We live in South Jersey right near the Walt Whitman bridge. I get very satisfactory 3G and no complaints.

However went to the Voorhees area about 10 mile'ish from our area and experienced horrible 3G speed. If I lived in the Voorhees area I wouldn't be satisfied. I work in Philly and get very satisfactory 3G.

Hoping it's not a glitch in the area cause I'm a satisfied att customer. In my areas I'm in most get great 3G. But if it isn't a glitch and if I lived in Voorhees where I was I most likely might not be with att. Hurts me to even say this cause I'm a big att fan.

Interesting how about 10 miles can make a difference. The Voorhees/Cherry Hill area is heavily populated.

Hi again. I posted above in real time. I realized I was in an area that could hinder 3G performance. Now sitting in a restaurant 1/4 mile from the area I posted and getting great 3G speed.

checking back in. I just can't believe how much better ATT is in my work area now. Unfortunately there are still a few parts of NYC that have bottleneck issues, but upstate near the catskills is a thousand times better.

According to the ATT map by March 31st they will be close to Verizon or if not more in regards to 3G coverage.

I read it. Meaningless drivel.

I don't care what the report says... I care about my actual experience.
I have zero complaints regarding my AT&T service.
It's everywhere I need it to be and works reliably for me all the time.

I think I've dropped one call in the last several years.

The report has been known to be biased as the surveys are mainly from the NYC and SF areas where AT&T has problems.

Also, you don't see people complaining on how great their service is. There is a reason AT&T has 80M+ customers and growing....

This is directly due to them having had the iPhone exclusivity. I really can't imagine people switching to AT&T for a non-iPhone, can you? Now that they have lost their exclusivity to a much larger and better carrier, we're going to see AT&T's numbers & trends drastically change over the next 2 years.

Yes I can, AT&T was bigger than Verizon by 10M customers BEFORE the first iPhone came out. Surprising huh?

I've been noticing the same sort of thing in my area. I'm also seeing a lot more 3G where there used to be only EDGE.

Not only are those new 3G sites, HSDPA/HSUPA, but they are also HSPA+ flavoured.

All that needs to be done is that dam backhaul that is taking too dam long.
Key word of the day "permits".
Upgrading the radio equipment in an existing tower doesn't require a new permit from the city it's operating in.
Digging the trenches to run the new fiber to upgrade the backhaul requires not one, but at least 3 permits from each municipality they have to dig in.
Paperwork is what is making it take so dang long.

Hell, in SF, it take 2 years to get a permit. Yes, T-W-O Y-E-A-R-S!

I know that. See the CNET thread.

Unfortunately I live in the SF Bay Area where ATT is pretty spotty. Sometimes great and a lot of times pathetic. I hear that it can be challenging for ATT to get a tower up in tower unfriendly communities, but then people living in them complain about the service. Go figure. Either way - ATT needs to step it up regardless.
