Here's something that's even weirder. My wife's iPhone 5 is basically setup like mine.....no push email, iCloud syncing, etc. Only real difference is she doesn't have Bluetooth turned on.

She does use LTE because she works in Boston, which has full AT&T LTE coverage. So last night I tested and charged her phone to 100% and left LTE on.

Unlike my phone, when I woke up this morning, her phone was still at 100%.

So know tonight I'm going to try turning LTE on on my phone and Bluetooth off to see if that's what is causing the 4-6% drop overnight.

For BT on my phone....it's always on, but my headset is usually off.

Just an update....I charged the phone to 100% last night before bed. This time I kept LTE on (and I'm not in an LTE area), but I turned Bluetooth off.

Woke up this morning to the phone still at 100%.

So now I'm guessing that Bluetooth is the cause for my 4-6% drop overnight.

Going to charge it up again tonight and keep both LTE and BT on and see if I get the drop again.

-Kevin

That sounds about right with the BT being on. I know when I did reset all settings that solved my losing 5-10% overnight. Another couple of options that I thought of could possibly be draining battery life is iTunes Match - User Cellular Data and WiFi sync.

Well during our car travel yesterday I went from LTE to 4g about 1/3 way into the trip and the rest of the trip was flip flopping from 4G, 3G, and EDGE. 2 and half hour trip with Apple Maps running all the way (used as our GPS). I got about 5 hours and 30 min of usage and almost a day of standby. I think that's pretty close to normal considering the heavy usage.

Will update the next couple days.

Quick update, I let my battery drain yesterday and charged it back up to 100% around 7p last night. Let it completely idle with no wifi, LTE on about 3-4 bars, mail push on. Dropped 10% overnight the next morning at around 6a. I'm not sure if that's normal or not.

How soon after it hit 100% did you take the phone off of the charger?

I hope they push out an update to fix these issues. My battery is dropping really quickly like 20% in an hr at work with screen off. So there must be a glitch. I've since restored to a new software. I don't want to have to toggle Bluetooth and settings just to make it a day. I had to do that with the galaxy s3 an that was annoying

I've noticed a dramatic improvement with the battery in my 5.

I picked up the 5 the day it was released for me and for my wife. We both noticed the battery was performing extremely poor compared to our previous iPhones.

We've both seen dramatic improvement in the battery life without changing anything. As of right now the battery is at 41% and my usage is 6.5 hours of usage and 1 day on standby. I wasn't seeing this two weeks ago.

I have push notifications, wi-fi, and LTE on.

Is this what most people have noticed? That battery life improves after a few weeks?

Because right now I'm on 27% with only 4 hrs usage. Only had my iPhone for a few days. Hoping this will improve as S3 had a far better battery life.

I'm pretty sure it's signal strength.

When I'm at home or about the city, I get nearly full signal. LTE works great. My battery life averages 10 hours. However I teach a few times a week in a small practice room with 1-2 bars. I still get LTE, but it drops back to 4G frequently. I also use navigation and maps more. 5-6 hours is the norm on those days.

I noticed with my 4s roaming extender kicks in that may also drain battery out so I disabled all romaing unless im in a weak spot.

I charge it on my macbook and I wait about 30 minutes after it hits 100%, till the battery icon in iTunes shows the plug and not the lightning bolt.

I've gotten noticeably better results with 1 1/2- 2 hours on the charger after going to 100%, do you think you could try that and see what usage time you get after that?

I actually plan on leaving it on overnight tonight. I'll let you know tomorrow. Today has gone much better actually. The difference, I quit those tap and wait games. Hay Day and Tapped Out. I double hit the home button where all the icons are shaking and quit those games. It looks I may squeeze a couple more hours out of it. I'll let you know tonight.

I had a genius appt about battery life and all she did was restore phone. Would not give me a replacement

In another bizarre twist....I charged to 100% last night and this time left BT and LTE on. Woke up this morning still at 100%.

I have no idea why.....as before it was consistently losing 4-6%.

-Kevin

From what I've seen it typically takes longer for that 1-2% discharge at 100% and 1%. But once it goes beyond that it should drop as normal.

Well I was able to get around 9 hours of usage yesterday and still had about 7% to go, could've gone longer but I was tired and charged it overnight. So I'm pretty sure those tap and wait games running the background are causing such drastic loss in battery life. Today I'm going to try and squeeze 10 hours if I can with mostly Pandora all day and some browsing and e-mail. This is all at 4G btw without LTE, I'm on vacation at the beach and they don't have LTE here.

I'm able to get 100% overnight but with BT off. Not sure why either, perhaps something else you changed?

Well, I definitely squeezed out more than 10 hours of usage yesterday without those games running. Check below. LTE on, but no local service; 4G on 3-4 bars average; BT off; Pandora usage on WiFi and 4G (mostly 4G).

What are your details? BT on or off? LTE on or off? Mostly on Wifi or cellular?

Thanks for taking the time.

I understand usage time however I just don't see playing pandora with the screen off as true usage. I also do that and my usage time goes up quite a bit with less battery loss. Although I define true usage as the screen actually being on ... That's just me ...

I can see your point, I just figured it's something simple I can use that would use cellular signal or WiFi and be running in the background. I'll see if I can modify my tests. Any suggestions?

Just something strange I noticed today...

My battery today has been awful - seems like it has drained faster than anytime before.

Currently says 18%.

Usage - 4 hours 35 minutes
Standby - 7 hours, 28 minutes.

Total, thats almost 12 hours...I took my phone off of the charger at 8:30am and now it is 4:15pm. Only approximately 8 hours have elapsed. To top it off, I swear that I haven't put 4 hours of use on it. I've taken two phone calls on it (for no more than 5 minutes) and missed a call. I've had 4 text conversations, totalling no more than 15 messages sent/recieved and surfed the web 3 times today no more than 5 minutes each session.

When I took it off the charger, I remember seeing the green battery on the screen (but don't recall looking at the actual charge indicator). Since it charged overnight, I'm assuming it was at 100% when I took it from the charger this morning.

Strange.
