I hope you're right.
Im getting the same exact message as Dojoman above.
Sucks :(
Did we hear anything about AT&T on this topic?

Well we'll find out on Tuesday. Hopefully we can preorder for 399/499. I still won't mind paying 599/699 if I can sell my 3GS for $300.

Although it'll bother me paying full retail, I think I would still go ahead and buy the iPhone 4 assuming I can get 400+ on my unlocked/jailbroken 3GS. At least I won't be under contract after a year and can either upgrade next year or sell the phone, and move to a different carrier if ATT loses exclusivity.

oh lawdy..... now "I" need clarification, too!

my upgrade says:

so i know that means the 399/499.... fine

but checking hubby's it says:

so does that mean the 199/299 upgrade fo his phone?

thanx!

Your pricing will be $399/499 and your husband's will be $199/$299

Not true based on those messages. The early upgrade message specifically states:

A full discount on a standard handset or iPhone upgrade is not available at this time but you may qualify on XX/XX/XXXX. We can offer you a discounted iPhone upgrade at a higher price with a 2-yr commitment and an $18 upgrade fee. Please visit a participating iPhone sales location for pricing on this offer.

Neither says anything regarding a higher price. Both are fully subsidized upgrade prices.

Dude you're spreading some false information...

Not true based on those messages. The early upgrade message specifically states:

If you think it isn't true, what is the alternative? I'm pretty confused at this point. Way I see it now, line 1 for me is 199/299, line 2 currently is 399/499 but I MAY qualify for 199/299 on July 03.

I'm eligible for an early upgrade, but can I buy my phone at Apple, or do I have to go to AT&T?

Either place is fine. I personally recommend Apple.com since they will deliver on the day of the 24th for free. No lines, no hassle. I just go to work and it'll be there before lunch time :D

When did you get your 3GS? Last year when it was launched? It's weird because, I've upgrading my iPhone every generation within last three years. From 2G/3G/3GS...when I upgraded from 3G to 3GS I paid $399, that was 1 yr after 3G came out, so now why we have to pay no commitment price?

Thank you! I was just confused on all these upgrade policies. I live close to an Apple store so I'm gonna deal with all the hassle staying in line, lol.

I failed to look at yours as closely as I should. Please do as the directions mention on the website. You need to click the "Upgrade Eligibility" button to see what the current prices are for the 3Gs models. The iPhone 4 should be the same on the 15th.

If you could do this and report back it would be helpful.

I am still awaiting a response from my AT&T agent that I spoke with on Tuesday. Yesterday I got this txt message from my agent, "Manager researching early upgrade option for iPhone 4 as to acceleration policy. When answered I will followup with you."

Once I get that response I will post the answer for all of you. But from what it sounds like with the document I found on AT&T's website http://www.att.com/Common/about_us/files/iphone/pricing_fact_sheet_ip4.pdf, look under "Early Upgrade for existing iPhone users", anyone who is currently an iPhone user and is not eligible at this time for a full upgrade will be able to enjoy the iPhone for $200 more than a fully subsidized iPhone 4 and $200 less than full price.

I thought that was my impression, did the same when I upgraded from 3G to 3GS with $200 extra and why it should be different now. Thx for heads up.

I get this message from at&t's online account and I am eligible for the cheapest pricing on the 3GS right now:
As a valued AT&T customer, this line qualifies for discounted equipment pricing when you sign a new 2-year commitment.

If i have a blackberry and im eligible for an upgrade in 2010 does that mean i can get the iphone 4 for the 199 299 price??

I was told in a corp ATT store that as long as you have had your current iPhone for at least 6 months, you will automatically get the early upgrade price if you do not qualify for lower pricing.

This seems to be true, but we don't have anything in writing from AT&T to back it up yet. At least not in those terms.

I've decided this is what I'm going to do if Best Buy doesn't take pre-orders.

Yeah I hope so. AT&T's methods to decide this are all over the place, it seems.

I believe according to AT&Ts press release this should be the case... But many of us (including me) still get the "You may select equipment at our full retail pricing" message when we do the *NEW# text. I've had my 3GS since launch (early upgraded from 3G) so I SHOULD be receiving the "early upgrade" text but I don't. This whole thing is messed up.

It makes sense for them to do it though.
Anyone that had a 3GS for 6 months+ can cancell their plan for $150-$120 depending how many months they got left and still get the new iphone 4 for $199.
Yes they will lose their number unless they transfer it to a family account and the unlimited data plan but they will also pay less than the early upgrade price and nowhere near the $600 or $700 full price.

If you haven't already asked an ATT representative stop pussyfooting around and do so already. I knew I was eligble for full upgrade but I wanted to 100% confirm before I start selling my iPhone so I walked into a store and walked out with the answers I need. Don't bother with ATT's cryptic messages.
