when a more than 5W charger is long-overdue, they decide not to ship one at all? lol.
I am not sure how comparable this is, but I know I was livid that my new "New 3DS" didn't come with a charger in box, and I had to spend $30 for a charger. A portable console, with no way to charge. The cost of including a charger is probably less than the cost of the public reaction of not including a charger.
I have 3 offices and an apartment. I can always use more chargers. Especially those weird lightning ones. Their quality is what makes them head to the electronic wasteland as frequently and in as high volumes as they do.The last thing I need another is yet another charger in my bag. They should sell them for $5.00 so people can just say no and not contribute to the electronic wasteland.
Imagine including a charger with your order if you will need one, and saving a few bucks by not ordering one if you already have one or more -- like everyone who isn't buying their first smartphone.A charger will always come with a phone. That would be a very poor experience otherwise.
Imagine ordering a new phone and it dies 12 hours later and now you can’t charge it.
Headphones are something that doesn’t need to come with the phone because it’s an accessory of it.
A charger is a requirement.
You are acting as though a 5W adapter and lightning cord cost much for them to even come as a standard with the device. You know if they remove this they are not going to charge us less for the phone right? It will still come at the same price. Why not bundles, rather than a specific one-size-fits all item? That's how they sell computers.
That is terrible rationalization. Even if I do have an iPhone, and a charger, what do you expect me to do with my old iPhone if I don't need it? Likely sell it or give it to a friend or family member. Which means I would likely give them a charger...Basically you should have a charger already lol
My galaxy 8-10 came with headphones. My Pixel 3 XL came with headphones... Weird. I must be lucky. The Pixel ships without headphones. Likely other Android phones as well.
Honestly, that would be a really weird law. What would a law like that intend to accomplish other than ensuring lots of cheap headphones are made?
I think the switch to usb-c is an environmental nightmare. Because some folks may want usb-c and for them it provides some benefit, the majority may not feel that way. Apple will probably not bundle airpods in the iphone, as airpods are a cash cow to them. Maybe provide a coupon for getting a free pair of earpods. Of course, there are first time buyers who don't have previous chargers or earphones and they will be disenfranchised. First time buyers are the ones you don't want annoy, especially since android always seems to have giveways.I'm 100% behind this idea. Better for the environment, more iPhones able to be shipped, etc etc.
Why are people complaining about this? Very few people don't already have a charger lying around (Such as most of us here), and let's be honest we all know the quality of Apple's cables suck anyway. Also, most of us use AirPods these days, or other bluetooth buds.
However, there should be a tradeoff to this. (very unlikely I know) but Apple should bundle AirPods with the standard models, AirPods Pro with the pro models. The battery lifespan of AirPods is not very good, and by the time you're ready to upgrade to the latest model, the battery is either dead or severely diminished, therefore Apple could have this as another selling point to upgrading, and would help negate the high price of entry (£1000+ for pro model).
The other tradeoff should be switching the port to USB C, it's long overdue and would improve the environmental impact also. I know it would make lightning obsolete, but going forward every other device has moved to USB C including most of apple's devices, and like my previous point, would be another major selling point for me to upgrade.
Why is switching to USB-C a bad thing? Every device manufacturer has already started to switch over, INCLUDING Apple. The iPhone is the only device that doesn't support it, aside from maybe iPod touch which is pretty much obsolete now anyway. In the long run, everything on USB-C will be far better using a universal port.I think the switch to usb-c is an environmental nightmare. For me there is no benefit and I would have to throw away my cables (the environmental nightmare). I did hypothesize I didn't see the benefit for apple user base in general, even if there is a partial switchover to usb-c already and for some there is a benefit. Why is switching to USB-C a bad thing? What devices do you own? As I can guarantee that any future devices you buy will be USB C.For me there is no benefit and I would have to throw away my cables (the environmental nightmare). I don't follow your logic. Going with your pricing, you're apparently happy to pay €1189 for a bundle, but paying €1189 in smaller increments (1120+39+20+10) is somehow unacceptable to you?
In the solution I'm proposing, you could still buy the full bundle for the same price, you'd just have the option to not to buy whatever extras you don't need.
So then don’t buy Apple accessories. There are plenty of other companies out there making good chargers, often at more affordable prices for better performance.Oh believe me I was not happy with the price. I felt it was already overpriced due to offering poor added value with its poor accessory bundle (the iPhone X had the headphone adapter included yet managed to cost less) and I don't think I will pay that much for a phone again. I do love the phone, but am salty about its high cost.
My point was that Apple is unlikely to make the accessories you need to reasonably use the phone (cable and charger) any more affordable. They love to nickle and dime buyers at every single turn whether it's overpriced RAM, SSD or various adapters etc.
Few iphones, older apple tv, ipad 2, ipad 7th gen, couple of macbooks. With the rumor of iphone going portless, doesn't seem like I will be needing usb-c for years to come. What devices do you own? As I can guarantee that any future devices you buy will be USB C.
Ok, well Apple TV doesn't need USB C, iPad is rumoured to be going USB C with the next model, and I disagree that the iPhone will go portless. The technology is in no way good/efficient enough to replace a port. Next best thing is to add a USB C port.Few iphones, older apple tv, ipad 2, ipad 7th gen, couple of macbooks.
