The 3D Touch trackpad is reason enough to keep it.
The 3D Touch trackpad is reason enough to keep it.
3D Touch on the keyboard to move the cursor is very useful. Would be senseless to remove these nice little touches
3d touch is useless, press and hold works better.
In iOS 12 there is zero reason for 3d touch since you can press and hold the spacebar and move the cursor around.
You can hold the spacebar to scrub through text, but you can't highlight. With 3D Touch, it's very easy to highlight words and paragraphs. In iOS 12 there is the same feature for any device. You just have to hold the spacebar.
I think I have almost never used the 3D Touch, so I don't care much about it, but it wouldn't make sense to remove something which is already there. The only reason I see is if they want to cut the production cost, so that they can earn more money.
A two finger drag would require two hands to do it.Not at all. Two finger drag on the keyboard did the same thing in the iOS... 6? beta.
Kind of funny - looks like I'll go straight from the 6+, the last pre-3D Touch iPhone, to the 2019 iPhone, the first post-3D Touch.
Earlier this year, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said 3D Touch won't be a feature on the rumored 6.1-inch iPhone with an LCD, part of the upcoming 2018 lineup. So, by the sound of it, 3D Touch won't be a feature on any 2019 iPhones, assuming Apple sticks with the same three models expected in 2018.
- Barclays says it's "widely understood" that 3D Touch will be removed from iPhones with OLED displays in 2019—aka the third-generation iPhone X and second-generation "iPhone X Plus." However, they caution that the plans aren't finalized yet, so they could change.
why 3D Touch is amazing
The 3D Touch trackpad is reason enough to keep it.
If 3D Touch is removed, I will never buy any of those devices, and just settle for last year's iPhone X. My habit of pressing hard on screens for special actions is too ingrained in me.
I do see how removing it would be more consistent with the iPad relying on long presses to activate peeks and pops.
Missing 3D Touch? NOOO!
3D Touch is a selling point for me. I'd hate to see it go. I'm expecting the supply chain may be confused by Apple implementing 3D Touch in a new way using different facilities maybe? - At least I'd hope for the feature to stay.
'long press' on my iphone SE does the majority of the things '3d touch' does on the X..
not all, but the majority.
I don't think Apple would remove 3D Touch without compensating it with a similar feature. If they do just get rid of it entirely, it would be sorely missed by me. But I'm skeptical of this news.
Of course, there's always the caveat.
I wish I had a high paying job like these analysts.
Makes predictions, but the fine print always there to save your ass.
It's called long pressing.I wonder if Apple might implement 3D touch in a different way that doesn't require a pressure sensor.
One idea I had was... well, when you push harder on the screen with your finger, your finger flattens out a bit, causing the area you are touching to increase. Maybe they use this to determine pressure instead? I'm not sure it would work as well as the current implementation, and it wouldn't work when using a touch stylus, but it's a possibility.
I would definitely miss 3D touch if they removed it. I use it all the time!
It's possible to do both, it's been available on Android for seemingly years. If this is true, they need to find a way to use home screen quick actions without 3D Touch since long press is used for rearranging icons.
You obviously do not use 3D touch than3d touch is useless, press and hold works better.
In iOS 12 there is zero reason for 3d touch since you can press and hold the spacebar and move the cursor around.
The same functionality is available on several keyboards on Android without needing pressure-sensitive hardware like 3D Touch.3D Touch on the keyboard to move the cursor is very useful. Would be senseless to remove these nice little touches
