Has anyone noticed the books aren’t syncing between the books on the iPhone and the Apple Watch? I am halfway through one of my books on the Audible App on my iPhone. I decided to go for a walk and listen to an Audible book and assumed the Audible App on my watch would pick up where I left off the same location of the book on the IPhone. It did not. The app on the Apple Watch starts the book from the beginning. Has anyone else experienced this?

Yep I'm seeing this, annoys me so much I've actually turned off the Audible app on the watch and just use it on the phone.

What series Watch do you have? The book on my Series 3 Watch stays perfectly in sync with Audible on my phone.

It’s become one of my most enjoyed apps.

It's a Series 3 Nike+. SO worth giving in another try then?
Definitely! Do all the usual voodoo: make sure your Phone and Watch are up to date; open and close the Audible app on your phone; maybe do a hard reset of your Watch. As I noted up thread, the very first time I opened Audible on my Watch it wasn't synced (or else I didn't wait long enough) but now its always in sync.

The Audible app is AMAZING! Full chapter support, elegant design. It is a masterclass in Watch design - I just hope one day to have the entire library browsable on the watch with a download button, WiFi downloads or even LTE would work well from my Podcast app experiences.

By "full chapter support", do you mean chapter navigation on the watch? If so, can you share how? I've been trying to figure it out and haven't been able to... the only controls seem to be play/pause and skip 30 seconds. I've tried pressing every area of the screen to no avail.

Sure! Always give Force Touch a try in Audible this gives you - Chapter select, speed options, delete and the ability to change skip to 10, 20, 30 or 60 seconds.

Ok, I'll give it a go. Fingers crossed!

It sure would be nice if the Audible Watch app didn't crash on launch under WatchOS 5.1 beta after loading any book(s) to the Watch. I've deleted and reinstalled the Watch app multiple times and transferred different books with no improvement.

I don't know if it's a WatchOS 5.1 beta bug or an Audible bug that only shows up under WatchOS 5.1. Regardless, I'm anxious for one of them to fix it.

Beta OS on the watch is never a good idea unless you are actively developing an app - the watch OS betas have always been the scariest to use with many issues, not as bad during the #.x cycles but still I would expect issues on the beta.

Ah, force touch... that’s the one thing I didn’t try... even on the watch it doesn’t seem to register in my mind as a thing. Thanks for the info - that ratcheted up my satisfaction index with audible by a factor of ten.

I'm not working on anything myself at the moment, but I am testing two apps for other developers.

But as you say, I'm still conservative when moving to WatchOS betas.

(The WatchOS 5.1 beta also has a cosmetic bug in the daily progress graphs in the Activity app.)

But until now it is at least for just an app thats not working.
The audible app on the apple watch just crashes on opening a book...
That's not good.

Hopefully they'll have fixed it by the time either (a) my new Apple Watch actually arrives, or (b) my new (CarPlay-less) car arrives to replace my current CarPlay equipped one.

I’d try reinstalling the app - that is not normal behavior amongst others including myself using the app.

So, I decided to see if I could listen to Audible on my Series 3 Watch while doing water jogging in the pool. I know my AirPods are not water resistant but I was 95% confident they wouldn't fall out. (And they didn't). But I didn't really think it through or perhaps I would have realized that while I can hear the audio book just fine when my arm/wrist is out of the water, there's no signal to the AirPods when my arm is under water. :(

I wound up keeping my arms at shoulder level and my wrist at the surface which in turn resulted in my using my legs more/faster. Definitely got a workout and the time went SO MUCH faster but would just have to do separate arm exercises if I do this again.

Yea water kills any wireless communication - you won’t get LTE service underwater, Bluetooth as well gets killed - so even if both products are waterproof it won’t do much good - hopefully that will be figured out in the years to come, but its a problem currently.

I did that - but in the end the solution was switching the language on the watch and the iphone ... from german to english.
As in the old mac os days -- internationalisation introduces some not easy to find errors.
Without your hints I would'nt switch the languages - thank you.

Ah very curious

Unless I’ve missed something the Audible app seems to be somewhat restricted in functionality. You have to copy books to your watch, you cannot control via the watch what’s on the iPhone. You also cannot play any audiobooks from iTunes on the iPhone like the Audible app can. This all seems a real omission :(

The app isn't for everyone. It takes me 10-15 minutes to sync a book to my Watch and I only listen to Audible books. So for me, it's all I need. I'm still ecstatic over it! So happy to leave my phone at home.

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy it exists and it's a whole lot better than Apple's attempt at playing audiobooks (ie: none).

Yea the point of the app isn’t to be a remote for your iPhone - I love that you can finally untether from your iPhone for this. I would love if Apple made a books app for the watch that was for their audiobooks - which I think would solve your iTunes issue?

The only thing I have issues with occasionally is it forgetting where I was listening - using Drafts to make notes of what track I finish at in case it forgets.
