Lmao. "Keyboard support" is nowhere near the complexity or integration issue you're trying to make it out to be.

Seriously. Stop.

Never said it was complex. I specifically said it was a simple task. Stop putting words in my mouth.

I said even the simplest tasks may not be possible out of time constraints, and some unexpected issues may arise from them. Something you clearly don't realize if you are not a software developer.

Stop putting words in my mouth.

Than start making some sense.

Omitting keyboard support was in no way an implementation issue they just "didn't get to".

It was a conscious decision in the early design phase of the project. The first thing you do when designing a new input method is consider the existing ones (your own and those of competing boxes), how it all interacts and what direction you want to go (and push things - which Apple has always loved).

The BT keyboard situation was likely at top of mind when the Siri remote was on the drawing board.

It was a conscious decision at the design phase of the project.

Unless you work at Apple or you can produce an official declaration to that regard, what I'm saying is we DON'T KNOW. I'm also saying that it being deliberate is the most probable explanation (although for what reason? difficult to guess). But we *don't know*, and as a software developer I'm saying I've seen MUCH worse in term of pushing back very simple feature to future releases, so this is POSSIBLE.

Sounds to me like you are IN the Subscription tab. Make sure to scroll UP so it shows the top tabs (sections). Here's a screenshot.

Very odd. It looks like in that screenshot you aren't signed in. Could you try signing in with your Youtube account and see if you still have those tabs up top? I'm signed in and don't see anything like that at all, and I've been fidgeting around with this menu for at least another 30minutes now.

Truly frustrating.

and as a software developer...

Would you stop trying to claim some sort of knowledge high ground?
There are tons of us around here in these industries.

Also please stop conflating "keyboard input" with so many other features that can get dropped out of necessity. (here I do absolutely agree with you)

The essence of what keyboard support is and represents absolutely means it was at the very beginning of talks about input and ultimately the Siri remote direction.

You could argue that the only actual innovation with ATV4 is the input method/remote, so it's foolish to not realize how central the keyboard/text situation would be to that discussion.

Oh sorry that's just a screenshot I found on Google to illustrate what I was saying. But what I want to point at is the very top "tabs". These tabs tend to disappear in many apps, and you have to move the cursor up to make it appear (and selectable) again.

If you keep pressing UP, and the top tabs are still not showing, I wonder if your TV have some kind of crazy overscan that makes it shows offscreen?

First, can you calm down? Not sure I understand why you get all riled up on such a trivial matter. Second, I'm in no way claiming high ground here, I'm just saying that if you have not worked in a software development business, it's normal that you might think that simple feature = free. Or "I think this feature is important so clearly they must have prioritized it". The reality of software engineering is much less obvious than that. And what I'm saying is, whether you believe it or not, all sort of good reasons may have got in the way of this feature to get in.

And despite ALL of that I still claim that yes, it's more probable that it was intended for some bizarre reasons. We just DON'T KNOW yet.

I'm done running in circle with you on this, you need to calm down a bit. And as tired a cliché as it might be: we'll have to agree to disagree ;)

You just keep saying the same thing that makes literally no sense in the context of keyboard support and input methods which is the headline feature of the ATV4 at the moment.

...and the tired thing about "worked in software development" - So many of us here have. Your point isn't made "more valid" by mentioning that in every post.

Moving on.

MFi controllers works great.

I assume MFi controllers work great because Apple engineers specifically allowed it? If the MFi controller has a little thumb keyboard on it, then Apple would have disabled it like they did with regular bluetooth keyboards?

There are specs that MFi controllers have to adhere to. Don't think a keyboard on one would qualify.

Very interesting question, but like turbineseaplane says the MFi specs doesn't allow it. But that doesn't mean it would have worked, as the UI text field needs to be hooked up to receive and display keyboard key presses.

I don't know anything about electronics hacking, but it would be interesting if someone could hack their MFi controller to output regular keyboard codes and see how tvOS would react to it.

Lol Apple - it takes them forever to put the new Apple TV out and its missing features from the last gen... well done. I use keyboard searching on my Apple TV 3 all the time - its the most convenient way.

I find it faster to search for videos in the YouTube app on my iPhone/iPad and then just airplay it to the AppleTV.

Seems simple to me. You are supposed to use Siri search in YouTube. The thing that got delayed was the Siri API, not the bluetooth keyboard support. YouTube will be expected to incorporate Siri API. Alternatively another App Developer will create a front end app that uses Siri API to search and return YouTube content.

This should all be sorted in a month or two.

Will Google actually allow YouTube to incorporate Siri?
That seems like a long shot to me. :( Isn't that like
asking Apple to allow Google access to the ATV4
remote's microphone in order to use Google Now
voice search function?

Besides..... Siri on iPhone could never understand it
when I searched for "Karadaglić guitar" or some
uncommon names. It only gets it right if I pronounce
it in a weird English way, but not if pronounce it
correctly in the foreign language. Strangely,
Google Now voice search has not problem finding
him when I say "Ok Google, who is Karadaglic" :(
It even starts saying a short biography of the guy.
(this is on my Galaxy Note 5)

Siri can do things with voice is no excuse to remove support for Bluetooth keyboards.

Like I was saying earlier... people would be protesting outside
of Apple stores if Apple removed Bluetooth keyboard support
for the latest iPad. Well.. maybe. :) I think I'm one of the
very few people who use a Bluetooth keyboard to type stuff
on the iPad?

Not if you're a troll or flammer, but has an iPad onscreen keyboard, which the apple tv has not only has a keyboard that is operated with touch control on which to write a sentence takes you a while.
