The default "Color LCD" profile is all washed out...get hold of some icc files from the folder and try them out...as for the screen, go to the apple store to get it replaced, you seem the only one with a problem of this entity around here...

Yeah... like I said, I created my own "normal" color profile using the built-in tool. This removed the overall yellow/washed out look of course. My whites now looked WHITE like they are supposed to... except for the bottom of the screen.

I think I'm the "only one" with this issue, there's 100's of posts about this on here.

So I went to the Genius Bar and exchanged my mbp. New LCD display is awesome, no yellowing or bleeding. At first the 'genius' said they would take it in to get the LCD fixed (he also thought the bleeding issue in the top right corner was due to dead pixels, not much of a genius IMHO). He talked to another genius who appeared to be more experienced with this type of thing and she said that since I just bought the mbp the day before that they could exchange it right there. I opened it up in the store and was amazed at the difference with this display. BTW it's a 9C81.

So if you are not happy with your display I suggest trying to exchange it rather than live with it. When you are paying almost $3000 for a computer you should expect top quality.

Ya i have a slight discoloration, i dont think they could see the extent of discoloration (Geniuses) because how litup the apple store was but i definetly notice it, they offered me a replacement but i said no and after thinking about it, i really just cant live with it so im going back to make another genius appointment lol.

The only thing that kept me from exchanging it right there was when they said "obviously they couldnt make sure that there are not any dead pixels with the new screen" and that kind of scared me off (they were really cool about it, i just didnt want to take a chance getting a dead pixel) but ya as i said i really cant stand this discoloration.

Cool. Great that you got a good one!

Lets see... where to start.

Ok I purchased the Penryn 15" MBP 2.5GHz, as listed in my sig last tuesday. Didn't have that much time to play with it due to work... but when my weekend rolled around, got to play with it and install software. Well... I noticed that the right side fan was buzzing pretty loudly, while the left side was silent. (Running at same RPMs) If the system was under heavy use, the fan buzz noise goes up in direct relation to how fast the fan spins. I decided to turn off the MBP and leave it off for the night, next day when I turned it on, right side fan buzz was still there and rather easy to notice even when the system was just booting up.

(However no yellow hue/tint on LCD)

Decided this morning to take it back to the Apple store to exchange. They turned it on to listen to the buzz sound and it checked out. So they gave me a new MBP... which I subsequently took home to give it a whirl.

To my dismay, when at home... fan noise still there AND yellow tint/hue on the bottom 1/3 of the screen. I rubbed my eyes a few times and kept looking. Then decided to take it to a pitch black room to look again. Still there, decided to calibrate the screen. After doing so, the yellow tint looked even more noticeable... ugh!

Time to go exchange yet again! This time though the manager helped me. He was very polite and I told him the issues and that I just had it exchanged earlier today too... lol. He took a look at it and said yeah he could see the yellow tint and excused himself to take the MBP to the back where the geniuses could take a look as well. Evidently since its a new release (update) of the MBP, I was one of the first customers to bring it back with problems and he wanted to show it to the geniuses.

Subsequently he brought out a new MBP to exchange and asked if I'd like to open it up in the store and take a look at it to make sure it did not have any issues. That was very nice of him to offer without me asking and I gladly took him up on it. Spent I think around 10 minutes inspecting the system out and it checked out perfect. No yellow hue/tint and the fan noise while still there, much more quiet. No where near as noticeable as the prior two had. Before leaving, I thanked him for his help.

Barring any problems, this one is a keeper! 3rd time was the charm. :D

Yeah, folks, if you get a bad screen and still within the 14-day period, simply take it back to the store for an exchange - so many people agonizing over this, lol. It's really quite simple. ;)

I just got a 15" Penryn MBP last week...
Had the bottom 1/4 screen slight "yellowish" problem. I took it back to the store a few days later and talked to the manager. He said he couldn't really see it himself (although I showed him some test patterns) but he didn't give me a hassle either, said it was no problem to do an exchange.

