Every time, it's "Gosh, it costs a lot! Apple will probably give us puppies and rainbows as well as the phone!" and in the end, we get things like the whole "courage and a dongle" debacle.

The phone costs 1K USD. It's the phone. The company is not altruistic, they're making bank. Wishful thinking isn't going to change that.

Analysts still can't wrap their heads around people actually paying $999 for this phone (while thinking paying $939 for a Samsung Galaxy 8 Note is perfectly rational) so they keep coming up with ways for Apple to make it more "acceptable" - be it including AirPods or bundling Apple Music / iCloud Storage to "lower" the price (via offsets).

Fact is Apple will sell every one of these they can make no matter what they priced them at. Like AirPods, I expect these to be backordered for months (if not a year) due to the inability for suppliers to make enough components to meet the demand.

I this turns out to be true I would definitely by it!
????????????????????????????????????????????????
Wall Street Journal say iphone 8 will be in short supply...stock tanks today....if it is NOT in short supply...they will never write that "Oh, we were wrong about that"....people love to attack apple ..it gives them notice in the media.

Ppffftttt heaven forbid they should reduce the iPhones price instead....

Haha I am yet to see one single Note 8 review that hasn't mentioned the high price... but they offer it with good deals too.

Hard to imagine Apple is generous enough to throw in these "Gifts" with an iPhone. Although it kind of makes sense for an anniversary phone.

Except that it’s not a gift at all, it’s a year free and by then you are “caught” in it, so will likely continue paying afterwards. So it’s a sucking in technique.

It's not free to run gigantic data centres...
I didn’t suggest that it was. But their datacenter costs are internal so it is something they have more control over. They are in a position to evaluate the cost of absorbing the extra load. They may have the capacity to absorb a promotional deals impact with relatively little additional cost.
Apple Music, on the other hand, has pricing implications outside of Apples control.

My guess is Barclays is just trying to get some attention during "peak iPhone" hype. If they knowing anything at all about Apple, they know this isn't their style.

I think the thing that Apple does best is cause all sorts of media and people to spend their entire lives guessing about what they are going to do. I wonder how many people are employed full time guessing what Apple will do?

I hate to admit how old I am but I remember when new cars cost $3,000. There were articles that reported that the parts and manufacturing cost about $500. What a stink that caused. But parts and manufacturing is only a small part of costs of a phone. The research and hardware and software development costs are much bigger than parts.
Think of what you are getting for 1,000. If you don't want the features you can still get a flip phone.

You don't go WIDER color space without DEEPER color depth to cover it !

This represents an OBVIOUS miss by Barclays AND the rest of them !

Apple screwed-up with it's Wide Color strategy by going Display P3 / Wide Color BEFORE going 10-bit color !

That should change on September 12th ... on that day, Apple will announce 10-bit color Capture & Display for some of it's newer mobile devices ... the change will go into affect with iOS 11.1, which should become available to the general public about 5 weeks after that announcement.

Off the Radar of most, but it should NOT be !

Apple could debut an iPhone 8 bundle that packs in a year's worth of Apple Music and a 200GB iCloud subscription into the cost of the smartphone

If they give away Apple Music, it's promo thing to get people off Spotify. I am not sure it's a wise move. Microsoft had to pay EU $600 million because they shipped their media player with Windows.

When it comes to iCloud, every iPhone should get enugh cloud space to backup their phone for free. Only if you want to store more than fits in memory, you would have to sign up for a subcription. It would mean less hassle for people and make the iPhone a better product

Many people would just buy a phone with more memory to get more cloud space.

Nah, this would be more like Apple double dipping for those of us who don't want their music service and don't pay for extra memory. So after 1 year I'm stuck with 2 more subscriptions? No thanks.

It's not like Apple needs to do this anyhow, the ip8 is going to fly off the shelves. Plus it's already supply constrained.

Not interested in those, but if they threw in a ‘free’ wireless charger even it wouldn’t work until 11.1 I’d go for that

Possibly. In addition to other features they've added to the phone.

And they added features in the past without raising the price. This is purely a play to keep demand low due to low yields.

I doubt they're going to add in something they'd charge around 100-150 for.

Not only that, but they'll also sell the rapid charger separately for an extra $59-$79 (??? just guessing), and loads of people will buy that as well.

Barclay's should just let Tiim Cook and the Apple board run Apple.

They're just jealous they aren't the world's largest public company.

Fat chance with Timmy at the helm.

Watch South Park. It's TimMAY! :D

I'm sure the fanboys will fall in line and drool for these "perks" but this would be the thing that would make this a SKIP model iPhone for me. Not that I don't think those things have value. It's just that I don't need them.

Like I keep saying, with the price and the no TouchID driving off the road problem, I think I'm buying an iPhone 7 right now before the rush and prices of them go up.
