About time too :)

I called the Park Meadows store here in CO and took a few minutes to get to a person to check on stock. Weather made me opt out of buying last night, but I can see they are out of 3 of the 4 models so I know to avoid them :).

I wish AT&T had a similar tool.

I ordered my iPhone 3GS 32gb Black on Monday 22nd.
During the ordering process (on the AT&T site) a pop-up of sorts appeared stating -

Orders for iPhone 3GS will ship 7 to 14 days after your order is placed.
Please note that orders are currently shipped on a first-come, first-served basis.

The actual shipment date and receipt of your order is not guaranteed and may be subject to
delays for reasons that include, but are not limited to, product availability, inventory, credit issues,
number porting or carrier delays, and completion of other required AT&T business processes.

Additional items added to the cart at the time of your iPhone 3G S order may ship separately depending on availability.
Your credit card will not be charged until items are shipped.

Well that last sentence is only partially true. First they hold $1.00 to see if your card is valid, I guess.
Then they held a 'pending' charge for the amount of $314.44. Then the $1.00 amount was 'released.'
AT&T just released my $314.44 after a few days had passed, as the item is not available to ship.
my order status remains unchanged since Monday (processing).

I guess it will be 7-14 days as they said in the pop-up.

It looks like they're well stocked so they didn't plan on bothering, but the calls probably have been heavy

welll I see Park Meadows now has all 4 in stock.... very convenient :)

To 3G S or not to 3G S ?

smart idea for them.

I wish they had it for Apple - various reports about Rogers stock, when they'll get more and when they'll ship out. oh well...i'll keep waiting :)

I wish AT&T had a similar tool. My nearest Apple store is an hour away. AT&T is just 10 minutes. They havent answered their phone in the past 3 days! They must be sick of saying "No we don't have any iPhones".

This web site works... i used it today to walk into apple and pick up a 3GS ;)

i could not get through when i called them on the phone, so i went only by the web.

thanks for listing this

deff woulda been useful to me today when i went to get one. i broke my 3g glass. apple store was out so i found my new baby at best buy.

I am glad to see that Apple has finally realized that they were putting their customers under significant inconvenience and they are tired of people complaining and finally decided to allow customers

actually if they were smart they would cut the whole "stand in line outside of the store" game and make folks do the web account set up and book an appointment. then the stores could flag how many sellers there would be during each hour so they wouldn't have 20 folks waiting for the phone and only 2 people to ring them up. or all 8-10 folks ringing phones and folks waiting to buy a computer screwed. they could set up the system so that you pick the phone you want and it is set aside for you. yes it means you'd have to go in and look at them first but then again, how many folks end up buying a case so no one actually sees if you have a black or white phone anyway (which is part of why I think the color choice is rather stupid. just make black and be done with it)

the other smart thing would be if they could link their stock and their phone systems. then when you call you get
"Thank you for calling the Apple Store (insert location). At this time we have no iphones in stock. Please check back tomorrow. For all other questions, please choose from the following."

or whatever is appropriate.
then you don't wait for 10 minutes for someone to pick up and then put you on hold to put the other 10 lines on hold to go look and see if there are phones in stock, the phone lines aren't tied up for other calls etc.

Considering they sold one million opening weekend (more than the 3G opening weekend), I would say they were better prepared this time, and also a lot of people are ordering online. I still see people posting on MacRumors today that say they ordered it online yesterday or today.

order online. :)
I ordered mine Wednesday night. Should be here Tuesday-Thursday.. and yes, upgraded from original, to 3G, to 3GS. :)

So, if your state isn't listed, is that bad? lol

Did Idaho miss a memo? :p

Same here. Depresses me when i check for WV and see no stores. If we get one: DREAM JOB! lol. I'd work there for free.. SHH, don't tell Apple that though.

I picked up my Black 32GB 3G S as a result tonight. Very nice. Very happy I waited until this version to make the leap.

Ok, so the stock website WAS working last night fine. Now it doesnt work at all, it shows everything bar the stock levels and politely tells you to check after 9PM!!!! WTF!! Yeah, that's REALLY useful if they get a delivery today, so you STILL have to spend endless hours on the tel to see if they have them or not :mad: I could have organised this better myself!

"Apple Posts Online iPhone 3GS Availability Database"

No

"Apple Posts Online US iPhone 3GS Availability Database"

They don't feel the need to grace overseas potential customers with the same service.

Yeah they do :)

But it appears ONLY after 9PM every night!! Nope, just called my nearest Apple store, the UK version of the stock tracker ONLY works between 9PM and 8AM, cause obviously that's when you'll want to go and buy it! Oh and they have no idea when they get delivery's or what they get delivered. Like I said I could have organised it better myself.