The 2nd MBP was much better... no yellow bottom and overall screen seems much brighter and sharper too. Now this is interesting... the first MBP I got had an LG screen... the 2nd (good) one is a Samsung - go figure.

i know what you mean, i have that same yellowish you did, the kind thats really hard to see right off the bat but is noticeable as youve used ur computer for 5-10 minutes, i went to the genius and i was offered an exchange but i didnt because when they said "obviously we cant guarentee the next MBP wont have a screen defect" and i took that as a kind of "if you have a dead pixel, your SOL" type of thing lol. As i was coming back home from the apple store i actually thought about it and realized i want an exchange, its just flat out annoying. Hopefully if my replacement has a dead pixel or something or more yellowing they will swap it out again.

Yeah, just go back and exchange it... the manager told me the same thing, that it's possible I could get another one with a bad screen too. That dosn't mean they wouldn't let you exchange the 2nd one. But chances are, your 2nd one will be ok, this problem dosn't seem to be as widespread as it was last year.

If it makes you feel more comfortable, when you're doing the exchange, open it up and check it out in the store with the manager or salesperson. And if you wanna double-check, look again when you go back out to your car, or someplace nearby.

Other than the screen issue on the 1st one, I'm VERY happy with this 2nd one! Best laptop I've ever owned! :D

Mine is clearly yellow on the bottom third of the screen a total bummer. It's the 09c82, considered the worst... yep it is. My keyboard isn't set right either it's freaking weird the left side is higher than the right and has a dip around the 'd' key, totally funky. Gonna take my BTO to the apple store and see what they can do.

Wow that sucks. Hopefully store can do something... otherwise have to ship it back.

The keyboard can probably be fixed, they could take it apart to readjust it is my bet, but the LCD screen... thats a lot more work.

Another 09C82 here and another less than white Penryn MBP.

While not overly yellow the difference in uniformity is evident even in this terrible photo I just took with the backlight low.

I called Apple and after a few basic hardware reset procedures they said they would ship a replacement. It was only delivered today directly from China, so it barely had time to collect dust. They were nice about it and didn't give me any hassle.

For a lot of consumers who have upgraded from some terrible LCDs with almost no consistent viewing angle they probably wouldn't notice, but if you pay attention to your display quality this starts to stick out after a few minutes. It doesn't help if you have a 24 inch LCD that has perfect uniformity sat next to a shades of grey MBP.

Oh, my 3rd and current Penryn MBP is 9c81... so LG screen. My first one was also 9c81.

The second one I forgot to check :(

Yeah, it's weird... the 1st Penryn MBP that I returned with yellowish screen was a 9c81 LG... But the 2nd one I got, which looks A LOT better overall is a 9c83, which is a Samsung I believe. Go figure, lol...

Ugh. All of this nonsense is discouraging. I though from the first few reports that the penryn revision fixed the yellowing problem. Apparently not. I'm on the fence about buying again... Most people posting here returned their units 2-3 times, too.

Those new MBP owners should feel REALLY lucky to not see the yellowish white at the bottom. I've got exchanged with threes MBPs in different stores in a less than a week, and all three units I have had so far show the "yellow" in white.

Besides, all the hard drives (I've had two different HDDs so far - Hitachi and Fujitsu), both make some rattling noise when put in idle.

I'm been tired of exchanging...so, I will keep the current one that is with Hitachi HDD (seems like it's a little more expensive than the Fujitsu one...lol)

So i ordered a 17 inch hi-res glossy MBP, and i am gonna be very mad if it gets here in 2 weeks with a yellow screen. If this does happen, can I return it to the store, or do i have to send it in since i bought it online?

Just a quick question to penryn MBP owners...didnt want to create another thread for this:

Does the new MBP ship with 10.5.2 installed?

Yes it does ship with 10.5.2 installed. :)

wolfattack:
Did you order a BTO? Or normal config? I'm pretty sure that a normal config can be returned to Apple retail store for an exchange. A BTO though, I am unsure.
