Quick question guys, I thought I'd just check the battery capacity of my MacBook that I bought in June.

I'm using the latest version of Coconut Battery (3.2.1) and I'm slightly alarmed that the capacity has gone down by 12% since I bought it.

Should I be concerned? I tend to run it on battery, then use it while its charging, then take it off charge when it gets to 100%, then rinse and repeat. I don't let the battery get down to 0%, usually 2-3% when I get a notification that the battery is running low.

To me, I seem to have lost a lot of capacity in the few months I've had the machine. I'm also not sure why the capacity shows as 8500mAh's the last time I ran it, and now shows almost half that capacity??!

Is there anything I could be doing differently or I could do to try to improve my battery?

Thanks

pac

To lose over a 1/10th of battery life in 5 months is crazy. Mine is at 94% after 2 months. This is unacceptable and false advertising by Apple. They should quote their battery figures for the MacBook with 1/10th cut off.

There are already multiple threads on the same subject. You will very likely find more information, comparisons and value there, as opposed to starting a new thread on the same subject.

To name but a few

Would be good if one of the Mod`s merge all these threads concerning 12" rMB battery capacity...

Note to those with rapidly diminishing battery capacity; Have your rMB checked by Apple as the Genius can run extended diagnostics. Some members of the forum have found that there was issue with the Logic Board (resistors), subsequently Apple replaced both the battery & Logic Board under warranty.

At very least you should ensure the issue is documented in Apple`s system, those in the EU and UK have strong consumer protection use it to your advantage...

How did you own the Macbook in 2014? What am I missing here?
If you are refering to my screenshot, you can ignore the 2014 numbers. These were from my Retina MacBook Pro that I had before. I've since removed these entries from Coconut Battery history. It must have been copied over when I migrated over.

If it's any reassurance to you, I was down to 88%, with about 40 loadcycles according to Coconut Battery, a couple of weeks ago. Now I'm up to 96,6% with 49 loadcycles! Go figure. So I'm going to stop worrying.
