So? Don't post anything bad about Apple. We don't need negative people here. Apple is the best.

Pretty sure I can state my opinion about the fact that apple did in fact knock off the notification bar from android. If you don't like it, by all means you can stop reading my posts and stop trolling me. But that's entirely up to you.

Exactly. We also don't need people who think and analyse. We need people who reflexively support Apple, no matter what they do. Go Apple!

Sounds like the anti 1984 Apple commercial. I believe Google is now the woman launching the hammer and Apple is the brainwashed audience.

HTC. It's all there in the article.

----------

Google didn't demo Siri alongside Google Now at I/O. All of the comparison videos have been by third parties.

You sure do seem to assume a lot don't you?

So true BTW. I was at Google IO. No siri side by side comparisons.

This is bad and apple should feel bad. I have an iPad, macbook air, apple tv, and multiple iPods. I want a nexus for my phone dammit, wanted to order one tonight but I can't. why must you hurt me apple?

Because they have billions of dollars to waste on something they clearly think that threatens their products and thus only know one tactic to expose... which is the U.S. patent system. Which incidentally is such a joke.

in the commercial alluding to Orwell's 1984 the state controlled all the information and there was no privacy even for thought

Which companies platform is based on having all your information and selling you as a product?

Google....

Funny how Google thinks it's a Siri ripoff. Didn't they show a side-by-side comparison with Siri at the I/O conference, bragging about it being faster? (It wasn't in any important way. Siri always repeats what it heard you say, then speaks the result that pops up on screen. Like a sports score.

Siri seems daft in the example I saw.

You: "Show me photo's of bull dogs"

Siri: "Do you want me to show you photo's of bull dogs?"

You: "Yes"

I've left out the bit where you sarcasticly reply, Nooo, that's why I just asked you to!

Let me ask you something... do you have a Facebook page? Twitter? Email address? LinkedIn? Do you have a telephone line? Land? Cell?

All of these above collect your information and can sell you as a product. Even your beloved apple can without you knowing.

I wish Apple would stick to trying to make the best product rather than all this petty legal wrangling, it can only harm their image.

When Apple first made the iPhone they copied hundreds of ideas from others. Grow up a bit and look like "the bigger man" in these technology disputes with the competition.

Seems Macrumors also failed to report on the fact that Apple's claim that HTC had not fixed their handsets to remove offending technology that was subject to an injunction was denied by the ITC :

It's not an unusual situation for MacRumors to report Apple suing someone and failing to report when Apple loses. Richard Posner's recent ruling, in which he called Apple's arguments for "silly", were also promptly ignored.

Then again, to expect MacRumors to report Apple-related news without a fairly heavy bias would also be pretty silly.

I sold my iPhone 4S Monday because of this law suit... not that it matters to anyone but I finally had enough, I have decided to show my dissapointment with Apple by no longer using their product.

For now I'm using an old Android phone but plan to buy an off contract SIII or Galaxy Nexus.

I can't be the only one to react this way.

Ah... So abandon the company that single handedly created the modern day smartphone and tablet markets and jump on board with one of the copycat me too jump on the back of someone else's revolutionary innovation. Seems like a well thought position you have. We certainly should all support the me too copycats over the revolutionary innovators. That will help us move forward.

I really think people don't understand what apple did in the last five years. Historically Apple will be remembered for one of the largest innovative technology shifts in our history. Heck they already have had on many decades ago.

Yet you choose to throw your hat in with the people who stand on their backs with no acknowledgement, acceptance or consideration.

Please spare us your completely misguided moral outrage in the way of getting rid of your apple products. You are only embarrassing yourself, ad are the other seriously misguided people in this thread making like claims.

I would add known of you boycotters know what lawsuits your handset makers are involved in because it is not news. Hour protest is not only silly but completely ignorant.

Please list all the current lawsuits filed against other companies by Samsung, Motorola, htc and google. You have no freaking idea. Pure folly and foolishness.

The problem is it leaves an image that Apple is actually gaining some major ground in their lawsuits. The reality is they've lost a lot more motions/patents/claims than they've won.

Yeah, we don't. They were "5 years ahead of everyone" in 2007, and now for the last 2 years they've been catching up to Google as far as features go. What happened ? Google seems to have jumped 7 years ahead ?

Notification center, wifi sync, multi-tasking, OTA updates, iCloud, heck frickin' background images, all late to the party compared to other platforms.

