I was pretty fast with the 3G and 3GS, but the 4 is killing me. I just can't type as fast and the autocorrect, which was really helpful in the past is slowing me down.

Try to get "hell" into a sentence, I can't.

i've never been able to type hell, and i hate the x in the bubble is so small i often miss it and and up selecting the word, that's the only issue i have, a lot of time's it is nice because it will finish spelling long words for me like success and necessity requirement, etc..

It must be an iOS4 thing as I noticed it right away on my 3Gs. Still sucks, and I text and email a ton. So if it's supposed to get smarter it most certainly does not do that. Not sure what Apple did, but there's more than a few things that they should have left alone and this is one of them.

I've noticed the same thing as soon as I got on iOS 4. I guess it's just something I'm gonna have to get used to.

Do you want to add words to your own user dictionary? Here is the way: install the Chinese (Pinyin) dictionary, and then after you reboot, etc, you can go to Settings>General>Keyboard>Edit User Dictionary. And then there you go! You can add all the words you want! Enjoy.

This is great! However, it only works with the Chinese keyboard. I'm already flipping back and forth too much with English, Italian for my girlfriend's family and Emoji. I don't know why they took it out of the 4.0 GM! I'd love a way to fix AutoCorrect as it's gone crazy in iOS 4.

well if you switch back to English, the option will still be there! :D it has worked wonders for me and my weird words that i use often. but yeah, AutoCorrect has definitely gone crazy in iOS4. I used to be able to type "weree" which would correct it to "we're" and "welll" to "we'll". I'm definitely disappointed that's gone!

What happened to the feature whereby you could decline an auto-correct suggestion by touching the word on the screen? It doesn't seem to work on my iP4 at all. I can tap it three or four times and it still insists on replacing what I have typed.

That's strange, it still works the same on my iP4.

Just wish they gave us the option to manually choose words to not correct... I turned off the autocorrect which leaves more typing errors but also anytime i put in an acronym it does not automatically change it to some random word that i dont catch till after i sent the message

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_0_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8A306 Safari/6531.22.7)

For me, it is the same as it was on my 3GS, maybe a little better.

It is an ios4 issue and it is much worse for me. I had typing down with the 3G and 3GS. Auto correct is taking a while to get used to again.

I also think the newer correct feature is less effective.

One funny thing it does is, my accountant's name is Ira, it often auto corrects it to IRS. Keeps me honest... :)

Keep trying. You need to do this five consecutive times. Also, excepting the auto correct resets the counter.

I also noticed the difference between iOS 4 and the previoius versions. It has taken me a while to get used to the spellcheck as I sometimes try to select there and start adding letters like I used to, but now, if you do that, it takes the whole word away rather than adding what you type in.

Also, a major pet peeve of mine going back a couple of years is 'thus' and 'this'. I am not an attorney, therefore, the times I want to say 'thus', rather than 'this' are about 1 out of 100000000.

In general, I am dombfounded by what to me seems like an obvious error because a letter is beside another letter and yet it does not even consider that as an option on autocorrect or the new spellcheck. This is especially irksome with a short word. Lets say instead of hitting a vowel, I hit something next to it. Now a I have a short word with all consonants. SHouldn't a freaking computer not be able to instantly guess what you meant? This is really a pet peeve of all spell check, not just on the iPhone.

Glad to see I'm not the only one that has problems typing! and I thought it was my fat fingers..

The worst change I have had so far is that it changed a word, can't remember which right now, to Niggardly... I have never typed that word in my life! Good thing it was to my friend and not to someone else...

Not sure where your squeamishness comes from? To be niggardly is to be stingy.

I turned my auto correct off. I got tired of it changing words for the worst. I typed something and sent my friend a txt and she said what's that word. Told her what it was suppose to be and she said the word AC used wasn't even close to what I wanted it to be now she's trying to call me slowminded on the sly

I'm pretty quick with the typing and dont notice the AC changes until after I hit send.

I think I may turn it off. I always liked it on the 3GS (except for the "hell" "he'll" thing).

Now, it really comes up with some bizarre stuff.
