Actually think about this option....... the only external ports on the new MBP should be a USB, FireWire, audio out, and A REALLY BIG MAG-SAFE...

Now connected to the big mag safe should be a docking brick that supplies power, DVI, USB, FireWire 400 & 800, audio in & out, ethernet. This way those of us who constantly take their MBP around for work during the day then connect external monitors and hard drives at night have a clean and simple way to connect all of these devices with one cable instead of 4 or 5. and if your on the road a lot, your never gonna be without your extra ports because it will tied into your power supply and when you don't need the extra stuff, you still have USB, audio out and firewire anyways.

Of course apple would have to design a super special connection that could handle all of these different tasks but i think it would be awesome.

Bleh. I hate it. I really like the look of the current MBP, why change it to such an ugly (and impossible) look? I mean, do people actually think the new MBP will look like that? Where would the Superdrive go? What about the hard drive? What about the very likely heat issues that would arise? Keep the current look and if you have to change it, give it only a few changes (magnetic latch and maybe a few other things I can't think of now). Instead of needlessly updating the MBP, why doesn't Apple update the Mini instead?

Needlessly updating? In essence the "Pro" line of notebooks haven't really been updated for almost five years. I don't find a redesign needless.

NO do you know what that rim is??? its WASTED SPACE that rim is the whole thing being WIDER god people complain about the thing being too big as it is, do you really want the notebook being BIGGER? then no freaking rim that serves no purpose other than LOOKS

Looks, yes. Hence I said *as for me*. I'd be one of the people prepared to live with the consequences of a bigger rim, just for the looks. If I bought a MBP, its size wouldn't deter me too much from considering one. Again, my personal opinion and nothing else.

In either case, I'm looking forward to see what the eventual re-designs will end up looking like.

Its called a Notebook Dock...

Glossy and black. It looks too much like a PC laptop.

The redesign better be aluminum.

MBP's redesign has to be as iconic as the current one. Even though this mockup looks fine, it isn't as iconic is it? It's just struggling against vaios,
while the existing one is a class of its own.

The taper on sides (like MB Air) is horribly ugly and impractical. Keep the profile square like current models.

I also hope they kill off the internal optical drive and instead offer an external superdrive. I have an external Sony DVDRW on my desk when I need to use a disc and I never, ever, use the noisy internal drive.

I hope they keep it aluminum instead of making it plasticy like iphone (yuk).

Yeah right... cripple the Pro model beyond usability for us professionals!

That has to be the most ridiculous idea I have ever heard in connection with the Macbook Pro (well, next to the guy up there who wants a Pro model without an internal optical drive).

People who come up with such ideas have obviously never used a Powerbook or Macbook Pro in a professional environment that requires a high performance mobile mac. It's a pro model for God's sake, and needs DVI, FW400 & 800, audio-in/-out and more than just one USB-port without an external breakout-box.

If you need a fancy-shmancy slimline mac, get the Macbook Air. And BTW, Apple won't drop the internal optical drive, just because someone wants to use an external one from a competitor for his desktop replacement...

[edit]yes, the mockup looks awful..![/edit]

And could you please show me any mac compatible notebook docks that are not the retarded bookendz and going to destroy my ports? and supply power in one unit?

Well for being such a professional why didn't you read the rest of the post? the ports would be on your power supply. Oh so you don't bring your power supply to you to work eh? you only use your MBP for 2 hours a day? Thats about how long the battery lasts when you have all of the extra stuff connected to it and ACTUALLY USE IT. Just because your professional needs are not the same as others doesn't mean that they are terrible ideas. It's just you being ignorant and refusing change.

Yes, but it is much more convenient for someone who uses a computer for desk work to not have to reach down to a power brick to plug in their extra stuff. And no one keeps a power brick on a desk, unless they want their desk to get burned.

wow. Glass trackpad. iSight HD. Super drive :)

Aliens must use this computer. :D

Nice mock-up by the way. :)
I like it.

Kinda looks like an HP Pavillion tapered chassis. Usually take my customers to see the HP's after I show them MB and MBPs. Really like the HP's Altec Lansing sound systems.

Wow. You just made me feel really stupid; it wasn't until now that I realized the MBA's tapered edges are like the Pavillions', and I'm typing on one now. Now I know why I hate the MBA's look, I didn't like tapered edges on the Pavillion, and I don't like them on the MBA.

I'm not crazy about the tapered look, either, but my customers like it. Looks aren't that important to me, though. If Apple doesn't come out with the MPB I want in the next couple of weeks I'll probably get an HP.
