I remember that movie theaters used to flash little black dots on the screen (for 1-2 frames max) in order to make it easier to catch people who were recording movies. People completely lost their **** over those dots. Theaters removed it because people hated it that much.

This stupid orange dot is completely permanent and unmovable (and yes, I tried using undot, and it appears that that loophole has already been closed by Apple).

Don't forget that just because it doesn't bother you or just because you like the extra security doesn't mean that there is no legitimate reason for others to have complete control over what is displayed on every pixel of the screen.

There's a new solution now for 12.2: https://github.com/cormiertyshawn895/RecordingIndicatorUtility

Your memory doesn't seem to match up to my own memory... nor does it match up to five seconds of internet research. Those are called "cue marks," and they were used to indicate to the projectionist that it's time to switch reels.

There needs to be a compromise. Obviously, asking for a means to disable a security and privacy feature is nonsense, as every attacker would use it to disguise the attack.
However, I do not see the need to display the dot on every single external display, as long as the main display is showing it, the information is available to the user.
