours of streamed netflix, and 2 hours of pandora per day for about 4 weeks.

Guess what?
Your usage is not reported instantly.
It takes time to record and upgrade through their billing system and show up on that site.
That's what everyone thinks. How did I use any data at 2-3 am Im sleeping and etc....
You used the data, just not at that time that it finally recorded in the system.

Guess what? On a couple of those days, I was not working, and was home the entire day on wifi. It still shows I used data on those days?????? So, there is a bug somewhere.......

I guess not many people hitting their 5gb limit before getting throttled???

Our son on his 4S is at 4GB and 18 days into billing cycle and hasn't been throttled. In fact he's never been throttled at the '3GB' threshold. I never been throttled either on my 4S when I had it and averaged 4+GB/month.

Now I have an iPhone 5 so I'll see if I ever get throttled. I'm trying hard to hit 5GB before billing cycle ends. Honestly I consider myself a medium/heavy user. I'm at 2.25 GB right now, 18 data into billing cycle.

It's been a bug since at least the 4. I used to have the 4 and would see that high usage in the middle of the night. If I turned off cellular data before I went to bed, I wouldn't see the high usage in the middle of the night.

For those of you who have been throttled, is the throttling crippling where you data is slow where you can't do stuff like stream stuff?

If so then as a AT&T customer that would PMO.

I wouldn't mind being throttled down to let's say 1-2 Mbps. But if it crippled me then different story.

Sunny Isles Beach, FL speedtest

I live in Coral Springs, and i get way higher results there :)
Even on Saturdays, when I go to my sons pee wee football games (I coach his team), I always check my LTE speeds.

Lets just say that where I work (around Cypress Creek & I-95) is some of the slowest speeds I ever see.
I know Im far away froma tower @ work because my 4s used to drain TOO fast when I used the internet.

When you figire something out, please quote this message so I know to check this thread.

Ill try to remember to do some speed tests tonight by my house & report the results.
We will see, when i get home from football practice all I want do do it eat dinner & relax

Don just wanted to let ya know, Its you were right. Went into Applestore in aventura (they have AT&T antenna or repeater in store according to Idiots(Geniuses)) anyway I got 31Mb down in store but somehow tech deleted it when I walked out. I was driving along Sunny Isles on collins and 170th when I noticed it had been deleted and ran another just to check make sure it wasnt in store fluke and this the picture capture is what I got. Very nice. Im happy. I understand network was deployed here just a little over 3 months ago and their still working out the kinks and will probably get more Antennas up in upcoming weeks and months and thats fine by me. I was getting 1 to 3 max with my iphone 4 and know peeps that dont get over 4 or 5 with their 4s's so the fact that Im averaging around 5 when 3 used to be my max and in good areas can get upwards of 30 is ok. First couple of days I got it and ran a few test things were diffrent but it may have had something to do with my data plan not getting switched over which I have corrected. Enjoy your phone man I know I will.
:)

i got throttled at 7 gb

its total bs that they throttle you when its an "unlimited" plan

everytime they throttle me though i go crazy using data as a big **** you to att

i think last time i checked im now at 76 gb's this month

webpages were still ok but anything video even like a 35 second video would buffer

Lmao,
I could see how I would do the same thing, Im curious how you download 76 gb of data thought? Just stream long HD youtube content or something? Im curious because the day I get throttled I suspect Id be pissed and wonder how to do the same in order to give "the man" the middle finger.

i did over a TB of data last year on my iphone...when i move to an LTE area in january I'll test the waters again...

i use itubelist and create a playlist of long hd videos and leave it on continuous and it just moves onto the next video as i sleep the night away

I live Downtown, Miami Fl.

I'm on the grandfathered unlimited plan and have just reached 5GB, 16 days into my billing cycle.

They have now throttled me to .46 Mbps up and down with no SMS or email notifications.

Right now it is a little to early to know if it completely cripples the phone and my usage.

I will report back a little later tonight as I use it a little more while being throttled.

I do notice the latency is still great. Unlike when I was throttled using the 4S.

Okay, some reality here. There is LIMITED bandwidth and frequency. Simple physics. Therefore, the carriers have to place some limits. Like you, I agree the unlimited should be unlimited.

BUT, and a big BUT - people like you pulling down 76gb a month crush the system. I am surprised they just don't ask you to take your business elsewhere.

thank god the carriers throttle people like you...clogging up the network.

Your limited bandwidth theory doesnt hold water. LTE has more than enough bandwidth and the costs are far less to the carrier than with 3g. Also they have LTE advanced coming that is even more bandwidth.

This is not about a spectrum crunch, its about business market positioning. In a year or two you wont have a voice or text plan, and if you have unlimited for $30. then those big $150.+ bills they are used to collecting will go away.

Its just like when minutes used to be expensive, then when they dropped they moved to texts, now that those are all going away they have to quickly raise your data rates.... and do it so you think its necessary, its called price gouging.

Problem / Reaction / Solution

Problem = our cash cows are going away (text, minutes)

Reaction = tell everyone there is a spectrum crunch even though we just built a brand new super highway for spectrum LTE

Solution = higher data rates, whew emergency averted...

They can still get that second Aston martin they wanted. Oh I meant third

I have ATT unlimited plan, and I've used 4.3 gigabytes since I got the 5 on launch day. I just chatted with an ATT rep about my high usage, and he said that any time your wifi signal deteriorates, the 5 will switch and use your LTE data so that your connection is not interrupted...this should be a much bigger issue. If I am on wifi, I want to use my wifi data (even if it is slower than cellular data). This needs to be fixed by AT&T and Apple, especially since it has been confirmed by AT&T and isn't speculative.

Hey Guys, What are your actual speeds when tested using a speed test like speedtest.net APP on AT&T LTE????
I'm also in Miami Dade, I Also live in North Miami Beach, Sunny Isles area and drive all around Maimi Dade for work. At Night I go to school in FIU's south campus as well. The reason I'm saying all of this is because I've driven all over town testing my iPhone 5's LTE speed while connected to the "LTE" network but also have been unable to get network "LTE like" speed readings using the speedtest.net APP using a bunch of diffrent servers to test off of. The readings are usually around 3 to 5 MBs down and 2 to 4 MB up. Fastest I've gotten is 8 up and 8 down. What speeds did you get after they swapped out your phone and you started connecting to LTE bc you seemed happy about a considerable change I imagine and I just want to make sure I'm not getting short changed. I have grandfathered unlimited which simce i got iphone 5 has switched to 4G LTE unlimited and have called on 2 occasion to confirm although I saw it online as well when I logged on. PLEASE HELP AS MY 30 window to return phone is up soon bc I confirmed with AT&T they start counting from day you order phone online, (which I did September 14). Want to get this handled before I'm in more of a bind and they have the upper hand cuz I'm locked in with them with no recourse. Thanks any help , and/or speed test results on AT&T OR any other carrier for comparisons sake would be greatly appreciated ESPECIALLY AT&T.
PS I'm not being throttled as I just checked and I've only used 350MB of data in the 5 days I've had iPhone 5.

I'm in Palm Beach County most of the time and usually pull around 12 down. Spend some time out in Sunrise a lot and don't get anywhere bear those speeds on LtE. Seems S Florida is really spotty right now think they just lit up there LtE network down here a few months ago.

I'm on ATT btw

St. Louis. Nice to finally have a top notch service in my area. Can anyone beat this?

Sacramento, CA

I have gotten up to 59 Mbps. Loving the speed. :)
