Glad to see I'm not the only one that has problems typing! and I thought it was my fat fingers..

The worst change I have had so far is that it changed a word, can't remember which right now, to Niggardly... I have never typed that word in my life! Good thing it was to my friend and not to someone else...

that happened to me as well..i was nowhere near that word

I was pretty fast with the 3G and 3GS, but the 4 is killing me. I just can't type as fast and the autocorrect, which was really helpful in the past is slowing me down.

Try to get "hell" into a sentence, I can't.

One that's been coming up for me quite a bit is "jb." My 3GS always changed that to "in" for me, which is always what I'd intended to type. I have yet to see the new one do that for me.

I wonder if there is some interaction between auto-correction and spell-check? For example, 'jb' offers 'jab', 'jib', and 'job' as replacements :)

Another thing I've noticed is that the typing speed on the new iPhone 4 is slower than that of the 3GS. Seems like I have to consciously type slower than I used to with the 3GS so that the iPhone 4 can keep up. Wonder if it's due to the multitasking?

i've had similar problems since i installed iOS4 on my 3GS.

the ones that irritate me to NO end are:

"i" rarely autocorrects to "I"
"ive" either autocorrects to "vie" or not at all
"ill" rarely autocorrects to "I'll"

i text ALOT and haven't had any of these problems until i updated the OS.

and what's the bubble that pops up sometimes above the word??? it almost looks like a suggestion, but in a different format that in it used to be in (i still get the normal suggestions, though). i haven't figured out how to recreate it yet, either.

You can remove entries from the dictionary by the following:
type in the word
when the suggested word pops up, tap the "x" to cancel
repeat this 5 times and the word will be removed
(you can not except the correction at any point, or you will need to start over)

I'm not sure if this is only for custom words.

I feel it got better. It was annoying where it would only correct a mistake if you had the same amount of letters as the word and the mistake letters were only one letter away. Now, it's a combination of autocorrect, predictive text, and spellcheck. I completely trust the keyboard, and rarely have mistakes that aren't corrected by it.

Seems pretty good to me, but coming from a BB device where the auto-correction was absolutely horrible is not saying much. At least with the BB, I had the option to turn it off though.

Well, when I had BB autocorrection was nonexistent and unnecessary. Unlike small touchscreen keyboards, the tactile ones are much easier, faster, and more accurate to use. It is still the single biggest trade-off for me when switching from BB to iPhone.

Same for me! I am getting used to the touchscreen, but the keyboard on the Bold was extremely easy to use from both a speed and accuracy standpoint.

Correct me if Im wrong.....yeah I know, scary to say around here

The autocorrect is not a hardware feature right? So....why does it have any significance what phone youre using? The autocorrect on an iphone 4 will be the same as autocorrect on a 3gs, or am I missing something. And I do realize that it does "learn" some things over time as you type more. But it doesnt have anything at all to do with iphone 4.

Do your worst

I thought the same thing... but I realised it's the shape of the phone that's changed... the thinner edges make it just a bit harder for my thumbs to reach those outer edge letters...

I got used to it; I managed a 49 wpm in iTextSpeed
then I got a bumper... I'm still re-re-acclimating to the new edges again but getting better. 44wpm last I checked.
