You know, I bought icab a while ago and it didn't sway me from atomic...I read this thread and decided to try it again...it now beats atomic for me. The main reason is that I frequent many photography forums and atomic can't load all the images in image intensive threads..icab is smoother..but it is a touch slower...

I also don't see an option to set full screen as default.

Regardless for others who have given icab a chance before, but not recently, maybe worth a chance.

I'll update this should I find any problems with a changeover..thanks for the info mr peoples, glad I gave it another chance.

Edit.

A few big missing things..maybe I don't see them

1) full screen tab bar > icab double step popover. Icab should add tab bar in full screen.
2) customization of full screen controls. URL at the top is ok, but I wish back/forward could be customized to the bottom, and I really miss the quick jump to page top and bottom of atomic.

These could be rings I just need to adapt to, but having more full screen options certainly would be nice.

Go to the iCab website, send him an email, I got a reply after reporting a bug in last version which he fixed.

I emailed the dev about toolbar customization - he responded within 12 hours (icab)

very responsive... things are planned and he's implementing changes for future updates.

I have both and prefer the atom. I have been going back and forth, but I decided atomic simple reason: I like the full-screen icons and navigation toolbar and the ability to set the transparency iCab "corner" measurement. I also prefer the toolbar in full screen on the bottom of the screen and the ability to customize what is actually a toolbar in full screen.

Does Atomic have a "download" manager"? I was reading an article comparing browsers and it said that iCab has a download manager where you can download things into a "downloads" folder and transfer it over to your computer. Does atomic have this feature? One of the most annoying things for me is when i download documents or pictures or what have you and then you cant control if you want to pause it, where it saves, renaming it, etc.

Anyone try Skyfire and how does it compare to these 2? Could use the flash for things like megavideo, justin.tv for sports games, etc.

I bought both. Hate atomic's ugly interface. Icab crashed hard on pages with lots of photos and doesn't have google search suggestions (that I can find).

Back to Safari.

I have both and I prefer Atomic. I have been going back and forth but I chose Atomic for a very simple reason: I like the full screen navi and toolbar icons and the ability to set their transparency over the "corner" type icons in iCab. I also prefer to have my toolbar in full screen at the bottom of the screen and the ability to customize what actually is in the full screen toolbar.

I found icab to be faster than atomic. My biggest downside with icab is that it doesn't let u set a password.

Yes it does.

GUEST MODE
iCab Mobile itself can be password protected. When password protection is on, you can enable a guest mode with limited privileges which is available without a password. The guest mode can have its own subset of bookmarks and search engines.

Do either of these browsers have a way to share an item to your Google Reader account?

Wirelessly posted (iPhone: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8G4 Safari/6533.18.5)

I just wish one of these browsers would access and sync with my Safari bookmarks or at least just sync with the same app installed on my iPhone. That's the only thing keeping me from switching from Safari.

I really like Atomic with features like Adblock and Dropbox integration. It also has lots of tunables. I did a YouTube demo of Atomic a couple of weeks ago for anyone that needs to see more details of what it offers.

So far my main gripe is no bookmark sync or a way to sort bookmarks.

The Google Reader share is a javascript which is added as a bookmarklet in Atomic. I just tested it and it works fine. The howto is on my blog if you need help.

Atomic does not have any sync for bookmarks. I wish it would support Xmarks.

aaarrrghhh...
Well, I may be too rigid, but some of the reasons I still prefer to browse the web with my MBA is that (1) I have all my bookmarks neatly organized (2) I can use lastPass for passwords (3) it's easier to copy-paste text to Simplenote or Evernote for instance...

Bookmarks still a problem

Both AWB and iCab still require workarounds to import bookmarks. Not sure why both don't link to Xmarks, it would automate the process and make them much more appealing. It is the only reason that I still use Safari on my iPad.

Last pass has decent work arounds for autofill and autologin with any browser. So long as you aren't trying to save to it. Just a fwiw in case you didn't realize what the advanced bookmarklets do.

Icab can go straight to evernote with a tap..well two taps.

Yes it does -privacy/access in the program settings.

Like to say atomic has been my best app purchase yet. I can never go back to aafari, even of it may be faster

Is it possible to import the book marks from Safari on an iPhone to iCab? Either directly or indirectly?

Thanks!
