My prediction is that maybe one person will buy this. I mean the screen is resistive, for God's sake!

But the 320 gig hard drive is pretty bad ass. I just wish they'd make a bigger iPad rather than going smaller. Can't justify an iPad when I have a 13" macbook and 32 gig iPhone, when the iPad is only 64 gigs. Would love to see an 11-13" w/ more storage..even if it's a little thicker.

In most cases you have only the option of Window's on a PC. If your lucky, Linux. Until now of course. Axon Logic took a leap out of the box with the Haptic in our hands, and installed the major components of Darwin, by Apple Inc., on and EFI partition. This means effortless installation of any* Darwin OS such as Pure Darwin and Painless installation and effortless upgrades.

Never trust a company that rapes the English language with such brutal efficiency.

It is.

Computer

an electronic device for storing and processing data, typically in binary form, according to instructions given to it in a variable program.

Tablet

a flat slab of stone, clay, or wood, used esp. for an inscription.
• a writing pad..

Even people who love the iPad (Leo Laporte) readily say that the iPad is not a computer. Your definition is too literal. A calculator is a computer by that definition.

Why is everybody so pro iPad? When I saw this, I thought "Hey, apple finally made a GOOD tablet". The iPad is the most niche and useless device I have ever used. The iphone 4 can do what it does but better while still being able to fit in your pocket.

What definition would you propose?

"OS X-Capable"? Is that just theoretical at this point or has someone actually verified that OSX can be run on this? Maybe the hackintosh installs will work, or it can be hacked, or maybe not.

No computer can run an unmodified copy of MacOS X unless the manufacturer is intentionally circumventing Apple's copy protection. That makes it a DMCA violation, and the going rate for that is $2,250 _per computer_ as Psystar found out. It doesn't matter who does the installing.

This won't run an unmodified copy of OSX. The company is doing nothing special beyond being compatible (which many vanilla PC combinations are). The user is the one circumventing the copy protection by installing a modified copy of OSX.

There's no "official" definition of computer. An argument can be made that it is, and an argument can be made that it isn't (although I suspect that some arguments against it would also exclude some smaller/cheaper/less powerful computers).

Here they come. The first in a generation of "Me too, we threw every hardware port that fit and then some and the hell with user experience" tablets for all those that want to run Linux while you lay that used couch in your parents basement.

Now that the iPad uber-wine-hamsters have what they want with ports, I'm sure they will now have even more to complain about like battery life, screen quality, memory limitations and mega driver conflicts.

Enjoy screwing with drivers and device settings, I'll use my iPad to meet women in coffee shops and date them.

iPad has sold what, 4 million by now? Pretty freaking huge niche.

And mark my words, by Christmas that thing is going to be the must-have gift. I'm stocking up now for the inevitable shortages.

Oh please no, not this thread again. Bail out people, this train is about to go off-rail in a big way!

Kind of sad to see this kind of innovation coming from someone other than Apple.

And on top of that, Apple will probably do their best to sue this company into oblivion.

This is pretty much what I'd like to be carrying around on short trips. I don't expect it to be a powerhorse, but then I wouldn't need much more than the Atom when I'm using something like this.

Shame Apple can't innovate with Mac hardware like this anymore.

BTW, didn't apple disable Atom support in a snow leopard service pack?

Really? I'm pretty sure EVERYTHING worked with my acer aspire 5740G-6979 out of the box using iboot, then I gave up and wiped it because I realized linux > mac.

You say "out of the box using iboot". So it was _not_ out of the box then.

Stop joking, okay. It was funny the first time, but now ...

It is funny. I'm going to make a call on my Motorola RAZR, aka my pocket computer. And maybe I'll type something up on that old 1988 electronic word processor/typewriter aka a computer. "Computer'" the colloquial term is essentially equivalent to PC (Mac, Wintel, Linux, etc.)

You can be literal when it suits you, that's fine.

In my and many other's opinions, the iPad is not a computer, it's more a Frankenstein combination of a small display, a remote control, and an iPod.

I'll take my MBP over it any day of the week.

All your credibility is gone i guess.

So it's perfect hardware for a hackintosh, you can run Snow Leopard on it. And it shows why Apple didn't do their tablet this way. Sounds awesome, right? Except it proves why Apple didn't make the iPad this way.

$750 for a thick heavy tablet which feels much slower than an iPad. An ugly (non-IPS) screen with resistive touch. Less battery life. Really ugly. Yeah no thanks that's not what I wanted.

So you are saying that this is built with the intent that customers should commit copyright infringement and a DMCA violation? Well, that is contributory copyright infringement then, and gets you shut down just as well. Psystar was bankrupt long before they were hit with a $2,000,000 fine.
