My Review of SlickWraps Carbon Fiber
Sorry for the delay, but I wanted to give this wrap enough time for a solid review. I also haven't yet been able to take pictures of it, but I'll describe it in detail.
Cutout Fit:
The wrap fits relatively well, but the cutouts on the bottom aren't perfect. The hole for the microphone overlaps a bit - I've noticed this on some other review photos as well.
Corner fit: As I suspected, this is where I'm most disappointed. The corners just really aren't very good. I followed the instructions, used a blow dryer and have actually retried on several occasions to get them to fit right, but no matter what I do - stretch the corners, don't stretch the corners, etc... - they just don't sit right and there's a ripple effect. I'm not shocked about this, as we're essentially taking a 2D texture and forcing it on a 3D curve, but I'm wondering if the faux carbon fiber material is not ideal for this, as I've had other clear skins that have handled the corners just fine - it's very possible that my corners just weren't cut quite right and that the cuts are to blame.
Texture:
Overall, definitely a little more grip than the naked iphone when it's cold out and hands are very dry. However, when it's warmer, and hands are softer, the naked phone may actually be just as, if not more grippy. Sounds like the "sand stone" finish of the "colors" line may be better if you're looking for good grip. While I'm not as worried about grip, the carbon fiber wrap creates a less organic and somewhat sterile feel to the phone, which some may love, but I'm on the fence about.
Conclusion:
Overall, this wrap is okay, but does seem to offer better coverage than the others I've seen out there. Despite the fact that the microphone cut is smidge off, I'm pretty impressed by the cutouts, as the camera, volume buttons, sleep/wake, sim card slot and vibration switch cut outs all fell perfectly into place after properly aligning the bottom cutouts during installation. After looking through the Slick Wraps website, I'm interested to try a different type, specifically the leather, as I'm guessing it'll feel more organic (ironic, considering the fact that it's not real leather) and softer, but I'm most concerned about selecting the material that most flushly fits the corners. I haven't tried any of the other dry application skins (the clear ones I've had were wet application), so I can't compare them to Slick Wraps.
Weston, is there a particular option that fits the corners better than the others?
