i'm on an mvno and I hope att wifi calling will trickle down to the mvno's.

and i really hope it's true wifi calling not some gimped service that only works in the home area.

I want to be able to travel overseas and as long as i'm on wifi I want to make calls no problem.

Knowing AT&T I wouldn't hold my breath on the 2nd part about free overseas calling to the US. :D Does Tmobile wifi calling work on their mvno's like simple mobile and others? I doubt AT&T would make it available to 3rd party mvno's.

Does your Costco have free wifi? The only place I don't get reception is one specific target for some reason. I've noticed most holdovers stores don't have wifi either though. Our cosctos definitely don't.

There's WiFi in Costco, just not for customers. I see all kinds of people talking on their phones in our Costco, so it's certainly possible. I'm gonna ask one who their carrier is.

That's how it is at my local Target. Only place with absolutely no service from TMO as soon as you walk into the building. The wifi calling is a savior in places like this.

Off this same point... does anyone know if Sprint allows overseas use of their WiFi calling? I know it's on various different Android devices. Or do they force the GPS to turn on, to check location?

It's a plot for them to get you on their wifi! They want to see all of our traffic. We must fight this! /s

Sorry, I actually had the word "free" preceding wifi but I removed it thinking it was too redundant...

When my wife was on Verizon she had issues in our Costco (I say "our but there are like four within a reasonable distance, I don't remember which one, or if it was multiples).

The reason I asked this at all is because people are citing how useful wifi calling is on dead spots loke Costco and the grocery store. My point: it's inly as useful as the wifi network you have access to.

For the record, I am all for wifi calling on ATT. But I am of the opinion that it won't effect an excessively large number of people, which is why it likely isn't a priority. TMO has had it for a while, and for good reason.

Wi-Fi calling is no doubt a nice feature but AT&T doesn't need it quite as much as T-Mobile or Sprint. Verizon doesn't really need it at all except for those basements and hardened buildings where no cell signals get through. I'll welcome it when it arrives but it's not a big deal right now.

It is why I left T-Mo. Service was so spotty and get out on the road it was non-existant and WiFi will not help.

They are cheaper . . . . . but I got to have service all the time.

It actually would be a big deal on ATT if it works overseas as it does on Tmobile.

I have AT&T and I cannot use my phone at all inside a Costco warehouse, or most grocery stores.

But does your CostCo have free and fast enough wifi? BC if att had wifi calling and they don't have wifi for the public, it's a moot point no?

Most places that have free wifi typically suck and find myself not joining them in favor of my current cellular signal.

Att wifi calling can't come soon enough. I have 3 iPhones on my att account, brought my dad & brother over from verizon, and have a microcell 3g. We live in the mountains so without the microcell we have 0-1 bars. But we drop calls on it consistently, daily. Got 3 replacement microcells and problem still exists. I did get every microcell for free though.

I have no trouble with AT&T service anywhere but the house I am renting, so I managed to get a MicroCell for free as well, we will see how that goes because I work from home and on conference calls I drop the call so it is annoying but have a cordless phone on my cable triple play now just for conf calls, I hope the MC helps my situation.

What's so hard about enabling wifi calling anyways? Shouldn't they have done this years ago? Why did they even bother with that microcell concept? They should've just did wifi calling and been done with it! And doesn't wifi calling offload the congestion on their network? These things just seem so simple and the carriers take forever to implement things, if they had just done wifi calling, then they could've solved a lot of problems and be able to focus on more important things instead of having to waste resources on a half baked microcell idea.

I can't wait for this feature

Its 2015 and i know its too early but it sounds like ATT is in no rush to get wificalling, anyone hear otherwise?

I think end of 1Q - 3/31 would probably be best case?

We have gone to the mountains of NC for the past two years in the Fall. The first time, I found that we didn't have cell coverage and that was a big hassle for my one-man business. Last year, I brought along my mini-cell from the office to make my own network at the cottage... but they are location specific. It was a different kind of hassle, but it worked... finally.

Wifi calling will end the hassle and I will have phone service anywhere I have wifi. I can't wait.

is there any new news on this? otherwise it feels more and more like end of the year.

i wonder how it will work? with a carrier update?

I wrote a letter to AT&T about the wifi calling. Told them I had seen on Google + were Ralph de la Vega told CNET AT&T would be rolling out wifi calling in 2015.
They replied to my letter saying it would be after they investigate how wifi calling would affect the network.
I work offshore and really would like the wifi calling and update on my current phone with wifi calling.

They are in no rush to roll it out. Same as Verizon.

It is not a top priority for them, like T-Mobile and Sprint. They need it because their networks barely work indoors.

Target wants you to shop not talk and text on your cellphone.
if they wanted they could have WiFi, so its obvious they chose not to.

My local Target has Wifi. Of course, my AT&T phone also works perfectly inside.
