My mophie is clunky and dropped it and the battery got fatter??.. man.. the Apple case is very soft and nice, hides dirt and is snug. hate the mophie 2part case, feels like 2004- what happen to that company?
The only thing I have from Mophie is the wireless charger which has worked well. For the price Mophie charges, I think they should have done better with their case.

I'm currently using it on my iPhone X and have had zero issues with it. The muffling in the speaker is minimal and the microphone isn't as having affected during videos/phone calls like you would think. The price does hurt but I managed to snag mine for 25% off at my local best buy so I pulled the trigger and have been enjoying it greatly.

My biggest complaint and why I went with Mophie over Apple is the fact that Apple doesn't have a case for the iPhone X. It's meant for the newer iPhones even though the X and XS have the same dimensions the speaker/microphone is blocked if you were to use the case on the X. To add insult to injury you'll get a message stating this accessory isn't supported. o_O

Had the Apple smart battery case for my XS max since it was released and I’m loving it!

I’m used to the the weight now and appreciate the much improved battery life.

I tend to change between this and the Apple leather case. For days that I know I’ll be using the phone heavily, I snap on the smart battery case.

For days where I need a slim phone in my pocket, I ditch it and go for the leather case.

Nobody ever mentions that third-party battery cases fool the iPhone into thinking it’s plugged into a wall charger, so it does battery-hungry tasks like leaving the processor ramped up, syncing to iCloud, constantly firing the radios, etc. This uses a lot more power and likely decreases battery life in the long run.

the Apple battery case is probably the worst design of any case in history.period.
it's embarrassingly bad.

Would you be willing to accept the consequence of degraded cellular reception/transmission, and greater battery drain from a battery case that didn't have the hump?

Since the Mophie also prioritizes charging the phone first and then the case. I could technically charge my phone via USB-C if I go with the Mophie. That would actually let me travel with one less charging cable setup. Hmmm...

I've found off-brand battery cases (even wireless charging ones) work better than mophie. :/
There’s a decent chance you’ve gotten a counterfeit Mophie. I got one from Amazon and though it bore a passable resemblance to a Mophie I already had, it was clearly a counterfeit and seemed like half of it was hollow lol.

I always stick with Mophie and I probably always will.

But this case has its issues. I don't the copied Apple design, I rather have a thicker top and have a better cosmetic look. But that's a minor issue.

The main issue is the lowered edges. Mophies edges were always very low but just high enough for the phone from scratches on a flat floor surface.

This model is way too low, ur phone will scratch and crack. I haven't cracked my screen since my first iPhone 3GS and I cracked it within the first month of using it with this case.

Just be extra careful when using this case and beware if you drop it using the Mophie case.

I've been using the Apple case for about three weeks and love it. Okay, it's a bit heavy and not exactly aesthetically pleasing but it means I can now sometimes go four days in between charging (I usually switch it to Power Save overnight and disable cellular - both through the control panel) and with the 30W USB-C Charger, it juices up both the case and phone at the same time - both hitting about 95% after only an hour.

I also love the tight iOS integration and there are no silly lights (that don't give granular measurements) on the back. The Apple case also completely covers the bottom and yet Apple's tolerances are so good that the speaker grilles line up absolutely perfectly. The black silicon also feels good with a nice firm grip. Apple's solution is simple and elegant. It manages everything for you, no on/off button or other such nonsense.

If you want a smart battery case, Apple's is by far the best option (IMO).

Have you considered setting up a Siri Shortcut for your nighttime routine? You could do all that in one shot either by a Siri command or a shortcut on your home screen, then turn it all back with another Shortcut.

I mocked up a quick one just to show you:

Siri Shortcuts doesn’t get enough credit. It is a super powerful tool.

i like the ability to control when I want to charge my phone with the external battery... Also. no Apple battery case for iphone 7 or 8???

I'm sticking with mophie

Why do you need that? I have been trying to understand it. Seems like you might as well keep power in your phone vs your case.

One looks like a cheap thick battery case, the other looks like a nice Apple silicon case with a tumor. Both look hideous, but the Apple case is much more aesthetically pleasing, easier to take off, feels nice. Better battery and tight OS integration.

It’s a no brainer

ähm, the review said the mophie is easier to remove?! so your comments seem a bit strange ...

I'd prefer a phone that was designed for actual use from the start, without the need for added humps that make using any protective case impossible. Granted, I haven't tried this new case for more than fiddle around with it in the store and ultimately deciding to leave it there. Not ready to give up on my SurfacePad plus the silicone's added friction makes putting it into my pocket and pulling it out too hard. I'll just stick with chargers everywhere so I can survive through the day, hoping someone sees the light and makes an iPhone with an actual battery instead of the toys they stick into them these days.

Or you could just be a bit more organised and not have a two inch thick phone. I use my XS about 3-4 hours a day according to Screentime, and I usually have 30-40% battery left when I go to bed and charge it. I think anybody who needs to charge their phone more than once a day is using it too much.

That's cool. Thanks for sharing. I'll be sure to try it out.

I thought that was fixed in the latest version of iOS? (Ok, I'm not sure whether it was 12.1.4 or 12.2 that fixed this.)

Whatever happened to making elegant looking cases that don't look like a bigger phone swallowed a smaller phone
Can you point to an example from the past that doesn't have that problem?

You probably don’t understand how the apple case works then and why it’s better. Ultimately if you buy something other than the apple case you’re a not smart person.

What do you mean with 'more organised? Do you mean place/carry chargers strategically and use them diligently?
I think anybody who needs to charge their phone more than once a day is using it too much.
What criterium do you use to determine what is 'too much'?
  • More than you?
  • More than is healthy (where your consumption is already borderline)?
  • More than Apple designed the battery for?

Why doesn’t Mophie support lightning charging in their cases though? I don’t get it. Apple has supported this for years and there a million cases on Amazon that support lighting charging for the battery. It’s infuriating for the amount they charge for their cases.

Mophie would get kicked out of the MFI program because no one is allowed to have a lightning port on these. None of those companies follow the rules.

I agree there will be a small amount of people who genuinely need hours and hours of phone battery life per day - mobile testers, game developers, etc. But let's face it, that is not who buys these cases. 90% of people who run out of battery do so because they are disorganised (eg forget to charge it overnight.)

As for your second question, I think I use my phone too much. 4 hours is one sixth of a day including sleep, more like a quarter of a waking day. Most people, apart from the small group of genuine users I mention above, do not need to use a phone that much, they are simply addicted to social media etc. I am glad screentime came along because it highlighted my own use, and I am trying to cut it down.
