Silly question, I just picked up my first iphone... what indicates that its fully charged or where does it indicate the percentage of charge? I see the large image of the battery in the center of my phone, its fully green. I suppose im 100%?

Thanks

The small battery at the upper right has a plug in the middle when charging is complete. There's a little lightning bolt when it's still charging.

you're not 100% until the batter icon along the top of the phone shows a little plug image (see the post above yours)

yesterday I had 7 hours usage and 18 hours standby since last full charge. the battery was definitely about to go, but that's reasonable enough for me in terms of usage/standby time.

Anyone know the answer to this??

Electricity is electricity. Charging via USB or charging via the mains uses the same pins, same voltage, everything. Charging via mains MIGHT be a bit faster, but I don't know for sure. I charge ONLY by USB and it's wicked fast.

my usage after about 24 hrs. I only had it plugged into a car charger (to play music) for maybe 5 minutes.

Thanks.. That was my thinking..

How the heck are you able to take screen shots of your iPhone??

Update on my battery...yesterday I got the 20% warning, and did exactly one hour (literally 60 minutes to the second) of 3G browsing, non stop, and at that point the iPhone shut off. Does that make sense to anyone?

Here's my usage, snapshot taken right away when I plugged in the iPhone after the battery finally died:

1.5 hours internet via 3G (and boy is it fast compared to EDGE where I'm at)
1.5 hours using App Store software (Facebook and epocrates)
1.25 hours music
10 mins GPS and Google Maps
10 mins phone
3G on 95% of the time
Wifi also on 50% of the time when I was at home and overnight
BT off
Push contacts, calendar, mail with MobileMe (I get about 20 emails a day)
Manual IMAP email
Location services on (it turns on automatically when I click OK in Google Maps when it asks)

Howcome my standby time = usage time = 12 hours?

When my iPhone autolocks or when I press the sleep button, is that considered standby?

Today I've been using my iPhone and for a lot of the time it was asleep. But then why would these 2 times be equal? Thanks!

when the phone sleeps, it is considered standby. as to why your phone's standby and usage time are the same, i'm not sure. playing any music?

No. Maybe because the mail was set to check every hour? Other then that I can't tell what's happening - looks like I'm getting jipped here!

I am getting just over 26 hours standby and just under 6 hours usage till my iphone turned off. I took it up to bed last night and left it charging on my old ipod charger. Thinking it was charging. Nope, I wake up this morning to find this is not compatible message. Now I am waiting for the thing to fully charge then I will go off to work and monitor todays usage.

AIUI a compliant USB port can supply up to a max of 500ma, whether this is the maximum that the iPhone can draw when charging is another matter. If USB port is shared then the iPhone will receive a proportion of the available 500ma.

Ok, now I took this scrrenshot this afternoon before I took the phone off the charger. This time, I'll let it go down all the way to 10% mark and post another screenshot. Let's see..... you think I can get ~20hr standby this time?

maybe if u don't use it? ;)

there you go, RESULTS ;
just got 10% warning...
I believe, it could go for another 30mins- 1hr.. but hey I said 10% mark, there it is... easily passed 20hr standby, with almost 5hrs usage...
This is way better than my 1st gen iphone...

i need help deciding whether my iPhones battery is bad or not..

i got it on july 12th.. so its been through quite alot of cyles already.

right now i am at the 10% warning..

Usage: 5 hrs, 8 minutes
Standby: 15 hours, 15 minutes

this is all from today..
i did heavy gps usage (on edge.. no 3G here)
a total of 30 minutes on the phone at the most
checked a couple of emails
played apps for only like 5 minutes
random application opening and closing

everything is turned off.. wifi, location services, push, 3G, etc.

Somedays i hardly use the iPhone and its already to like 40%.. i feel like that is my average.. charging it at night and the next night its at 40% or less. i'm not a "heavy" user.. so i am just curious to know if my battery is good or not?

I had two days of stand-by, and a good 5 hours of usage. Not bad at all. I take a screeny next time.

Question to OP: How the hell have you managed to use 700+MB of data?

How long should my iPhone battery be holding up?
I turned it off from 3g to edge so I can have better performance...
I also turned email to fetch rather than push.
My concern is, (I just got it Wednesday), that after a day and a half, I have to charge up after minimal iPod usage, heavy texting, minimal internet, minimal phone calling...
Is this normal?

don't know if you can see it but 1.1 GB this month and still had 2 percent when done with the picture

Ahhhh Things are getting better. I did really Good with my battery today so that mean things are going to be nice when they give up that update.. So on that note this is my battery as of now...Mine u i did have edge on for about a day so i think mabye i would have gotten a lesser battery with 3g but sh*t i'll take it...I guess if u really not going to be on the internet turn 3g off but i know some of u know this already
