Mmmmm nothing like starting the day with a nice burnt piece of wholegrain bread, smothered with a thick layer of Vegemite…no margarine…just pure pure goodness…Vegemite mmmmmmmmmm. Gives me that great feeling…you know it…like that of Listerine mouth wash, so so strong, so so cleansing…mmmmmmmmmmmm.

I'm an Aussie, and a true-blue Vegemite lover, but it remains the only food that has ever made me vomit! (Apart from beer).
Thin is best - too thick and you might just risk a salty black regurgitation!

Ok…I admit I've never actually eaten Vegemite like that…need some sort of toasted bread to go with it.

i normally go into maccas and grab those little vegemite packets and chunder on that.
The time I chundered on Vegemite, I was about 10, and for some reason slathered it on a bit of bread the way you would with jam or peanut butter - THICK.
Minutes later, up it came - i figure it was the saltiness - like how you drink a glass of salt water to make yourself chuck up if you've eaten something nasty.
On hot buttered toast, thinly spread - there is NO finer spread in the world...

The NZ version, Marmite, does not compare. I won't comment on Aussie stereotypes for fear of being berated with sheep jokes. But I will say it is a pet peeve of mine when Americans pronounce the word Aussie! It's not Ossy dammit it's Ozzy!!
