I really hope that those people who have been whining and complaining and saying things along the lines of "Now I'm not going to buy a Mac and I'm going to purchase a Windows box for the free Xbox because there isn't a free iPod" are not part of the voting public here in the United States. It's unreasonable thinking like this that leads people to do and say foolish things like "Now I ain't votin' for candidate A (even though candidate A is the most qualified person for the position) and I be votin' for candidate B (who is extremely incompetent and not qualified for the position) cuz candidate A went to my rival school!"

Well I guess this'll be $100 towards Final Cut Pro X.
Really wanted an iPod though.

This is actually a great move by Apple to stimulate the Mac App ecosystem, but it'd been nice to at least get equal value to what Apple has given in the past.
$200 gift card is what they should have done. I mean $60 of it would have gone strait back to them.
What is essentially the 8GB model of the previous iPod Touch cost Apple less than $100 to make, so this move makes little difference in terms of Apple's bottom line. What the company is hoping to accomplish is to get people into the App Store.

It's not even close to the same thing.

This is SO lame from Apple. Gift cards: 100 dollars but only 75 euros. So what, if they have to GIVE something they suddenly know how much 100 dollars really is in euros? But when they're putting something on sale, 100 dollars is magically 100 euros. Right.

This is so true. It's a nice campaign, but Europe getting 75€ is stupid, even though Euro prices are cheaper in the App Store.

They have to payout possibly up to $70 to developers, that's all apple is possibly out on this(unless you buy an Apple App).

Did you mean the real thing?

I suppose the bit about the rival school isn't entirely based in reality and I could have said something that mirrors reality better. However, a statement like that doesn't exactly belong in this thread and would be better suited in a politics thread.

Ugh, this totally messes up my new Mac plans. I was originally planning the Air with upgrades for around $1400 since I'd get a new iPod Touch and could sell my old one to my mom for about $100. Then with the $200 off iPad rumor I thought maybe instead maybe I'd go for the 13" MBP for $1100 plus the 32GB iPad for $400 after rebate - $1500 total, but a great value considering what I'd be getting.

Now I refuse to get either with the $100 gift card, because I don't need it at all. I'm considering buying the MBP that my school is offering. I know everyone on here knows a lot about Macs - can you tell me if this seems like a good deal?

13" MBP, 4GB memory, 320GB hard drive, 2.3GHz processor, and it preloaded with Windows and Microsoft Office for $1066 (and hopefully no tax). I prefer my other two scenarios much better, but I am not going to get those with no incentive. In your opinion is this the best deal I can get? Thanks in advance!

So you wanted to make $100 by selling something worth $100 to someone, and now that you're getting another item worth exactly $100 you don't want to buy a Mac based on some completely fabricated rumors that circled 5 months ago?

Not Impressed!!!

I'm not impressed with the direction apple is going lately.
Inferior graphics on the 13 in. Pro
Loss of battery life.
No backlit keyboard on the Air.
Lack of quality upgrade on the new iPad.
No blue-ray or HDMI on the Pro models.
No blue-ray on the iMacs.

This is just the another way of apple shoving the app store down our throats,
Out of the billions of apps sold I'm sure 70% are free down loads!!!

Get it together apple.

I never doubted that they actually know the difference between dollars and euros.

I paid 50 % more for my MBA in Norway than what it costs in the States, but ACP is redundant here because of legislation, which in turn is a risk for Apple. Besides, there are high taxes here too (sales tax is 25 %).

Well free gift is still FREE gift no matter what it is. If I finally decide to spring for a new iMac this summer I would put that gift card to use to get Aperture 3 (currently running Aperture 2 on a 2006 Black MacBook 2.0 Core2Duo).

I've done the BTS promo twice; once for an iPod mini and the other for a first gen iPod Touch. Both still work fine (battery is terrible on the iPod mini).

Might be good for you but not for many. I have Adobe CS5 and don't need Aperture or any other app from the Mac AppStore. I have all iOS apps I need, so $100 iTunes/Mac AppStore gift card is an absolute waste.

Microsoft is offering free Xbox 360 with every PC of value greater than $700, its not a good time for Apple to end the iPod promo.

Agreed that against Microsoft Xbox offer, Apple's is very weak sounding. But you can always sell the $100 card for $80 or so.

I bought a macbook during the promotional period one year and skipped on it. Why? I didn't want to wait for the rebate. And honestly, how many of you out there don't already have all the ipod, ipod nanos, iphones, etc locked down? Furthermore, I'm also not really keen on selling **** off on ebay or whatever. Personally, I think this is a much better and much cleaner promotion. That's my 2 cents.

I have NO use at all for the gift card as I dont own and dont plan on owning an iphone, ipod OR an ipad.

What good is this 'bonus' to me? Why don't they just slash $100 bucks off my next purchase...?

You get the gift card for buying a Mac, after which you use the gift card to buy apps from the Mac App Store. It isn't just for the App Store on iDevices.

That from what I understand was the price of moving to the newer chips that everyone said they needed to do (and at that point they *had* to do since INtel was no longer making the previous chip).

Loss of battery life.

Let's not forget that was after they changed the battery test to be more "realistic". And from what I saw people reporting on the MBP forum the tests were more accurate and they were posting times as good (if not better) than my 13" MBP. So there really was no loss.

No backlit keyboard on the Air.

Apple is going in a parallel direction here as the Air never had a backlit keyboard. Honestly, while I absolutely love my backlit keyboard (just cause it looks prettier to be truthful), it's not a make or break deal to me. It's just aesthetics.

Lack of quality upgrade on the new iPad.

That's more a matter of opinion. Plenty of people were happy with it. Take my mom for one who loves her ipad 2.

No blue-ray or HDMI on the Pro models.
No blue-ray on the iMacs.

Once again, not really going down in quality if they never had it in the first place.

Newsflash: That is what marketing does, try to get you to move in the direction they want you to do. Any successful business does this (it's called selling your product). You can be sure that if apple or any company is giving off some sort of "freebie", there is something in it for them too whether it be more sales or just influencing consumers in the direction they'd like to see them.

No, I meant what I said.

I agree that nobody should be "mad" about this but I think it is perfectly understandable and acceptable for people to be "disappointed" that a free iPod is no longer part of the promo.

My mother (a teacher) is definitely one of them. She has been looking to replace her aging Pentium 4 PC for a few months now and I've finally convinced her to make the switch to Mac. At first she waited for the new iMacs to be released and then with the prospect of a free iPod she waited even longer. She has gotten kind of excited at the prospect of having one.

She was disappointed when I told her tonight but she will still be buying her iMac tomorrow.

Some of the posts in this thread are pathetic...

This is the best news I've read all day.

Take that free loading students, you have to pay for your iPods just like everyone else.

will i get this deal at a retail store?

can i get a 15inch macbook pro with a 1050p display at a retail store?

can I get the education discount at a retail store?
