With the just released notice that AT&T is going to extend their 30 day return policy for new 3GS buyers so they can get a full return against the I-4, and early updates for lots of the rest of us, I am really starting to wonder why. There must be something big just around the corner for AT&T to be trying this hard to rope in as many customers as they can into a 2 year contract...

hmm by this you suggest?? change in carrier.. or something else.. Hard to tell. I would not chnage from att... Verizon is horrible:confused:

Change* Excuse the spelling mistake

oh lawdy..... now "I" need clarification, too!

my upgrade says:

As a valued AT&T customer, you may be eligible for an upgrade on this line, with reduced equipment pricing when signing a 2-year contract. Click 'Upgrade Eligibility' to view your upgrade options.

so i know that means the 399/499.... fine

but checking hubby's it says:

As a valued AT&T customer, you may be eligible for a standard upgrade on this line, with reduced equipment pricing when signing a 2-year commitment. Click 'Upgrade Eligibility' to view your upgrade options.

so does that mean the 199/299 upgrade fo his phone?

thanx!

now there is a interesting one.

I assume standard is the 199/299 and the other is the higher price. Is this a Family Plan I assume? His is the primary line correct and yours the second. Thats wierd anyone know about that?

sorry... yes... family plan and his is the "main" phone and mine is the add-on phone...

I got a iPhone 3G on launch day, starting AT&T service for the first time.

I got the 450 minute plan, unlimited data, unlimited text. My bill is about $101 a month after fees. It shifts a few pennies every month.

I got a 3GS on launch day, had to pay $500 for a 32 gig. I sold my 3G for $200 (I freaking gave it away had no idea how much it was worth no contract)

I did the text message upgrade check

"As a valued customer, we can offer you an upgrade with a new 2-yr commitment and an $18 upgrade fee"

When I checked last month it said I was not up for an upgrade till november or decmenber of 2010 if I remember correctly.

So then your pricing is correct. Only the main account holder gets the cheaper upgrade

Well, in most cases, yes.

The breakdown is that the primary account holder gets to shoulder the cost of the voice plan + the fees for each additional line + their own data + text (single and family plans).

The only thing that the subsequent lines get is their associated data plan and any additional services. Most people probably only have data and text on their line, so that comes in at about 45-50 (more/less w/wo fan), but if you are a big spender and have additional services like ATT nav, international data, etc, you can easily spend over 100 on a line without voice and then, after three months, you'd fall under ATT's ">$99 upgrade eligible" bracket.

Neither says anything regarding a higher price. Both are fully subsidized upgrade prices.

Don't do it from the website, I think the responses are too cryptic.

dial *NEW# and report back what each says. If it gives you any sort of date for when you'll be eligible, that means that for now you'll have to pay $399/$499 and then @ the stated date, you'll be eligible for a full subsidy ($199/299). If there's no mention of a date, you should be eligible for full subsidy now.

I still would like to know how (2) 3GS phones purchased on launch day don't quallify for the 199 dollar upgrade. Only the main account number does. The other kine is not eligible until 1/28/11. We have the family 550 plan with (2) 3GS phones, unlimited data on both and unlimited family text. That comes out to roughly 145 dollars a month. I know it's doubtful, but maybe att will slide the second line in like they did for those who purchased the 3G a couple of weeks out side the 30 day grace period when the 3GS launched.

Please read the upgrade guide. This is addressed in the bottom half.

I got this...that means 599/699 right? Not happy at all.

Thats some bad luck. I mean Facetime is supossed to be for families and people who both have the Iphone 4 and now you will have different ones...

Thanks for the input.

Even though my second line does qualify for the early ugrade at a higher price option, I can't see spending 400 dollars on a 200 dollar phone. Maybe after I upgrade my wife's, and see how well it workks, I'll sell her 3GS and use the proceeds to subsidise buying the 4.

Don't get me wrong I see where you aree coming from. But if you think about it you are spending $400 on a $600 or $700 phone.

Not true for me. I had the 3G for only a few months and got the 3GS at launch for the early upgrade price. My upgrade date was 11/20/10 last week. On Sunday it was changed to a full upgrade now! I'll get the iPhone 4 for the 199/299 price. :) I have the standard rate plan 40+30+5(text).

Same situtaion for me. Had Original iPhone, 3G and 3GS at launch, my upgrade date was 11/20/10 and is now full upgrade.

that is a new one haha. So I assume you willupgrade one then wait on the other no point paying 400 for the second when you can't wait till july right?

nvm omit that! read it wrong

it does make sense.. pay higher sign a new contract. new though att is going crazy haha

I'm going to upgrade the main line and wait till July. Just did the *NEW# thing and it says that I can get a discounted iPhone upgrade at a higher price immediately (399 I bet) but I MAY qualify for a full discount on 07/03/2010. Still makes no sense. I've never seen this MAY thing before - new policy coming?

Can someone explain how this is possible? What is your total monthly bill? You also have the 39.99 voice, 30 data, and 5 text?
