this actually has been going on for a while (~2 weeks) - especially AT&T > VZ calls. AT&T <> AT&T and AT&T <> land line haven't been a problem.

Restarting my phone twice did not help here in San Francisco. Removing the SIM and replacing it worked though.

I am not failing to recognize anything, I know it’s very complex system, but this isn’t something new they’ve just started doing. They should have proper redundancies in place to prevent something like this. Upgrade and replace older infrastructure technology. Companies like this have become far too relaxed. They have billions of dollars in the bank that they sit on, service interruptions on a country wide scale is unacceptable. Period.

Edit: people lives could be on the line here. Can’t call 911 because of a failed network. People is supposed to accept “it’s a complicated infrastructure”?

If all the planes in the country crashed and someone said well it’s “complex flight systems” Would that be acceptable? No because there are so many warning systems and redundancies in place to prevent it.

Like I said, this didn’t happen to a town or a city, this happened to the entire country. No excuse.

Good thing your not overly dramatic or anything.

Damn it, Att. I was waiting for important calls. I’m sure they will call me back, but still....important calls are important calls.

AT&T appears to be experiencing some kind of outage, and many AT&T customers across the United States are unable to make and answer phone calls.

There are numerous reports of issues on Twitter, and MacRumors has also been unable to place calls on an iPhone associated with AT&T. The problem appears to have begun at least 30 minutes ago.

Customers affected by the problem who attempt to make a phone call are seeing the calls they place immediately disconnected. Incoming phone calls go directly to voicemail, and customers are not able to answer them.

Many users have been able to fix the phone call problem by restarting their iPhones, so affected customers should try that right away to attempt to resolve it.

If a restart doesn't work, customers who need to place calls to friends and family members can still use FaceTime or FaceTime Audio. iMessages and text messages are also working at the current time.

Update: AT&T has confirmed that a restart fixes the issue, and is asking customers who are experiencing call problems to restart their iPhones. The company says multiple restarts may be required.

[doublepost=1510811122][/doublepost]iphone would not except or place calls. Eventually disabled WiFi and phone would except and would place calls. Expect another monthly Apple update?

FWIW, I live in Sunnyvale about a half mile from Apple Park. AT&T cellular sucks in the area, thus I primarily use Wi-Fi calling at home. Even my Watch Series 3 didn’t receive any calls or notifications of cell calls.

I wasn’t able to make any calls on my iPhone X, but my wife SE worked fine.

I was finally able to make calls after the 4th restart over approximately 2-3 hr.

I’m calling customer service right now to find out what’s going on.

yeah, an agent is waiting for your call with a detailed description of what's going on.

This looks like a cyber attack.

No it doesn't. If you look at the reports at&t is really the only carrier affected. 7000 reports. The next highest was Sprint with just over 100. If Sprint only has 100 people reporting outages at a given time, they're doing pretty good.

Now, why would a restart fix the issue? Is the SIM card caching some IP address garnered from DNS and now that they've failed over, a restart is required to fetch the new IP?

I was wondering why the hell I couldn't make a phonecall around 4:30 p.m. I thought it was something wrong with my phone (had no idea about the AT&T issue) so I did a soft reboot anyway, and it worked fine after that.

It was affecting Android phones, as well.
