I think it's kinda cheap on apple's part. They make plenty of money already. Or provide a coupon for a free dongle if you want to save the environment.

Get the 6S, its a lot better than a 6 at this point

I get your point, but I'd imagine people who want/need a dongle are a very small minority at this point. The coupon idea is a good one though, beats just including hundreds of millions of them to just sit in drawers.

I had a 7 and now have a X. I don't think I've used the adapter once. I use Bluetooth everywhere. Not having to deal with wires is the best.

Same. The one that came with my 7 Plus isnstill in the box. However at the price point of the X they should have just included AirPods anyway.

And let’s not be kidding, they only removed the jack to sell more AirPods for better convenience in the first place

Its not like apple removes an adapter after the 1-2 iteration of a piece of hardware that came with one... so hard to be an analyst these days...

This just in: Apple won’t include adapter that almost nobody uses

Cue poster in this thread that will inevitably say “but I use it!” Ok. So that means you represent a majority dude

I can't imagine Apple doing this -- and then still include the analog earbuds with the phones. That would make no sense. I also can't see them including a wireless set. So either Apple stops including earphones entirely (which would be odd considering Apple's focus on music), or they bring back the headphone jack (not likely) or the dongle lives on.
All speakers are analogue; your ears are analogue (now the audio source may be digital).

lose the dongle? then include airpods.

Why not leave a charger out of the box while you're at it?
Believe it or not, iPods shipped without charger starting with the 2005 models (they only came with a USB to 30-Pin dock adaptor cable, or Lightning cable for the latest iPods after they switched to Lightning).

The AC adapter is next.
See above. By the way, the iPod touch also ships without charger (only Lightning to USB cable).

Which iPhone will be the first to include wireless headphones?
Without increasing the price another $160?

Considering the price charged for these devices....it's entirely bizarre Apple might do this. Who the heck buys lightning earphones?
Who buys earphones when the iPhone doesn't come with a headphone jack?

Hooooray! About time. We consumers that care about best sounding audio really want to pay extra so we can hear it. Truly a dream come true. I wish they hadn't waited so long.

....

The future is bright! All hail the Apple. ;)

As Apple post-2013 is all about "giving you more by giving you less," your post may not be too far off the mark one day...

MacBooklet 2022: .5mm thick screen (thinner than last year's model) with a single proprietary .25mm dia port hole (fewer ports than last year's model). usb-c dongle adapter, wireless keyboard, charger, and wireless memory/storage units separate.

I'm sorry, but Tim Cook doesn't yield the power of Steve Jobs Reality Distortion Field.

Timmy doesn't have the mind meld tech to make people think that LESS is MORE.

The drop in Apple marketshare and discontinuing of the iPhone X with no gold or (RED) color proves he failed here.

He'll probably blame it all on Craig Federighi's infamous, "Ho Ho HO!" :D

You ever hear of "bean counters?" A nickel here, a nickel there and pretty soon we're talking big money. I have no idea as to what the dongle costs, but say at $1 for a 20,000,000 production run, $20,000,000! Not exactly chicken feed. Since the dongle first appeared a few years ago, I've never had one out of the box.

That said, I can see where a 3.5mm jockey could lose the "shorty" pretty easy.

I’m sure others will not agree with me, but the AirPods resolved that issue for me without needed to use the adapter. Even though Apple did provide the adapter and it was a nice advantage for those who didn’t make use out of it, Apple does not necessarily have to provide that piece of hardware either.

I could understand you being indifferent because you've never used yours, but to say it's good that it won't be included because it doesn't affect you is a bit self-centered, n'est pas?

I’m not speaking for others, only myself

Apple makes kitteh sad. It's her favorite thing to steal and bat under the fridge.

I do actually use this adapter. But if most people don't use it, I guess it's better for the environment to make it a separate purchase. At this point we can just as easily order the phone itself and add on accessories that we actually use and save resources from going into producing things that don't get used. I'd hope this would be reflected in the price but I am not that naive.

I wonder what the environmental cost is of producing hundreds of millions of Lightning cables, power adapters, EarPods and dongles to include with every iPhone.

It probably will never happen, but I'd prefer to see the iPhone sold on its own for a lower price with the option to add accessories you need at the time of purchase. I presume there's some legal requirement for including a charger at the moment? I would guess most people would opt for less than what comes in the box.
As I've said above, iPods, including the iPod touch have been shipping without charger for over ten years now.
