I tried a set of B&O earbuds a couple of years ago and was suitably impressed. Arguably a bit overpriced, but definitely a quality piece of equipment. AirPods unfortunately just don't offer the sound quality I've come to expect from modern earbud designs from companies like RHA, so I'll definitely be trying these out once they're available.

It's funny how people will judge audio differently. I find the audio quality on the AirPods to be downright impressive. They sound much better compared to the EarPods and as one who normally uses expensive IEM's like Shure SE846 and expensive headphones like Sennheiser HD 800 and wireless ones like Bose QC35, B&O BeoPlay H7, H8 and H9 I still find the AirPods to sound great, especially considering their size and how darn handy they are to use. They also feature really impressive microphones, something that pretty much everyone else lacks.

Hi Everyone.

I wanted to add this information to the headphones:
Source: http://newatlas.com/bang-olufsen-beoplay-e8-wireless-earphones/51141/

The right (master) unit tips the scales at a featherweight 7 g (0.25 oz), while the left (slave) unit is lighter at 6 g.

The right earphone is home to an 85 mAh Li-ion battery and there's a 60 mAh cell in the left for a combined continuous use time of four hours.

Beoplay E8 will be available October 12, 2017 for $299 (pair). If you lose one of the earphones, a replacement costs $129 each. Color options include Charcoal Sand (shown on woman) or Black.

Received an email from B&O yesterday these are now available.

No sign in Australia as yet (unsurprisingly) - Amazon selling for $299 which translates to A$377 - better than the Euro price (but need to factor in addition shipping charges).

I'm those of us in N.America will have a solution for you soon enough ... we may beat Amazon (?) I'm curious to know the final, best (cheapest) total costs with shipping vs final fastest total costs with shipping to Australia.

Bang & Olufsen today unveiled a pair of $299 truly wireless earbuds called Beoplay E8, the Danish company's pricier luxury alternative to Apple's $159 AirPods.

The E8 Bluetooth in-ear headphones are a mixture of aluminum and polymer, making them splash and dust-proof, while each earpiece features a touch surface that supports fingertip gestures to play/pause music, take calls (a mic is integrated into the buds), and change volume.

There's also voice recognition support for activating virtual assistants like Siri, as well as a Transparency Mode that lets environmental sounds in for safer commuting. There's also a built-in digital signal processor that enables custom output tuning with equalization and gain.

The buds provide up to 4 hours of play time at a moderate sound level, while the included leather charging case supplies two additional charges to give users up to 12 hours of listening time on the go. For reference, AirPods offer up to 5 hours' play time and Apple's charging case carries up to 24 hours' charge.

Four pairs of different-sized silicon tips are included along with a USB charging cable (USB-A to MicroUSB). The Beoplay E8 wireless buds are available in black and charcoal sand colors, and will be available from the company's website from October.

Truely wireless? What are other offerings? Sort of wireless? Kind of wireless? Mostly wireless? Sounds like a sales pitch to me.

This term came about mid last year because both "drivers" are independently powered, and signalled for receiving/sending sound from one another - not relying on a wire between each ear.

google search true wireless bluetooth headphones for the competition.

Apple states teh AirPods with a footnote on their site (https://www.apple.com/ca/airpods/) as "Compared to completely wireless stereo headphones" when making the statement of 5hrs per charge.

wish apple would buy bno

Other than speakers, headphones and a stylish brand name ... not much else is interesting to Apple. If you've not noticed Apple has these already in Beats (not to that high end or full product range) but in time they may get there. Besides in terms of volume I'm sure Apple has higher sales than B&O via Beats ... although I'm not certain.

It is a reference to the fact that there are no wires connecting the two ear buds. I used "wireless" headphones for years - but they were not truly wireless - they had wires connecting the two ear buds. The Dash by Bragi were one of the first to market and they showed the key problems facing these types of headphones - poor connectivity. Apple came to the party a little late with their hideous and poor user experience (lack of volume controls on device) airpods.

B&O seem to have moved the dial again.

I've now got a pair of these and can confirm they're fantastic. Usually with B&O they have quite a flat clinical sound to them out of the box and even using their app you can't get much bass out of them. These on the other hand you can adjust to your hearts content and sound great with bass heavy music. Connection seems good and only get slight drops as I'm walking past known areas with lots of wireless interference, but all wireless headphones do that anyway.

It's only been a few days, but so far I'm very impressed with these and if things keep going like this, will be keeping them.

