Maybe it's just my inability to type but seems like I'm having a lot harder time texting/typing on the new iPhone 4 than I had with the 3GS. Even when it catches my spelling errors it "corrects" them with words that aren't even close to what I was intending to type. Given that I make similar spelling errors all the time, just seems to me that the 3GS corrected those better than the new iPhone 4 does.

I think it uses a "smart" auto correct and it will take some time to learn your typing style and language and it will improve as you use it more.

Your not crazy, I noticed the same thing. It's a PITA

I haven't noticed a difference, although I am disappointed to see that it still thinks I mean to say "mr" EVERY SINGLE TIME I type "me". mr (lowercase) isn't even a word, is it???

It can apparently.

This. And resetting the dictionary did me no good.

It leaves Id for I'd, and makes a bunch of barely misspelled words into completely different words

I text quite a bit so it drives me nuts.

My main problem is anytime I type the phrase "me too", it changes it to "Ms too". Me is a word, I dont know why it always autocorrects it to that.

I haven't noticed any differences from the 3GS.

Something I found though- If you want to add a word to the iPhones dictionary, go to safari and in the google search bar, just search what word you want to add. When you are texting or emailing now, it should not try to auto-correct it.

The whole thing seems messed up. Without touching the screen, it will zing back to a prior typed word and start going there. For example this is would it would look like

this would be a normal sentance

but this iscomesout what

WTF i am not touching the screen when this happens

I still don't understand why we can't get access to the dictionary. I constantly mistype for as fir or foe (two words that I've probably never meant to type and probably never will)? I'd like to just remove those from the dictionary completely. And it doesn't correct don't for me if I type dint by accident. There are others too but these drive me nuts. If we had access to the dictionary, we could at least get rid of the words that we'll never use.

Idk if anyone ever realized, but with previous iphones, you kind of had to touch the left portion of the key you wanted to enter. With this phone, it seems as if you just press the middle of each key.

Words that drive me nuts:

fir
mr
foe

I know there are more too. I wish we could access the dictionary and enter words we want, and remove auto correct words we don't want.

I think what we really need is grammar check where the iPhone would be smart enough to look at the context. Example don't change fork to pizza!

Ya, 'fir' and 'nit' are bad ones. 'Yo' to 'To' was bad for a bit too.

I think it even suggested 'thyself' to me once. 'Thyself'? Really, iPhone?

Something has changed with auto correct but it's not i4 specific it's in iOS 4.

I still don't understand why we can't get access to the dictionary.

There were rumours of an editable dictionary during the iOS 4 beta; but it now seems that the dictionary is specifically for Chinese Pinyin input only.

FWIW, text correction has been behaving itself for me (or should I say "fir me"!) with the English (UK) keyboard.

guess I'll have to learn chinese then!

Glad to see I'm not the only one that has problems typing! and I thought it was my fat fingers..

The worst change I have had so far is that it changed a word, can't remember which right now, to Niggardly... I have never typed that word in my life! Good thing it was to my friend and not to someone else...
