Again, what definition are you proposing?

So give your definition of "computer" already. "It just doesn't seem like one" isn't particularly convincing.

What's that expression about pornography? Something like you'd know it if you saw it...

I'm not going to Google the definition of computer and post the one that suits my argument as has been done above.

The point, which you already know, is that the iPad is too hobbled, is a consumption device, and disappointed a lot of people. This device, though poor in execution, is what many of us hoped the iPad would be more like.

Kind of sad to see this kind of innovation coming from someone other than Apple.

How is this "innovation" exactly if it's nothing more than the PC tablets we've been seeing (but not buying) for years already?

I don't think that word means what you think it means. ;)

And on top of that, Apple will probably do their best to sue this company into oblivion.

This is pretty much what I'd like to be carrying around on short trips. I don't expect it to be a powerhorse, but then I wouldn't need much more than the Atom when I'm using something like this.

Shame Apple can't innovate with Mac hardware like this anymore.

BTW, didn't apple disable Atom support in a snow leopard service pack?

Innovation? Where? Puting some desktop PC components into a thick plastic coffin is innovation? It looks like crap, will run like crap and most likely will be crap. Desktop OS is not good for this form factor.

So you are saying that this is built with the intent that customers should commit copyright infringement and a DMCA violation? Well, that is contributory copyright infringement then, and gets you shut down just as well. Psystar was bankrupt long before they were hit with a $2,000,000 fine.

No, I'm not saying that at all. They will say that it is built with the intent that users run windows or linux or another "legal" OS on it.

If it also happens to be able to run OSX if the user hacks it, that's not their problem. Tons of PCs happen to be able to run hacked OSX as well. Users can install OSX on a dell, but that's not dell's fault or responsibility.

I was taking issue with your statement:
No computer can run an unmodified copy of MacOS X unless the manufacturer is intentionally circumventing Apple's copy protection.

There's no reason to believe that they are doing anything to circumvent apple's copy protection - if someone wants to run OSX on this, they need to hack it themselves.

This is in contrast to Psytar which shipped machines with OSX installed and also distributed OSX hack installer software.

Something like you'd know it if you saw it...

So basically you admit in your case "not a computer" is just a way of saying "I don't like it" in a way that tries to make your statement sound more credible. Thanks for clearing that up. You're just giving your personal opinion, meaning your opinion is no more "right" than anyone else's.

That could be said of any modern PC manufactured today.
Most are more than capable provided the end user follows a few instructions from one of many hackintosh sites.

I personally would prefer this one myself.
It looks better.

Relax. Take a break. I'm not making a "case." This is a forum on MacRumors not a courtroom. Of course it's my opinion. There are no authoritative answers here. It's a discussion. Get it?

I'm not making a "case."

Who said you're making a "case"? Sounds like you're the one who needs to relax (which is virtually always the case when someone in a forum like this starts telling other people to relax).

So your opinion is that it's not a computer. Thats' nice. Others don't agree. Now do you really need to spam the thread with it over and over? (I suspect I know the answer to that...)

Just want to add my vote; if it weren't for the resistive touch and slow processor, I'd buy this in a heartbeat. I desperately want a pen (that is, Wacom) based tablet for OSX!

My hopes were rather devastated when Apple announced the iPad - as fun as it is, it does nothing for artists who need pressure sensitive pen control. And, dare I say, real applications - Painter, Photoshop, even Pixelmator.

This will probably sell like hotcakes to all PC folk who been crying for OSX for ages but on crappy second rate hardware. This seems to be really up their alley.

The only thing I can't do on an iPad that I can on "real" computers is file management, and I'm not sure that I really want to do that. iPad is a computer for all other intents and purposes, as are iPhones and similar PDA/Smart phone devices too AFAIK, some of which you actually can do file management. Hooray.

Wtf?

A resistive touch screen??? Atom CPU??? Oh my god...why is it when groups find funding to take a step in front of Apple they always fall down or they finally produce something when Apple is about to regenerate the product. that thing is ugly on the inside as it is outside. Period.

Verdict: FAILURE

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 2.1-update1; en-gb; Dell Streak Build/ERE27) AppleWebKit/530.17 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/530.17)

That sounds......

Horrid.

I wasn't. I was certainly expecting something more...revolutionary than the iPad, but I certainly hadn't hoped to see something like this.

You're right - it's a real crummy computer with a real crummy screen that you try to control with your finger. Should be a big hit!

Where do we line up for this?

LMFAO