What gives ? With their money in the bank, you'd think they could keep ahead, but the "Copycats" seem to be innovating new features faster than Apple at this point. As Apple is finally entering the online world with iOS 5/6 (iCloud, Siri, OTA), Google is now bringing all the online stuff to offline mode (true cached maps, voice control that doesn't send everything you say over the Internet...).

APPL will have a Market Cap of 1 Trillion by this time next year.

You're going to need to do a hell of a lot better than **** you Apple. :)

What goes up, must eventually come down. Moves like this don't look good, and disappoint potential stock holders, imo anyway.

What happened to the days when companies sent letterheads explaining concerns and possible actions. Perhaps Apple could have simply asked, and maybe the duo would have responded.

I've used Siri, long before Apple snatched them up. I've used it afterwards as well. Google Now is not even close.

As far as unified local search? I'm not sure why Google has done this. Why do people need search? I only use Google to actually search something on the internet, like a question.

Why does anyone need a search of local files? Keep better track of your data. Sheesh. I have 5TB of crap, and I know where every single file is.

I'm not an Apple hater, however, I'm hoping Samsung can get around this and continue to sell their phone. I also hope JB makes it's way to the Note.

This is so right, so undeniably correct. They arrive "fashionably" late to the party, and then claim to do it better than everyone else. Well, of course, you have had 2 years to improve on someone else's idea.

Besides the back and forth about unified searching patents, I did note that in the Apple 2000 patent, it includes 'voice' as an input.

Perhaps that is the 'sticking' point in the conflict.

I also note that the JellyBean Google Voice search function is very good, and incorporates features that used to be in Siri, pre 4S, but were taken out.

Also, on Google Search App on my iPhone 4s, I get the same results that are found in JellyBean Google Voice searching.

Here is the 2000 patent partial claims:

What is claimed is:

1. A method for locating information in a computer system, comprising the steps of: inputting an information identifier; providing said information identifier to a plurality of plug-in modules each using a different heuristic to locate information which matches said identifier; providing at least one candidate item of information from said modules; and displaying a representation of said candidate item of information.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein said information identifier is input via an application program having a text input window.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein said information identifier is input in by means of a dialog box displayed on a user interface.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein said information identifier is vocally entered by a user.

5....etc

Apple should stop wasting their money lawsuits and try spending it on catching up with the competition. Jelly Bean is light years ahead of iOS in every aspect, the only way iOS comes close is if you jailbreak. The Google Nexus will most certainly be my next phone (currently on a 4S).

I have a 4S. There really isn't that much difference that would want to go through all the downloading of my Apps (120) to a Google device (and lose the connection to my Mac and iPad, + Apple TV, and the same apps on those).

Google and Apple will just be playing leapfrog for years...no need to waste my time and money going back and forth. They are very close to each other for the very important stuff.

By that logic Samsung will never sue Apple because they make way more money making parts for almost everything Apple sells.

And it probably won't because the software lawsuits depend from country to country, further they know full well that a work around can come in days like we're about to see.

Ah... So abandon the company that single handedly created the modern day smartphone... blah blah blah (edited down because you just rambled on and on)

Single handedly is hilarious and completely untrue. They didn't do it in a vaccum.

Also - if someone wants to boycott, sell, whatever Apple or any other company for WHATEVER reason they have - that's their right. And your opinions don't weigh in on anything greater. You are quite full of yourself to think otherwise. No matter how glib or how much you speak in hyperbole doesn't change the fact that everyone is entitled to their opinion and how they feel. They also can take full ownership of their lives and what they choose to buy or sell when it comes to a cell phone.

Just wow.

Besides the back and forth about unified searching patents, I did note that in the Apple 2000 patent, it includes 'voice' as an input.

Voice is involved, but the biggest supposed infringement is the multiple search and how it's done:

Samsung argued that "each using a different heuristic" meant that each plug-in module had to use a different algorithm to infringe.

Apple successfully argued that "each" actually meant "each plurality".

That interpretation of the claim construction is a major reason why they got the injunction. Personally, I think it reads the way Samsung says, but apparently there's legal precedent for Apple's way. Upon such details hangs the world!

I hope the patent gets invalidated with prior art and a logical solution anyone would come up with.

Come one we do things all the time to search multiple databases with a single point of contact. Say you need a file on some case but have no clue where it is located. You tell say bob to go find it for you. Bob is a single point of contact but bob will search multiple databases for said file.

To bad our legal system does not have a way to punish things like that saying if it is invalidated we are going to greatly increase the punishment fees. It would also be nice if they could say it is pretty clear that Apple does not care if the patent is valid but instead they are just doing delaying with the crapent and as such strip Apple's right to request injunction until after a full trail.
