I'm having this problem and I can assure you that it cannot be wiped off with a wet cloth. The band is discoloring, which wouldn't be a problem if it cost 5 dollars at dollar general, but it comes from Apple. Currently on hold at AppleCare to see what they're stock of replacement bands at my local store is.

Yes exactly the same. However, the scuff marks are on the back of the band, at the point that the two pieces meet, so no big deal as they are not visible when wearing the watch.

I've got a SS with black sport band and have those marks only where the band tucks through the loop. Can't say they are grease. It's shine or scuff from friction. I agree with the quoted statement in that the marks can't be seen when the watch is worn.

I'm not a huge fan of this band. It's not the most comfortable for me. I'm going to get leather or maybe SS link or something else entirely eventually. But it's good for around the house and yard work.

Is the band on the Space Gray sport the same black as on the SS watches? Or is it a colored gray?

Geez, really? Hasn't anyone worn a watch before? Oh my, look I wore my watch and it looks like I used it. ;) I can't believe it doesn't stay looking like it did when I took it out of the box. :D
Yet my six month old daily wear black Moto 360 looks brand new.

I think Apple will fix it. I have no problem with the friction marks on the inside of the band, but the peeling has to be fixed. They will address it and fix the production problem (probably what they are doing now). My bet is that everyone who experiences the peeling will be mailed a new production one.

People say it's wear and tear get used to it but they're not realizing that's it's the 2nd day, not 1 month, 3 months, 6 months....but 2nd day, and this already?

My 10 year old Tissot Touch daily driver's band looks like the day I bought it. Black rubber btw, with a titanium clasp. The clasp looks worn, but the band is stiff, looks like new, and is in mint shape.

I've got what look like smooth marks on the inside of my SS black band. I do have somewhat oily skin though, so I'm not completely surprised. If it get's any worse, I won't be too happy, but if it's just bedding in, then I'm fine with it.

Yes, I am aware of that, and I won't be surprised if it happens. But to have a brand new device that is already like that after a couple hours is unacceptable.

Here's another forum thread that is on the same topic. Obviously, other people have the same issue. I'm not the only one.

"For that reason, Apple will be denying any return or replacement requests based on straps showing these signs of wear. Not surprisingly, that will include scratches and marks on the metal bands"

I would try washing the band. It turns out the human body, in cases of heat or activity, can excrete a watery-like substance from the skin. This substance contains water, oils, salt, and sometimes even dirt! In addition, when the 'water' evaporates (a complicated process by which the liquid turns into vapor - amazing!) it leaves the residue materials (salt, oils, etc.) behind, which can often appear white.

Moreover, you'll find that skin cremes, or especially insect repellant or sunscreen, leave markings behind on 'rubber' materials. These can stain and are often impossible to remove because they literally react with the band's materials.

Post pictures POST washing and/or let us know what other than water/skin was in contact with that band.

Mine will absolutely not wash off. It's like friction shined. Hard to show in pictures.

I have this band with my Withings Activite, and the band did this after some time. This is normal for this type of band.

I noticed this exact same thing last night when I took off my watch. Its only on the inside and on the part of the band that gets tucked inside. It's like the matte finish is being polished into shiny spots, I'm assuming from friction.

Right now it's not really an issue because all of the shiny spots are on the inside where they aren't visible. It is concerning that this is happening after only a few days of use. I kind of assumed everyone was likely having this issue but if it's only some of us, should those who have the problem contact Apple? If there is a chance my band is from a defective batch I'd rather have it replaced before it starts looking really rough.

I have several watches with black rubber straps that are at least a couple years old and used 2-3x/week in the water and look better that the 1-2 day old straps posted in this thread.

The people who are having issues... Has this peeling and wear resulted from "gentle" use?

If mine looks like that they are going to replace it. They are going to be nice about it, as usual. 1 day, in and out. Not a big deal.

But i'm betting it's just a bad batch of chemicals. It's not going to propagate into something horrendous. No way.

I don't think......:D

I've just had an online chat with Apple about my AppleCare not applying correctly and I mentioned the wear on my product and the reply I got (after waiting a few minutes) was that in this early stage of the product, it's unknown how it will react to the daily rigors. I may nip into the store on my way home and ask them - they've obviously had 2 weeks of band use.
