Preordered at 5 am central time. Went to apple website It was showing two weeks. Decided to go to sprint website and it said delivered on the 21st. So I went for it.

Yes I know I can pick up Friday morning but I have to work. So hopefully it wi be in my mailbox when I get home.

But you can compare it to the 4 release since that was a redesign too. I was able to order it around noon and still got the phone delivered on launch day.

The 4 was initially an AT&T exclusive in the US. Not only are there more carriers now, but there are more people that have made the jump to smart phones. It's a much broader user base than 2 years ago.

Oh right. Forgot about that.

I think the stores are going to have tons of phones and this is what apple likes to do. Free marketing with lines and hyped up demand. Excellent strategy.

im so hoping this to be true, since i wont be able to preorder the phone. im thinking of trying to go to att stores or radioshack in the afternoon of september 21st. fingers crossed

So happy. My delivery date changed from 2 weeks to the 21st sometime during the night. I thought it would. My reservation number was obtained when it was still 9/21, the delivery date only changed when the order was being completed.

I imagine the system deliver by date didn't have the capability to tell if you had a reservation, so it just took a while to update.

Absolutely no chance in the afternoon.

For the iPhone 4, I arrived at the store at 10PM the night before and was 30th in line. By opening there were hundreds, if not more people in line. I got the last phone in the store... 30th phone was the last one.

Nope, you have to sign for it.

you can sign a form and leave it for the fedex guy allowing him to leave it w/o a signature. they are not responsible if its stolen though

FWIW, I spoke to Apple. While I didn't get "yes, you are guaranteed to have it on 9/21" I did get "it probably wont take 2 weeks before its shipped....don't be surprised if you had it on 9/21"

Also, the associate said the 2 week date is from when the order was placed, not 9/21

my confirmation email from 3am last night said delivery 21st..
this morning i woke up and checked the order status and it is saying oct 5th! i was charged the dollar last night and full amount today...why did my delivery date slip?

I'm in the same boat here.

My order was PLACED at 12:53 AM PST.

My email from Apple says "processing items", but in my email it says "Delivers Sep 21st". When I click on Order Status is says "Available to ship: 2 weeks".

So... which is it? Will it show up like my initial email says, on Sep 21st, or has it slipped?

I ordered a white 64GB at 3:30am CST. It says 2 weeks but I guarantee I'll have it on the 21st. Don't any of you work in the corporate world? Under promise, over deliver. Apple is a successful company which a huge focus on customer service. If they can't guarantee it will be on your door step the 21st, they won't promise it. But that doesn't mean it won't happen. They have a full week to produce as many phones as they can possibly deliver. Oh what a horrible problem. Sit back and watch. Anyone that ordered one before 8 am will have one next Friday.

This is what I am seriously hoping for. It doesn't make sense that they would let people preorder just to get it by the time everyone on the planet can get it. I was seriously contemplating re-ordering through Sprint because they are still showing delivery by 9/21. I ordered mine last night through Apple @ 3 AM CST. I just feel that the dates are a buffer so people don't get their hopes crushed when it is not there on 9/21...

yes..im keeping my hopes up..

if around 2 days before the launch date it still says 2 weeks for me...then I will start planning to camp out at the apple store.. I WILL HAVE ONE on the 21st

(my iphone 4 is on its last legs..my home button hardly works..i NEED a phone on the 21st..lol)

When I noticed the delivery date was Oct 5, I just canceled my order through Apple. I'll just go sit outside a store. One good thing about not having a job right now.
And I figure it might be worth experiencing the hoopla once.

I placed an order this morning at 5:15am ET when it had already slipped to two weeks. The order just started processing and my estimated delivery is October 5th with it also saying "available to ship in 2 weeks". I'm with everyone else in hoping that it arrives well before the 5th because that seems like an eternity from now.

I'm still a little in shock that it slipped so quickly. I have to stick with my Apple order because I'm using a relative's upgrade or else I'd try going to a store on Friday.

It's up to October 5th now!? Geesh...I am definitely going to just get mine from a retailer on Friday.

I had a reservation number a 2:16am cst but couldn't order until 4:05am cst. The estimate ship time changed from 9/21 to 2 weeks... But now my order status is at processing items - delivery date changed back to 9/21! :D :apple:

Yea... no you can't.. tried last year wanted me be there sign for it.. basically what prove you got item.. someone leaving a note can be argued.

Make sure they reset your upgrade. Had to deal with that 2 years ago after I cancelled an order and it was a pain.

Used the Apple Store app around 12:06 a.m. to pre-order and was told my phone was reserved and would get the e-mail to proceed to the next step to complete my order. Got the e-mail shortly after and noticed "ships in 2 weeks" and this morning it switched to "Available to ship: Delivers 9/21
Delivers Within 5 days after shipping by Standard Shipping." I'm gonna pull the trigger now and hope that I really do get it on release date.
