But they first announced the iPhone on January 9th, so it's not going to be out until Jan 2009 now.
I am pretty sure he is either lying, or the person he got the info is lying.

Wow, I wonder if it has anything to do with the word "iPhone" in it. Duh.
It certainly could be. I'm no expert fake-checker, but the shine on the box looks good, the packaging looks solid and professional, even the booklet in the corner has an Apple logo. But then that certainly is a light top of the phone, and a green icon where the camera one now is, and there's no iTunes icon on the RHS (did they update the boxes after 1.1.3?)

I think I'm calling that a photoshop. The silver or grey doesn't look right, and the green symbol could be another photoshop. I doubt they would package it in a full retail box.

The green logo is the camera logo it just looks blured - I can't say for sure but maybe its down to the camera.
As for iTunes not being there well thats because AppStore is there and so its on the left side of the picture now.
As for the actual shape of the phone - its looks identical - the supposed photos of the new iphone and from the SDK showed it as being square at the top - well not according to that half obsured photo it isnt!

Since that pic shows a NDA letter it was shipped to a retailer. The box is bigger because it has more stuff in it for display purposes. In otherwords that box is a display box. Not a box that would hold 8-10 iPhones for retail.
It's probably because the link is actually to iphone.com. 3giphone.com currently does not link to Apple's site.
