If it starts at $1199, Apple should expect not as many upgrades unless the trade-in price increases.
I usually upgrade every year, either by selling or trading in, but if $1199 is true, I'll keep my 16 Pro for another year or two.

More fool me, commented before reading the article, so I have deleted my original post because this is all BS. It is nothing more then a pure ‘prediction’ and ‘opinion’ by some random marketing analysts. NO leaks or anything just pure personal opinion.
A worthless story really.
Yup… Welcome to MacRumors lol

I do not need or want all that. My iPhone is not my main computing device, and I always prefer to use a computer...my screen time, on my phone is, >1.5hrs/day. I would easily give up my iPhone before my laptop.

I brew my own coffee at home, and we get free coffee at work, and I pay for my phones outright and upfront.
I use iPhone because I use Macs, not the other way around.

I've also had Apple Watch for almost a year, and that's reduced my phone screen time a lot, as I don't pull out my phone to check the time, notifications, chek who's calling, messaging me, etc.

Given these things, I'm not that bothered about how fancy or premium my iPhone is, as long as it is in the ecosystems and supports the watch. I've an iPhone 16 now, but before that I had an SE2 (2020) - I still have it and it's still a great phone. The reason I upgraded wasn't that I was unhappy with the SE ( there were. business reasons).

As for buying tech, I used to always buy outright, with a lump sum payment, and you've said. Last November was the first time I bought through a carrier on 24 monthly payment structure.

I only reason I did this is that my accountant has been shouting at me for years about needing to have more tax-deductible regular monthly expenses. :-(

Basically I upgraded my phone to humor my accountant.

We really need to have price guides for other countries.
The tariff situation this year id likely to affect US prices, but what about other countries?
To some extent it's going to affect just about everyone. The tariffs make it more expensive to operate in the U.S., a huge market. Companies will spread out that expense.

It’s a pretty rubbish ‘upgrade’ year. Probs best wait until the folds arrive next year for consideration.
That's fair, but there's always something better coming just a year away. Next year, if the folds do arrive, in typical Apple fashion there will probably be some notable flaw or omission, but don't worry, next year's 2nd gen will perfect the new form factor.

Depends on how Apple decides to cover tariff costs. A smaller worldwide bump could lessen the US price increase, thus limiting US market impact.

I originally switched to iPhone because Google lost the plot when pricing Pixel 4. I suppose the pendulum has finally swung the other way.

We'll just have to see what's what when my 13 mini finally bites the dust.

It depends. If one has a 16 maybe. Coming from an older phone it’s a solid upgrade.
I'm hesitant as an average 14 Pro user. Don't really see a solid upgrade here from 14Pro to 17Pro for my use.

14Pro was a massive jump from my 11 with an immense update to camera system. I'll conidering if the front camera goes to 24MP and if the battery life is significantly improved.

I skipped 16Pro:
Better zoom (3x to 5x)
slightly larger screen 0.2"
15% better battery life (Ok this is great but not solely for the upgrade)
USB 3 transfer speeds (don't use it)
Faster MagSafe charging (don't use it, fast wired charging and 5W overnight charging for me)
Apple Intelligence (🙈)

So if I want another pro, I'll consider if front camera and battery life are indeed significantly better. Or I'll wait for 18.

Keeping the regular 17 at $800 will be key as I’m assuming it will have better raw performance numbers than the pixel 10.

The good thing with the smartphone market is that we now have some compelling options in the sub $500 range with multiple years of software support.

Remember when analysts said the original iPad would be $999 but it ended up being $499? 🤷‍♂️

Edit: OG iPad was also going to be OLED 🤣

If Tim was in charge back then, it most likely would have been.

Nuts that I can buy a "new" M1 MacBook Air (U$599) for less than a "new" base iPhone 15 (with half the storage U$699).

I'm going to hold on to my 14 Pro for as long as I can. Phone prices have become so crazy.

I'm confused......all the people in here b-itching and complaining about iphone prices....don't you guys get new phones ever 2-3 years for free or highly subsidised by your cell phone carriers? I've never paid full price for any iphone ive ever owned....

iPhone 16 pro cost me nothing ( $999 model ) with trade in of my 13 pro.
iPhone 13 pro ($999 model) cost me nothing, with trade in of my iphone x
iPhone X cost me $100, with trade in of my iphone 8
iPhone 8 cost me $200 out of pocket, ( no trade in ) but sold my iphone 6 for a few hundred to offset that
All my previous iphones ( 3g, 4 and 5 ) were free or mostly free bc they were all subsidized by the carriers too.

That is only true in certain countries. In other countries, the phone is not subsidized by the carrier. You can get a phone and pay it off in 24 monthly installments, but you are paying the full price + interest + carrier charge. The carrier charge does not subsidize the phone.

I got you. Different strokes. My spouse has a 14PM and I’m thinking about the 17 for her. I have the 15PM and to me it may be too soon to upgrade.
