I'm in that same order range (EXTP889981XXXX). Did you order a Black 32GB? That's what I ordered, and they seem to be running several days behind pretty much every other model. They clearly got in a large shipment of 64GB's yesterday or the day before, because those are now being shipped out (or at least off backorder) for people that ordered within the last week. The only Black 32GB orders I've seen with any movement over the past couple of days (or even really since launch day) seem to be people that ordered early on the 14th.

I ordered over the phone at 12:06 pm EDT on the 14th, accepted T&C's at 12:08 pm, but didn't receive my email confirmation until 7:03 am on the 15th. My order status page has an order date of 9/15.

It does seem like AT&T should be due to receive a large shipment of Black 32GB phones soon, so hopefully that will at least get a lot of us off of backorder. For your own sanity, you're better off not calling CS to check on the status of your order, because they basically can only see the same information that's on the order status page and they've obviously been instructed to give you the worst-case scenario delivery date. I doubt you or I will have our phones by this weekend at this point, but I would expect that we should have them no later than this time next week. (Not that that makes you feel any better).

I did order a Black 32GB. I think it is the most popular model, which could explain why we are not getting any love. It kinda irks me that Apple is launching the iPhone 5 in a bunch of other markets when demand here has not even been close to met. I really hope you are right and the next big shipment that AT&T gets is the black 32GB.

I would be happy if i got mine next week; i all ready have the accessories i need lol. There is no way we will be getting ours before the weekend unless it ships out before 5pm PST & next day air. The benefit of ordering through AT&T, is that they seem to be shipping most orders state side. But there is no chance of Saturday delivery.

I'm just really nervous that my phone would be one of the defective ones. I miss Steve Jobs so much. Tim seems like a good guy, but Jobs' made sure everything was up to par.
 
Placed my order for 64GB-Blck at 5am EST 9/14 through AT&T Premier.
-AT&T went ahead and cancelled my order without notifying me, due to some social security number mixup.
--After repeated calls, many wasted minutes, replaced my order, got sent to the back of the queue as a 9/18 order. Estimated shipping date: 14-21 days. According to CSR: "Between Oct 8-17th"
---Am now in "Pending Shipment as an EXPT8899. 0 Backorder, 0 Shipped. What does that mean?

What it means is that my iPhone is SHIPPED, arriving tomorrow 9/28 via FedEx.

And they're releasing the iPhone 5 to 22 more countries tomorrow. With all of us on back order??? WTF!! :mad:

Great, so now there will be that many more people who ordered their phone after I did that will get it before I get mine.

Ordered 9/13 over the phone because of a special FAN business account. They said they were taking preorders over the phone and would input them in system starting 3 AM CST on 9/14.
Not really sure what it was.
Order was processed 9/14
Received email 9/15
Order status always said 9/14 order placed.

They told me I would have it on Launch.
But of course that didn't happened.

2 32GB Blacks
1 32GB White

Went of BO last night, 9/26
Tracking Sent today. 9/27
Order will arrive tomorrow 9/28
 
You have to consider there are 6 different models of phones. If you follow the posts you would see 64's had a crap load of orders off BO yesterday 32's today... I see a scatter of 16's....

White is sold less than black aswell.
Also some of these ppl on BO so long.... they ordered but their order wasn't processed until days later. You really need to go by the date on the status page, not the date you placed the order. Premiere people seem to have delays in their orders.

Thank you for writing that. I hope my 32gb black iPhone ships soon. I would had gone for white but thought white would take slower to make. Hindsight sucks. Lol. Note to self get a 64gb in the future.

Trust me if I could I would drive to local AT&T or apple store. Unfortunately I can not do the because right now I am very far away from one.
 
The stress of waiting over unfulfilled promises on an online order are not worth it.

Next time, I'm buying brick & mortar, like this lady.
 
just an fyi... I was in the AT&T store later yesterday to get my phone activated (was switching around numbers) and the clerk mentioned that 32 black was their biggest problem right now - demand is way higher than their inventory.

That's it, if I get to the Apple Store on Saturday Morning and I can get a 32GB model, I'm switching to Verizon. AT&T has pissed me off way to much on this.

1. Ordered in-store and sales rep entered the wrong address on the order and said it can't be changed until it ships.
2. AT&T has sold phones at stores to walk-ins while Verizon did not and has held all inventory for preorders.
3. They won't add an upgrade to my account so that I can get an iPhone 5 from the Apple store if they get one in faster than the pre-order. Otherwise, I'd have to cancel the preorder and take my chances.

If my phone hasn't come off back order by Saturday morning, I'm making the switch!

honestly, I would have taken either color. I don't care. they both look sharp, and both have pros and cons. perhaps next time they will offer "first available" as a color choice haha
 
Lesson learned

Here's my take and learnings from following this discussion while waiting for my phone.

Order from Apple because:
  • They own the inventory.
  • Better logistics for the massive orders.
  • ? Better customer service for inquiries and problems ? (I didn't follow Apple thread though)
  • No 2 year commitment when upgrading?
  • You can get Applecare+ with the order, eliminating a separate trip to Apple Store.

Order from AT&T when:
  • Negotiating early upgrade
  • Complicating issues like deposit requirements (for newer accounts).

If you order from AT&T:
  • Make sure you get and quickly process the Terms and Conditions - that determines your order date
  • Make sure your account is clean - pay up, check Autopay, call billing to make sure there is no hold.
  • Call your CC company and clear it in advance - there is minimal communication from AT&T if there's a problem.
  • If you order from store - you need to cancel from Store - that may have advantages and disadvantages. If store has inventory - it could be a help.
  • Keep the order simple - you can port and exchange numbers easily by phone, chat or store after you get the phone, but don't activate until you call (or you'll need a new SIM card).
 
Id rather be sitting back in Baghdad during a rocket attack again then waiting for this backorder shyt. Seriously.

No Problem. Been watching this thread since release. I think it's about how fast those poor asians can pump out the product, and get it shipped. The next big shipment will be the 16's and it seems ppl who placed order on 17th (except me!) got off BO last night this morning.... If I'm wrong oh well but I think we are gonna get more 16's with omg my order is shipped in the next 24h
 
Apple is launching the iPhone 5 in 22 new countries and on a number of regional carriers in the U.S., one week after it went on sale in the U.S. and a number of the larger international markets.

Great. Now it's gonna be even longer.
