The tech specs on the Apple website list only the 2.4GHz MacBook as having the backlit keyboard. I'd say the bloke on the iChat was talking out of his arse.

Chundles I chatted with a different rep and she told me the same thing. Both the 2.0 and 2.4 come with backlit keys.

Here's what I think..

The people that ordered the 2.0 thinking they were getting the backlit keyboard are going to receive the 2.4 Macbook and the online store will fix the typo so that nobody else gets the same costly mistake.

What are trying to prove by this? This option is for a Spanish vs. an English "backlit keyboard," which certainly implies that backlighting is standard on both models.
That's my point. Backlighting IS standard on both models.

Which is true unless the configuration page is wrong. These are the options for the new $1,299 MacBook keyboard. Your choices are backlit English or Spanish.

That doesn't say it doesn't have a backlit keyboard. It just doesn't refer to it. This does: http://store.apple.com/us/configure/MB466LL/A?mco=MTkzOTIzOQ

So either someone didn't realize what they were doing when entering a brand new product into the store configuration page and there's a typo OR someone went to the effort of creating a special graphic distinctly referring to the keyboard of each model as different for no reason whatsoever. What's more likely?

And yes, it doesn't say it doesn't have a backlit keyboard verbatim, but then neither does the $999 model. By that logic, it should have a backlit keyboard as well. Heck, by your logic, the Mini should come with a backlit keyboard since the product page doesn't say it won't.

Basically, it boils down to which page you trust more: Apple's tech specs page or Apple's store configuration page.

I guess the logical option would be to go on the content of the keynote surely?

The store configuration is what they're legally bound by, since it represents what you're actually buying. This is true of most companies. What they say in the advertising is superseded by the "fine print" in the actual purchase. I agree, however, that it should be consistent.

See the differences highlighted? All signs point to the online store (and reps) being incorrect.

I think they're setting themselves up for A LOT of complaints...

:D

Thanks, this might be the more authoritative information, but Apple still says at the Apple Store that you get a backlit keyboard with the $1,299 MacBook. If I ordered one but didn't get the keyboard I'd be all over them like a cheap suit. If that's the way it is, they'd better fix it -- fast!

i noticed it today when i bought it today online. I am pretty sure us who ordered the 1299 model will not get a backlit keyboard even though it says backlit keyboard english/spanish. Probably will be fixed later onthe website

Go to the Apple site, add a 2.0 MacBook to your shopping cart, without adding any options. Then click "Edit Cart" This is what you get:

Peace. Do you really think people who ordered the 1299 will get a highend macbook just for that reason. I sure hope so cause i ordered a 1299 one. I was a little confused when i saw backlit keyboard (english)

THe configuration page in the store is wrong. And yes, they should fix it, but... it's still wrong.

Maybe it is, but if its on the receipt, Apple will have to deliver it (or give you a full refund afterwards if they can't and you so desire.)

Order now, before they correct themselves!

You are assuming that the specs Steve put up on a slide today are correct and specs Apple shows at the Apple Store are wrong. Now, that might be even be true -- but if anyone asked me, I'd have to say I have no idea. And I'd also say that if anyone ordered the $1,299 MacBook based on what Apple is actually advertising for sale as of today, that Apple is going to owe them something if the feature turns not to be included.
