I'm getting 10-15% discharge per day off my first 7 charge. I didn't think I did anything special, just an OTA upgrade. But I now recall doing a complete wipe and fresh start a few months back, no restore.

Has anyone with the drain issue, then tried a clean install and seen success? If you can test runtime before retiring your data, this would be even better.

My is delicious thus far. Turn off the motion, monitor your god enable apps etc...

The reset all settings and network settings helped my battery life and lag noticeably.

Worth a shot!

I got a 4S too, first day after upgrade was really bad for the battery ...
then I started to look at the settings ...

- All the apps where using the "background app refresh" setting
- Localisation settings had the Frequent Localisation setting
- I had de Paralax setting ON
- Had an animated background
- Had automatic download of new version of Apps

I disabled all of the above and the battery came back to normal on par with iOS6. I dont think its an OS thing. Its more a setting thats causing background work and stress on the battery that we did not have before.

After 4 iOS upgrades ... I have come to see a trend like this ... everything we upgrade Apple adds new features that are Enabled without us knowing it, and does background work all the time.

Just look at these threads after upgrading to iOS 5 and 6 !!!

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4310494?start=0&tstart=0

how time passes by fast and how fast we forget !! :p

I turned off all the settings you mentioned, and battery is still draining excessively.

Happy it worked for you, but that isn't working for everyone. I'm at or blew 50% by 1pm consistently. Used to make it to 5pm before the happened. In the morning, if I used Tunein radio with iOS 6 in the morning, the most it would drain would be to 90%. Now with iOS 7, it' been down between 75-80%.

Dramatic difference.

Ironic! months of testing by Apple and who knows how many thousands of developers...And we get a new iOS, with grou dbreaking features.....most of which have to be disabled because it seems nobody spotted tbe battery draining.

My Retina iPad went from 100% to 16% in three hours...but after going through and re-setting things.....so far it seems back to normal, but without a loD of these groundbreaking features.

I think I've found another thing to turn off, and this one actually helped my 4S battery dramatically!!!! I don't know if this was mentioned before or not, but got to Settings>Privacy>Location Services>Scroll down to System Services and again scroll down and shut off Frequent Locations!!!! This adjustment helped my battery and maybe make it even better than iOS6 (don't know for sure). More than 5 hours standby with some usage I lost only 12%!!!! Give it a try!!!!!! :):):)

^^ ditto. with the right settings, I've been getting no difference if not better performance out of my 4s.

Update on day three.

It seems like my iPhone 4S battery is getting really much better every day. I did let it "die down" twice (hardly by choice though!) and did two full recharges. Not only did it calibrate the battery, and that´s always good, but now it seems to perform noticeably better. It´s still too early to tell, so I´ll do more testing tomorrow, but right now the stats read:

Since last full charge: USAGE 7 HRS 57 MIN, STANDBY 1 DAY 3 HRS , with battery right now at 74%.

It´s actually probably even better than with iOS 6, but again too early to tell.

For the record, the steps I have taken to increase battery life thus far:

*Disabled app background refresh
*Disabled location services I don´t use
*Disable notifications for apps I don´t need
*Disabled local weather
*Turned off bluetooth
*Disabled nearly all system services location services
*Set to auto brightness
*Lock after 1 minute

Note: I have both parallax and dynamic wallpapers as lock screen set to on! (love that eye candy too much!)

nearly 8 hours of usage and still have 74% of battery left? Is your battery made by nuclear reactor?

LOL Yes it is a bit weird and I also thought about that. That´s why I said in my post that it´s too early to tell. I ´ll wait a few more charges and note down the stats along the way and keep the thread posted

That definitely seems like a lot

I have an iPhone 4 running iOS 7 and it is currently at 51% after 7.25hrs since last being on the charger (100%). Maybe 5mins of phone calls, a few texts, 30mins of streaming from NPR news app, 3hrs of listening to podcasts from the BBC's page on safarai, and 1.5hrs on the Music app.

This is about right for me too on my 4S.

Here are two screenshots of my usage. One taken the other day, the other one right now.

Just to illustrate the HUGE difference within only a few days!!

LOL... Never seen such great battery life before... Is it a bug?

I have no idea! I am keeping an eye on this for that reason, cuz it´s changing so fast. Besides the stats, I HAVE noticed my battery has been better today, probably even better than on iOS6, but too early to tell.

That´s not correct, because you have already Charged your iphone since the last Full Charge. So we cannot say for sure what is your real usage ( without charging in between ). That Would be too good to be true.

I charged my iphone last night at midnight, after I let it drain until it turned itself off, and left it to charge until I woke up. Turned it on today at 10 am and these are the stats (last screenshot). I did not charge it at all today.

If u turned it on, today @ 10 AM, how do you already have 1 Full Day ( 24 hours ) of Standby ;) ?

Exactly! That´s why I said it is weird and I am not sure if its a bug like someone else suggested or what. Hence I´ll keep observing the stats in the next few days or so.

Stats aside, battery life is noticeably better today, so I hope the usage will display correctly in the near future as well

My girlfriend has the same issue. Around 9pm I was playing with her phone - all of her apps were updated, and when she went to bed it was around 50%. This morning it was dead. No background updates, not even any use! There's definitely a problem.

Possible battery issues are the reason why I haven't updated my 4S yet. Thanks to everyone reporting their experiences.

Battery Life on 4S with iOS7

If you take a look at your screenshots you will notice under stand by that it says "iPhone has been plugged in since last full charge" so you might have connected with usb and it has been chagrin the batt as well. Such usage and battery life are absolutely impossible to be made with any iphone without additional charging.

Battery life fine. I have been using the phone much more playing with the new features and getting used to the look. As for the poster who said his phone wentbromm 100% to zero overnight I cannot understand that, mine went from 100 to 97 overnight (9 hours)

I don´t doubt those stats are off, but I DID plug in my iPhone only last night until it fully charged and I have not charged it or plugged it in since. So yeah something is off in the readings. Overall my battery is good though now, so much better than yesterday.

Looks like my iPhone is pretty much back to its normal, if not better...
