Literally just bought an A16 one to complement my Neo and M4 mini. I find myself using the iPad the most lol. If I want a keyboard I will use the Neo. The on screen keyboard is so large I find myself typing on it pretty darn fast while laying in bed. It’s my Reddit and YouTube machine.

I disagree with the OP.

I used a base iPad 7 for 7 years for everything, and only transitioned to my 2020 iPad Air recently when Procreate became too glitchy. There is a second iPad Air being used here too, and that is too much for the user.

I intend to replace at least one of these iPad Airs with base iPad models, perhaps both. We do not need or want every bell and whistle.

These devices act as a gateway into the ecosystem for Apple. Once you are in, you will buy an iPhone and Mac to complement. That also entails more services revenues. Getting rid of these gateway devices makes no sense. Not everyone needs an M5 chip and a tandem OLED

I’m still using an iPad Air with the M2 chip which works great for me. I am not  but I think or thought I read something where  was going to phase out some iPads and continue in the direction and development of something like the MacBook Neo as a iPad Air replacement.

I have never needed an additional keyboard for any iPad I have ever owned so that wouldn't factor into the equation for me.

The base iPad is also something I buy for my kids and they are very popular in those sorts of market due to the lower cost. There is no sense whatsoever removing them from the range. Considering Apple Intelligence is pretty poor at present, I think we will be waiting at least half a decade before its a feature that is useful.

There is no reason to keep the base iPad with A16, it’s a bad deal… Base iPad + Keyboard cost more than the MacBook Neo ! That’s cringe ! Why not update it ? Well it might affect a lot iPad Air sales, their main point those last years was Apple Intelligence and more features like stage manager (now on every iPad)… No one would buy m4 cause no one needs m4 on an iPad.

Here is my plan :

- Remove the base iPad

- Release a new version of the iPad mini (with a19 pro, people will love this one)

I think this is good for everyone !
I beg to differ. The neo is NOT a replacement for an iPad in any way, shape or form. I have a 10th gen iPad with logitech keyboard. I use it with and without the keyboard most every day. I never once said, self....I want to replace this with another laptop that I have 3 of already. Two different segments, two different markets.

The iPad is a great value even if the Neo is a great value as well. They do not compete against each other.

Like the M4 Air came out a few months ago with 60hz and then you write this wishing that the next base iPad will get 90hz 🤦‍♂️

Maybe that was because of manufacturing or supply chain considerations. The outlook could change. 150 dollar tablets from Walmart have 90z displays Apple has to upgrade
