Imagine the portability of iPad with the epicness and longevity of Baldur's Gate... Indeed, a dream comes true. Hours after hours of relaxed, pure, hard core, old school RPG. Loved this game back then.

Can't wait for this.

OMG! I was wishing for this!! A dream come true for BG fans.

This. I no longer own an iPad but have never been as excited as I am about a game being redeveloped. Can't even recall the countless fun hours lost playing Baldurs Gate, on so many different platforms/computers. I wonder if they will update a release for the Commodore 64?

While they are at it, can they do "enhanced editions" for Baldur's Gate II, Icewind Dale and Icewind Dale II? Any Bioware/Black Isle Studio game please.

Bring back Minsc!

Woo-hoo! Baldur's Gate on the iPad? It would be like all the original...camaradie...adventure...and steel on steel.

The stuff of legends!

Right Boo?

Yeah, I loved Baldur's Gate back in the day...

There's just something odd replaying the same old, long game again. Yes, there will be a couple more quests, but c'mon, you know what you'll be doing mid-game before you even start. You will recall around 1/3 of the locations immediately, you will have to go through that tedious tutorial in the beginning again where you learn all of your battle skills, you will remember what stories the NPC's say (and you'll most likely just fast forward through most of the text anyway), you know the same old antics your party member will say, and what loot you'll be getting from a particularly tough foe.

There's nothing wrong in redoing old legendary games... I'd just sort of wish they took the old engine and just continue where "Throne of Bhaal" left off story-wise. Do a new game with the old engine and old characters. Why not start there right away instead of putting as back to the beginning of time? Why do you spend resources on redoing an old game? I only have a limited time left on Earth (I am 30), so I'd like to play as many original games as possible, not replay the exact same Baldur's Gate, Monkey Island or XCOM...

Just my 2 cents.

Why do you guys like playing games you have already spent dozens or hundreds of hours on? Why not play new fresh games with a story-line that you don't already know before the game even started? Puzzles me...

Nice.
And I just picked up a sapce hamster in ME3, too. :)

Do you think we'll ever see 1GB+ games for iOS? Or even 10GB+ like with multi-DVD console games? With all the voice acting, hi-def textures, cutscenes, etc.? Would such production values lead to $65 iPad titles? Would 64GB max storage preclude this regardless? What about the time it would take to download?

There are 1GB+ games already...

That's an excellent point, though there is an obvious answer: $$$ to create something new and the rather cheap prices iOS games need to be to be able to sell in large quantities = very chancy to invest heavily in a new story.

Still, this is a testing of waters for them, so maybe if sales are good enough, perhaps they could see your idea as a cheap way to continue to the story (since not all art assets would need to be done from scratch).

I want REAL old school. Give me Dungeons of Daggorath! :)

But seriously, this is a game that I never played at the time. I'm looking forward to a first go through.

I'm currently working my way through Book II of Eschalon. Great game!

Also I would love original Fallout and Fallout 2 as iPad games. With retina graphics hmmm..... they can sell millions.

The Fallout games and Wasteland are the kind of game that will do very well with iPad with the right user interface modifications. I think most non realtime RPG will be great on iPad as with the adventure games.

As much flak as iPad/iOS gets for being too casual, I think iPad is a perfect platform for the old school "hardcore"(I use that term loosely) TPRG-based RPG games. Or any other game that requires deliberate thinking and intimacy.

Delighted to hear this – I was planning to get the desktop enhanced edition, so this is just gravy.

e...

Well, they have said that doing a Baldur’s Gate 3 is the plan. I guess doing an enhanced version could be a way of gauging interest in doing a new game and making some money to do it.

Re: replay value – I’ve read people saying that they’ve enjoyed playing BG as different characters. Personally, speaking I just played BG 2 and feel I missed something by not playing it all, which is why I’m so pleased with the recent news.

One of my friend only plays RPGs – she’s just bought BG (again) from Good Old Games after finishing Skyrim. To her, it’s one of her favourite games – actually, strike that, it is her favourite – and just thinks it’s that good with newer games failing in comparison. Wouldn’t say eye to eye with her on that, but I can understand why.

It's only 14 years late..

Emm.. BG was great, but c'mon.. you expect me to play the same game again? Yes there might be some new quests, but it's still BG :p

How about a completely new storyline?

I re-read books, watch movies over again (shorter, granted) listen to an album for the umteenth time (even shorter than a movie and in a field of its own, granted).

And yes, I replay games I like. BG included.

I don't have the tweet (or where ever I read it) at hand but I believe they said the purpose of BG 1/2 EE is to eventully lead up to a new game (although, the BG story is quite done with ToB).

I only have a limited time left on Earth (I am 30),...

And I'm 34, is this a game? I can assure you that you'll find BG fans of all ages, including those who possibly have much less time left on this planet than you and I and yet are eager to relive BG in their armchairs.

Why do you guys like playing games you have already spent dozens or hundreds of hours on? Why not play new fresh games with a story-line that you don't already know before the game even started? Puzzles me...

Partly because some experiences I don't mind reliving twice (or more). See above on re-reading books etc. Some experiences are special. I still haven't found a game that feels in quite the same way as BG does. As far as "fresh" games go, my faith in AAA titles is decreasing rapidly (well Valve and Nintendo might still get me, and the occasional BG/Fallout remake, of course). Perhaps it's up to the growing indie dev industry in my case. I hate FPS games with a vengeance and I more or less assume EA (or whoever owns the license) will find a way to shoehorn in a military shooter in Tetris soon enough.

Ok. So I lied. I would play Half-life 3 if it ever arrives.

And I sorely miss isometric RPGs...

Projects such as Brian Fargos Wasteland 2 kickstarter aren't exactly norm of the day, are they now? Eschalon series anda few other are nice, though (haven't tried Spiderweb's efforts yet unfortunately).

When it comes to consoles for example, I saw so many dudebro games on the shop shelves that I realized current consoles wasn't for me. A bit irrational perhaps, since there's a plethora of different gaming experiences to be had on those. I was just so fed up with seeing the majority of the poster children being the games I hate, I no longer cared for trying out the one's I'd probably love.

I feel the largely same way about a lot of the PC gaming but in that case I already have a machine so I might as well look up a few games I might actually like every now and then.

Some Wii games (e.g. Warioland, Skyward Sword) and computer games (such as Rochard, Eschalon) still make me smile, though.

So, please let me have my Baldur's Gate, remake/port or not. All will be fine. Promise.

Speaking of old games - Empire Deluxe would be perfect for the iPad. I think it would be an instant success! One of the best games from the 90's.

Languages

Hi guys! I have just received an email from good people at beamdog and they said that they will support all the languages and even have different audio and text! I thought it is relevant to some people (like me) so I'm sharing. :)