You’ve uploaded the same video in 1st 2nd and last video. Lol. Thank you though as the dialog was helpful for a review.

Everyone, when posting feedback on sound quality for headphones it would REAlly be heloful to mention specific tracks and how Highs, Mids, and Lows are reflected and possibly where specifically you find the quality to be good or bad in a track. This way for hose of us without such headphones in reviewed can compare with current headphones we have and then when trying or buying the ones we all seek we have a base to compare with. Thanks.

Can’t really compare on the frequencies as you can adjust everything with the app anyway. Out of the box they were a little bright for me, but adjusted them to the warmer side of things and like them much better.

Hey has anyone tested these for calls (initiating, accepting with/out Siri assistance)?

I’m hoping the voice quality both to the other parties as well as for application pickup (Spanish traning in DuoLingo) is exemplary. I don’t want to spend close to $400 and find our heir junk like like Jabra Pulse which is now again for connectivity walking down the block and inside the gym.

Furthermore, anyone use these with their Apple Watch (Series 2 or Series 3 GPS/LTE) for Music & or Calls? Please?

I'm interested in getting these as well. A bit fed up with the poor sound quality of the AirPods and the sound leakage when in public.

A few questions:
1. How stable is the connect with the B&O's - I've heard some people have had issues.
2. How well does SIRI etc work?
3. How good is the microphone for phone calls and can I use just one at a time?

Thanks in advance

I’m very curious if you purchased these and how you’ve felt as answers to your own question I’ve err past 30+ days?

Hi, Yeah I eventually decided to get them last week. Answering my own questions:

1. The connection, so far, had been rock solid. Need to do a bit more traveling to see if it holds up when surrounded by dozens of other wireless signals. Range is reasonable allowing me to go one room from the source but it’s not as good as the AirPods. The E8s communicate via a form of NFC so when you take the right earbud out, music stops in the left. No where near as cool as the AirPods which pause the music but kind of similar if you need to take one out to hear someone/something. Does mean that you can’t share the E8s between two people like you vs. with the AirPods. Btw. The transparency mode on th E8s is pretty cool and really does work quite well and means you can hear things without having to take them out of the ear.

2. Siri works fine but needs a triple tap. IMHO neither the AirPods or E8s are perfect for tap gestures. I have had problems with both.

3. The AirPods microphone is definitely better with better cancellation of background noise. The E8s is still perfectly usable just not as good as the AirPods.

The most important thing is sound isolation and sound quality which are both vastly superior on th E8s and out weigh all the negatives.

Having used them a bit more I have a slight update about the microphone:
I had initially only used them indoors for phone calls but having now used them outside I can confidently say that the microphone and background noise cancellation for phone calls is awful and not even in the same league as the AirPods.

The problem has annoyed me so much that I am actually going to return the e8's. My gut feeling is that the issue is a firmware issue but if I wait for them to release an update I will be outside of my returns period.

Thank you for the clear update; I greatly appreciate this!

So now that's 3 wireless headphones that seem to have call quality issues when using outside in various climates: Jabra Elite Sport, Sport Pulse (completely useless outside for audio calls/voice use in iOS Applications like VoIP / DuoLingo), and the E8's.

What's frustrating is going through 50 odd reviews of these products and reading "audio is great/amazing" and it all relates to music playback ... not voice quality.

I'm beginning to think that the iPhones' built-in microphones are not cancelled for use when BT stereo headpones are used in calls.

It's appalling that use manufacturers don't even fully test their microphones outside in various decibel levels and noisey environments. That said I think I may still pick these up in a few short weeks.

Thanks again and sorry to hear these didn't work out for you. I know they cannot be nearly as bad as the Jabra Sport Pulse's I have. Not even Ericsson's first Bluetooth headset (the very first EVER to be on the market) sounded THIS bad!

This is where the AirPods silly little stalks pointing towards your mouth come in handy...

I don't think the design has anything to do with the AirPods being great for calls. I do believe the W1 chip talkin to the iPhone in a priority sense (cancelling iPhone microphones as my hunch) and the Beamforming microphones DO have a benefit to voice quality.

PS: The MBP Retina announced in 2014 was the first Apple product to feature the Beamforming microphones (x2).

I meant they direct the beamforming microphones... I'd be slightly more interested in them if: -

1) They didn't look so silly.
2) They actually created a seal and therefore had passive noise cancellation and better sound.
3) They didn’t leak sound so much! Had enough of hearing kids on the underground filling the carriage with bloody cheesy EDM!
