I fully expected a US price increase.

It doesn’t compute for the price to stay at $999 – where it’s been for many years despite inflation – just as Apple finally doubles storage to 256 GB and boosts RAM to 12 GB, in the face of a plummeting US dollar and new tariffs.

Something’s gotta give.
This is the equivalent to an abuse victim knowing the the current rate of beatings cannot be sustained because the abuser tolerance has increased. Are you kidding me?

Why aren’t we talking about why the price for iPhones hasn’t dropped???

You used to be able to buy an iPhone SE for what, $429? Now the 16e now starts at $599.

username also checks out… :). Have a nice day

Sometimes I want Microsoft to come back with a windows phone done right. 3 players are better than 2.

European prices will increase in step with US pricing. That's always the way with Apple, and European price increases will subside the falling dollar and tarrif costs. It won't just be US customers that the extra cost to Apple will be passed on to.
Aside from the fact what's being talked about isn't a "price increase", since the storage etc. is more, so not comparing like to like, and besides Apple isn't expected to be affected by tariffs.

I don’t know why I assumed the Air would be much cheaper. Unless you want a lightweight phone, no real reason to get the Air, right?

It blows my mind how people can complain about a device like this that in reality brings so much value. You can do SO MUCH on a phone. Heck I know many people who no longer have a computer because of their smartphone.

If you can't make money on an iPhone then you are doing something wrong. If you have a business, it is likely a write-off to buy a new phone. Posting items for sale on Marketplace, etc. brings in money to help offset the cost. I literally can't tell you how much money I've made from my iPhone 14 Pro as it relates to social media content, selling items, calls for side work outside my 9 to 5.

You can do all this on a phone that costs less than $1200

Excellent point.

I was astonished to learn that the Pro sells so well, but it tracks with the three lenses I see in all the social-media mirror selfies.

That only works if you can’t count. In reality you pay even more with hire purchase through a carrier.

It’s like the people who think cars are cheaper to lease or buy on hire purchase, or the people who find Adobe Lightroom easier to own as a subscription rather than an outright purchase. All of it relies on people not being able to count.
Who cant count? I have 5 phones on a family plan for $220 a month with AT&T......all of us get new phones every 2-3 years for FREE. Funny thing is, I'm also in the car industry, so I can speak to leasing.......while leasing isnt ideal for everyone, when you drive a certain amount of miles per year or less ( 15k or less ) and actually know how to negotiate the price of the vehicle, leasing can actually SAVE you a lot more money vs. buying. Half of new car buyers in america get a new car every 3-4 years. The other half keep it for 5+ years. If you trade in your vehicle every 4 years or sooner, you never owned it, the bank does ( assuming it was financed ) and its a worse deal than if you had leased it due to massive early depreciation, for this scenario, in many cases, that math works out better to lease, so long as you drive under 15K miles per year ( which is typically the highest mile term you can ask for when leasing ). If you hold on to a vehicle for 5 or more years and its paid off......than yes, owning is better than leasing. but again, since half of all new car buyers in america trade in on average every 4 years, it can be cheaper to lease and let my money grown in the stock market.

Correct. I would argue that people should seriously consider what they spend their money on ... but then I'd get negative comments for doing this.

I ask my friends all the time.. .why do you buy a "pro" device when you don't take photos/videos, don't play games, etc. They respond they just want nice things. I said umm ok sounds good. I know people who drive less than 20 miles a day who spend $80,000+ on a vehicle. They could easily get by with more a commuter car.. especially not spending much time in their vehicle per day... but they tell me they only live once and just want nice things. Everyone has their preference on what they buy and spend their money on and I just go with it. What can you do really? If my devices (I have several for work, personal and professional services) didn't make me money or count as a write-off.... I would not be spending much on a phone. Side work alone pays for my devices and I don't upgrade my iPhone until every 3-4 years. I do buy a Pixel every 2-3 years as well to have a device outside the Apple ecosystem.

Keeping the regular 17 at $800 will be key as I’m assuming it will have better raw performance numbers than the pixel 10.

The good thing with the smartphone market is that we now have some compelling options in the sub $500 range with multiple years of software support.
Huge W by apple for this.

Perhaps, but the search bar being universally on the bottom screams at just how right Microsoft was in their decisions with Windows Phone.

It was just far too late to go up against two juggernauts in the mobile space that already had a significantly larger install base.

I miss it.
