It depends on what is telling you the resolution. The TV? The receiver? The ATV? I know it's easy to confuse what the device is outputting versus what the actual content is.
For example, one way to view the feed on my LG tells me that the streaming device connected to it is outputting. Meaning when the device is set to 4k the TV will always show a resolution of 2160p no matter the content being displayed. I have to go into another mean to see the bitrate of the actual stream itself.

Netflix is the kind of app that detects the device it's on and only shows an icon for what the device supports. ULTRAHD, HDR, Dolby Vision, etc. I do wonder if the apple tv is throwing off Netflix and netflix is showing the wrong logo for it's content. Due to the apple tv not auto switching and having to manually be set at a particular resolution and HDR level.

Being in the US I can't test out star trek on netflix. Does it seem as if it's really in HDR?
This is through the TV's built in Netflix app - the TV has an info button and that displays the current bandwidth and output resolution. When I watch a 4k show, it starts at 1080 and switches to 2160 after about 10 seconds. With Star Trek it stays at 1080 indefinitely

It seems as if this is netflixs first hdr show that is not 4k. Good to know.
Now the question is, is it really in hdr? It triggers the badge on the screen? But then the apple tv is always sending hdr so it wouldn't would it?
Does the show look like it's really in hdr?

Don't suppose anyone noticed Klingon subtitles on the non APT version? Not sure how you get the subtitles up on ATV.

Edit. yep. On the Apple TV version as well.

Subtitles are set via your Netflix online account section, you can change the font to various different options.

Found the Apple TV one, swipe down on the remote. Just thought it a nice touch having Klingon subtitles.

I have 40mb internet and my Apple TV is plugged in via ethernet, everything I've bought from iTunes that is 4K has streamed perfectly fine in 4K.

Star Trek is 1080P max and is HDR. There is nothing wrong with the ATV in this case.
With the built in app on my tv this show have the HDR badge but is not in the 4K category.
When I launch the episode my TV switch to HDR mode and the resolution never go above 1080P.

I think it's an interesting strategy.

You need to pay more to have Netflix 4K, and by introducing HDR in 1080p movie, it's an introduction to slightly better quality for the same money. Yeah, it's a pity it's not 4K HDR, but at least this HDR can be experienced by many.

i have atv4 and wanted to check with everyone, does star trek have a bar above and below the picture on atv4? Is there a setting to get full screen viewing in the atv or cbs app?

Thx

The OP is joking right. Take a hike. In the states we are forced to use the POS CBS All Access with ads or more without ads app to watch star trek and it is only in 540p in craptastic 128kK 2.0 stereo.
