And I just found my original discs from 1999. They still run on Win 10 x64. Special thanks to the MS Engineers who stayed late to make that happen! :)
Considering a lot of the code behind Windows 10 has been around since the late 90's, their work on archaic software emulation was probably to be sure their OS would actually boot. But yeah, my AOE Gold Edition disk still installs and boots, so I guess there is a plus side to having all that legacy content hanging around in there.

Sim Tower was sooooo fun!!
I loved it too.

It is a shame that we may never see it for the iOS, tvOS, or Mac. It seems like developers have little incentive to make good games anymore. Most games now are like bubblegum, the lose their flavor so quickly, or they have IAP that make playing the game tedious without purchasing in game currencies.

There are a few good games that are a flat price, but too many now are structured with IAPs.

Aww yeah, finally something good to distract myself with during family togetherness this Christmas :)

SimTower for iOS would be epic.

Too bad EA would destroy it just like they did when brought SimCity to iOS.

I always liked a lot of the older games. I was always hoping for a recent port of Sim Tower for the Mac and iOS.

That game was so addicting. I know there is a Sim Tower knock off on the app store, but it is ruined with the IAP.

Wait, holy crap, it exists. The original makers of Sim Tower re-released it as 'The Tower'.

The listing and screenshots are in Japanese, but it's all in English when I downloaded it.

This is not the one I was talking about, I think the one I was referring to is called Tiny Tower. It is fun at first, but quickly starts to suck when you have to wait for currency.

The one you posted looks a lot like Sim Tower. I will check it out when I get off work.

I remember getting Chris Sawyer's previous game on a floppy disc in 1994, Transport Tycoon. Played that on my 486 DX2-50 with 4MB of RAM back in...'94. Roller Coaster tycoon was... similar, but something about setting up trade routes seemed so much more like an accomplishment to me. Very happy when this came to iPad a few years ago.

Oh, I don't know. At least in the PC space, I haven't had any trouble finding good games made in the past three-or-so years that are plenty entertaining for a flat price. But that includes a lot of indie games that don't get much press.

This is probably true, as I know very little when it comes to modern PC/console games. Maybe I didn't mention it, but I was referring to iOS games.

Actually, I am not much of a gamer, so I wouldn't really know much about games outside of the app store.

I pretty much only play old games on old consoles. On occasion, I might play some of the classic games mentioned in this thread on emulators.

I play WoW, but have taken a year off, and am not sure if I will ever go back.

I am hoping that the success of the NES Classic Edition will bring retro gaming to the mainstream. It would be awesome if Nintendo would bring a virtual console app to the tvOS. Probably won't happen, but one can dream.

How come no one has asked for cheat codes yet?! Come on, we all love this game but occasionally we just wanna spend hours building insane roller coasters just to find out no one wants to ride them because they'll vomit non-stop :p

Do you remember... THEME HOSPITAL ? OMGOMGOMGOMG!!!!

That game was the best of the best! I replayed it a couple of years ago on my Mac. Still runs great (except for the multiplayer off course). It's too bad that Bullfrog went out of business.

This is a merging of SimTower and Yoot Tower, its sequel. Not sure if it's what you're after. It's got support for English and Japanese.

ザ・タワー The Tower® for iPhone by OPeNBooK Co., Ltd.

Yoot Tower was superb. It took SimTower and expanded it with more of everything. I played that game so much on my family's PowerMac 6500.

A game called Project Highrise recently came out is supposed to be a modern take on SimTower, but I have yet to try it.

Wow. I used to love this game! Definitely going to buy it! The young kids may not like this because of the graphics but this is exactly how it look back in '99.

My nephews think Minecraft is the greatest thing ever. Apparently graphics are overrated by these whipper snappers.

I remember the trick was finding all the visitors who were unhappy, picking them up, and dropping them in the lake to die. That was the best way to get your happiness rating up quickly.

#MAGA :D (Sorry, had to)

How is this different from Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 (from Frontier Development) that has been available on the app store for a few years?

UI wise it's totally different ofcourse. Are you referring to gameplay wise?
I really love RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 by Frontier Developments and it was so cheap and no in-app purchases.

I haven't bought the classic version from Atari just yet but also not sure if I will though.

Well, I've tried it out and it's certainly the RCT of my younger days, complete with pixelated graphics and all the original scenarios. The controls are okay; laying paths and building rides is a bit more tedious than with the original game.

I also checked out RCT 3 on the App Store. That's apparently made by Chris Sawyer and has a revamped interface specifically for iOS and updated graphics. I guess the nostalgic part of me likes "Classic", but the gamer part of me prefers RCT 3.

I agree with you. I love to play RCT3 because of the UI (and it was also cheap as well without in-app purchases).

Some people, like myself, really like classic games.

Me as well. I also looked for Warcraft 2 and Command & Conquer like games on the App Store without in-app purchases. I did found a few C&C clones (Z Steel Soldier, Machines at War 3 RTS, Warfare Incorporated) but not really a great Warcraft 2 like game though.

I want some more Amiga classics. What about Rick Dangerous? :) Someone please!? :)

That was really an awesome game. I couldn't find an actual copy on iOS of that though I also loved Alex the Kid in a Miracle world that was pre-installed on my Sega MasterSystem which is actually created by someone though on iOS. I also just found a great Pang alternative and Double Dragon as well.

It would maybe be cool to have separate iOS forum topic about these classic games now coming back on iOS.

This is excellent! I played it until 5am last night just testing it to see what's new and such. I really love how solid it all feels, it's a great port! And the first iOS game I've really been into (which is funny considering it's a port - heh).

Now I'm just trying to find out if I can build a huge, borderless park on RCT2 on my PC and transfer it to the iOS version. I never cared for the campaigns as a teen. Just want a sandbox to build a gigantic park with rides that overlap one another.

Well this is pretty awesome! I built a scenario in my PC version that has a full map, all land owned, a few hills here and there... and then transferred it to my iPad. It loaded it up just fine - I was worried there would be some memory limit preventing huge landmasses from working but there you go! I've uploaded it here if anyone just wants a sandbox to play with https://www.dropbox.com/s/emruyz68qcd4qbo/Bison Town Yo.SC6?dl=0

Games like this need upgraded graphics or its a non starter.
Hmm, it's in the charts and most of my iOS game-using friends are playing it. It's the first iOS game I've ever sunk more than 15 minutes into. I guess many like it the way it is?

I beeeelieve Square Enix owns that now, what with Core and Eidos acquisitions. Loved that game as a kid! I've got a really burned in memory of a time I got further than I ever had one morning before school and I was trying to convince my parents to let me keep the Amiga on until I got back home :D they did but I died moments later. In game... not IRL.

I am desperate!!

I love this game- the app worked very well for the first few hours, but just as I was about to reach the goal for my first map, the app crashed.
I can't re-open it, I tried to delete and re-download the app, and updated my iOS. Nothing has worked.

Had anyone else had this issue? I can't open the app at all!

Just purchased it, played it for 20 minutes and the game crashed. Tried to reopen it and now it just immediately closes. Can't play it anymore....
