this is done on purpose so that you'd have to replace your phone every 2 years

I have a 4S and the home button is beginning to exhibit cracking sounds when I press it.

apple's business practice is just as nasty as other corporations.

That's unfortunate. I was able to upgrade a couple months ahead of time. Got the iPhone 4 (verizon) when it first came out in feb 2011 but Verizon let me upgrade in oct 2012. I didn't see a reason as my iPhone 4 still works and I could probably use it until the 5S came out. Only bad thing is that my home button wont work at all sometimes.

Apple will eventually ditch the home button. That would be Ive's dream. The front would be completely flat thanks to haptic, virtual button. They're trying to take it feel like a physical home button but of course, its not actually a physical home button.

I was referring to the music matching feature, which google didn't have ready until just few days ago. But if you like to troll, go ahead.

It's not like iTunes Match is that novel of an idea. Nice? Sure. Absolutely groundbreaking and revolutionary and blah blah blah buzzwords? Not so much.

Oh, but I must be trolling.

As for the topic of the thread, it's nice, but not so much different than what we have now. I'd prefer something more Expose like. Something that shows a nice full screen display of all your backgrounded apps. The problem with the current setup is that it's not immediately available. There's a disconnect between your app and the multitask bar, and it can only display four at a time. It's clunky compared to how good it could be.

Apple, look to OSX for some inspiration here!

Apple will probably just steal this idea and call it their's

They hired the guy behind notification center. It was jail break app and they brought him and his code in. Not sure if he's still working there and they probably didn't even need to hire him to implement it.

Yes, the fact that someone coded/modded ios to do this IS impressive.
But in terms of design, this isn't useful. You KNOW what the apps look like when opened. The previews are too small to see/understand anything from (especially with the icon over it) so all they've really accomplished is add another appendix to the ios intestine.

Get a grip. Apple doesn't want your "Apple" device to stop working properly. Yes, of course they want you to upgrade, but they don't build in an automatic failing of the device on purpose. Physical buttons just wear out with enough use. My iPhone 3GS's home button is also wearing out, which frustrates me, but I'm not blaming it on Apple's desire to get me to upgrade. I'm going to, though. :D

Free doesn't make the product better, just less costly.

The rest of your arguments are strengths of Google Docs, but they alone don't make it a better product for everyone, just you.

If a product is free and is better...than why wouldn't it be better?

Yes there strengths that iWork doesn't have and should have.

Are you saying you wouldn't want those features for iWork?

come on...even if your a fanboy you should still like cool and useful features.

Buttons wear out, we all know that. But wearing out in less than a year after purchase? (I've already seen some friends who complain about the iPhone 5 home button screwing up already)

Home button issue has been there since the first iPhone, what did apple do? oh right, they added even more features that require extensive use of the button (e.g. multitasking tray).

It doesn't take a genius to realize that the home buttons wear out way too quickly and apple is simply banking on the idea that people will upgrade when the button dies or pay their ridiculous repair fee.

and lastly, a direct quote from an apple 'genius', addressing a customer with home button issues on the 4S: "yea mine started acting up after 7 months, it's normal, just use that assistive touch setting"

I guess it doesn't 'just work', does it?

This is essentially identical to how Android 4.0 and onwards operates with its Recent Apps button (swiping the apps to close them, thumbnail image previews, etc), something implemented a year ago. Regardless, it's nice to see it implemented with iOS, even if it is featured through jailbreaking, as it's a brilliant multitasking system.

Idk what you guys do to your home buttons, but I'm on year 3 of my iPod Touch (3rd generation) and the home button works perfectly? Do you guys push it as hard as possible or something?

I think the only thing Apple have really done to show some form of innovation is Photostream. I like the continuous flow of pictures on all my devices. But I feel it's too much "pretty" stuff, and not raw hard technology being implemented.

What does that even mean?

I fail to see the innovation. iOS should be designed to do things with less taps and definately not let you be bothered which apps are running. Neither of which this thing do. It's called app switcher, not app manager.

Cool nevertheless.

You just answered your own question

It's an iPod touch, which implies that it is not used as frequently and aggressively as an iPhone.

And no, I use my gadgets with care

I use my iPod Touch about basically every day for 12+ hours.

This is why Apple needs to open up a bit and allow developers more control over the OS without the need for a jailbreak. Developers can bring great things like this to such a popular phone. If iOS could get Swype I may switch to iPhone!

If iOS was as open as Android this could just be installed like an alternate launcher and all would be good. I feel like Apple can open up with what developers can include in the App Store as long as the permissions that an app needs are clearly stated.

Not particularly impressed. This tweak is beautiful and finally gives me previews of apps, but the fact that it is confusing to have the Now Playing section and multitasking section combined remains. The current state of the multitasking bar (especially when coupled with the multitasking gestures on iPad!) is so half-baked that I find it dreadful to use.

I think the Now Playing section and toggles should be placed somewhere other than the multitasking bar. That way they can make the multitasking bar scroll without snapping to pages that don't even exist.
