THANKS YOU SO MUCH GUYS! I was going to buy a new battery but the link you posted here got me a new one for free! I love you guys!

i sent mine in to apple through the computer store...but i think they might have sent it through the wrong avenue...the Battery Exchange Program (which is only for certain batteries).

Mine was screwed up from the Battery Update 1.3. It killed my battery life.

849 mAh over max capacity for me. I bet it will go over 950 with my next calibration.

Also, this battery is 6 months old since the first one crapped out after Apple's battery update.

how did you get your battery to store more than it's stock charge?

Here's what I got when I used "coconutbattery" on my Macbook.

if the 100 % was due to the Battery Update, calibrate asap. Seems like the update resets the memory on the battery, providing people with false readings.

just to update, i received a new battery from apple today (i sent it in Friday). Happy customer here. :)

I got 5280/5200 after I calibrated my battery! This is sweet! How much higher does it go up If I keep calibrating it!?!?!?!??!

I think it's likely that your battery is one of the 6300 mAh ones...
go to the terminal and type "ioreg -w0 -l | grep Capacity
This will tell you all the info you need. The first line will be the DesignCapacity of the battery.

It is likely you will need to maually enter this into coconutBattery to get the proper display.

BTW, my battery is at 93% after 36 cycles in 4 months, although I haven't calibrated before. We'll see where it is in a few more months...I may need to go by an apple store :)

calibrating issues

i haven't calibrated by battery for a few months however, when i last tried my macbook shut down before it could go into sleep mode (i assume the battery capacity is less than it thinks it is) and so the calibration didn't update properly.

does anyone know a way around this?

thanks

Okay so last week my battery on my MacBook Pro was at about 90% health. I just checked again now because I'm in class and noticed that I had 20 minutes of battery life remaining and that's not at all normal. My battery health is now down to 62% on 102 cycles. The only thing that's changed between now and last week is Leopard.

Anyone else have this issue? Or did my battery just take a crap on me for no apparent reason?

I've actually only had my MBP for 4 days, but coconut battery says that my battery is 8 weeks old.. is that normal?

what percentage do you guys usually start charging at?

hey i guess thats the age of your mac.. mine showed as 1 month old on the frst day.. i guess thats the day the os was loaded into the mac maybe:confused:

Solved my battery problem

No fault ... if the battery is indeed a bad battery, it's covered up to two years after purchase even if you don't have AppleCare. See http://www.apple.com/support/macbook_macbookpro/batteryupdate/

Thanks to this person who provided the link to the apple battery support page and brought it to my attention when i was about to spend £100 on a new battery. My macbook pro battery only holds a 30min charge after around 200 charge cycles, and constantly switches off without warning when running on battery. The max charge it now holds is 37% of the original charge.

Its over 18 months old but after calling apple support and answering a few questions, they are sending me a brand new replacement free of charge. I suggest others go down this avenue if they can. :):):)

This is my reading

Coconut battery:

istat nano:

Why do they have two readings...and why is my battery this low, after only 6 months. I go through[roughly] about 1 cycle a day. I was just wondering, because of this happening, is it better to leave my laptop plugged in, at all possible moments?? I'm getting rather worried at this rapid decline in my battery's health it DOES fluctuate, sometimes % going up to 99 or even 100, but this is the lowest it's ever been, at 96%...Altho coconut says 93%:(

Can anyone help me? Thanks.

this thread is so old oh man.

your pics arent working.

96% isn't low.

if it's lower and I'm misunderstanding, you should go to the apple store.

96% is fine.

my new battery was at 96 like a week after I got it. and it's staying solid there.

If your operating system is Leopard, then coconutbattery may not be accurate. Since you go through about 1 cycle a day, you should charge the battery one day, and then use the battery's charge the next day. It's good to let the charge out. I recommend calibrating the battery about every month or so to keep the battery's performance at its best. You can get the instructions on how to calabirate your battery here- http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86284

ok, thanks for tht, it's just tht up until end of last week I was 100%, so just got worried it was declining rapidly.

Sorry about it being old thread, all I wanted to do was get info, but when came across this page and what was said, I got a lil curious if mine was ok, so decided to check! Sorry.

forgot to say, macbook is only 6months old, and on 148 cycles...I'll try pics again.

can anyone help

my battery life is at 97 percent after just 7 cycles.. this surely isnt normal??

ive had my macbook about a week!

not too happy about it really!

what should i do?
is it an issue worth moaning about to apple care?

or is this normal!

I thought I would try coconut on my less than 1 week old MB

where it says how old your mac is it says 123 months

Coconut does not read the # of cycles or the age of your mac correctly in Leopard. Use System Profiler or iStatPro to see the correct numbers for those. Coconut is still correct for the current/max battery charge/capacity data.
