I am getting well over a day. Which is great for me.

Yeah, 3G iPhone battery life under anecdotal but acceptable nominal use scenarios is about half that of the EDGE iPhone. I HAVE to charge my EDGE iPhone maybe once every 5 days -- I may do it more -- but it's probably a good idea to drop the 3G iPhone in the dock -- if you bought one since it no longer comes with one -- or connect it to the charger, every night.

If you never had an EDGE iPhone you won't likely notice the difference so much, but the WOW! battery life is definitely gone.

How long should my iPhone battery be holding up?
I turned it off from 3g to edge so I can have better performance...
I also turned email to fetch rather than push.
My concern is, (I just got it Wednesday), that after a day and a half, I have to charge up after minimal iPod usage, heavy texting, minimal internet, minimal phone calling...
Is this normal?

My battery is getting better all the time.

I got seven and three quarter hours before the phone finally shut down.

3G, Push and Location services are all turned on :)

By that same token, if you've used other 3G phones before, the iPhone 3G's battery life is surprisingly decent.

That is pretty good. but what was your usage like? Listening to music mostly, or browsing etc?

Ok this has been bothering me what is the clock in the right hand corner by the play icon

that clock is the alarm icon. if you set an alarm that clock will appear until the alarm is turned off or passed. I'll be posting my battery picture later on today.

I just got my phone, charged it all night, and this morning it lasted about 3 hours total. What gives? I noticed standby and usage time were equal, that doesn't seem right, anyone know why it is constantly active?

Do you have push or fetch e-mail activated? Location services? Try turning everything off, including wireless and bluetooth, except 3G. Your battery may take some time to condition, but if this problem persists for more than a week or two, you should take it back for a return.

Battery not too bad at all!

I would agree about battery life - it definitely seems to be improving. I have MobileMe pushing email constantly and Wifi on all the time.

This is definitely worth noting - if you have ever owned or used a Nokia N95, you'll know exactly what poor battery life really is...

Similarly, a lot of the HTC WinMo handsets (specially ones like the TyTn with the sliding keyboard) are just as shocking... the iPhone 3G really is a whole lot better than most 3G phones.

Absolutely great for me. Only had it four days, and used it to hell, but got over 10 hours of use (browsing, running apps) from the first charge. The 3G reception where I live is very poor, though, so I've turned that off, along with WiFi, Bluetooth and location services.

I know, I know, I'll get a lot of "Why buy the phone then?" for that. But personally I want a good mobile with handy internet access (EDGE is more than fine for the sites I visit), maps (when needed), and the ability to add extra games and utilities.

I think it's superb. Not perfect (had a couple of Safari crashes), but nothing major. I just hope that Apple drops a 'low power mode' toggle switch into 2.1 which kinda reflects my setup (just EDGE), so that new users who don't know all the switches don't just assume it's a horrible battery muncher...

Yep -- I switched from a TyTn II (i.e., ATT Tilt) which is way more of a battery hog than iPhone 3G. I also get better call quality on my iPhone.

So, this is what happened.

I noticed my exchange push was constantly connecting. The time last updated was always the current minute. I deleted the account and re-added and now it doesn't constantly poll the server. Now usage time doesn't equal standby time. Something must of been jacked up when I first set it up.

One theory...the first time I mistyped the password (as I am not use to this keyboard) and then had to retry the password until it worked. Maybe that put it in a state to constantly sync?

Couple bad batches?

1st time poster, long time observer...

I purchased a gen 1 iPhone last year on day one and was able to get about 2 days worth of standby out of my phone. I purchased a 16GB white 3G iPhone this year on the 11th. The first 3 phones that I had would barely make it through 12 hours with most services turned off. My current and 4th iPhone finally has delivered the quality I was expecting. I am now getting almost 6 hours worth of usage and 1 day 8 hours worth of standby. I know that a lot of forum members are unhappy with people who complain about the battery life, but it is my opinion that there had to of been a bad batch of batteries in release day inventory. Any thoughts?
