This supports OP point of warning lights being a nag…..

Pilot's should have ignored the nagging warning light's……

If I have to hit 'OK' button for low battery warning on my iPhone - I could potentially crash into a light post or worst in another car if I am driving…

Actually it was a lack of a light. If the gear is down and locked, you get a green light. In this case, the nose gear did NOT give a green light so they broke off the approach and went to circle in the Everglades to investigate. They wanted to replace the bulb to confirm that the gear was, in fact, down and locked. The light would have saved everyone on board. Sadly, they were all distracted by replacing the bulb. Indeed it was a crew management error, but still. . .

More regrettably, the gear was, in fact, down and locked. So if the light had worked, the people on board would not have perished in an awful crash. Sometimes warnings and indicators are a good thing.

PS - don't mess with your phone while driving. Ha ha.

I commend the OP for starting this thread - it raises so many social issues !!!

Also commend OP, as this thread has provided some light hearted amusement compared from the negativity on other threads…

Well done Sir !!!

That's what you get for posting in a forum with one or two glasses of wine too many sloshing around in your head.

Still, :) as I said, a soft reminder and not a sudden stop would be better, fine if people need telling at 20, 10 and 5% in such a manner that your attention gets broken off to confirm you have understood, that's ok.

To liken it to a car fuel gauge is just plain wrong, you car doesn't suddenly apply all the brakes whilst your travelling, come to a full stop, bong that annoying bong sound accompanied by the Siri voice saying, "you only have fuel for another 20 miles" Then proceed to do this at 10 miles, and then at 5 miles remaining. No as it's a soft reminder, a simple amber light, apparently the exact colour in the spectrum range which women are unable to see!

As to the pilot who referenced his iPad going flat mid flight. One I'm sure your airline will have procedures in place where any devices like the iPad would be fully charge at the start of a shift, plus a charger on board. Two, wait until you get the "press here if you understand, or are plain blind that your battery will die in approximately two hour" pop up just as your looking at an approach chart just after a TOGA has been called, whilst a collision warning has been issued by the nice man in the tower, and it's your co-pilots first day on the job.

Discuss :)

Ahahahahah. Classic!

Do we really need the pop up telling the user the battery is going flat at set % intervals? Having a toggle off would be nice at the minimum, it's not that hard to see the battery level surely?

Or just do away with it please

You can't see the % in some apps, such as games

To dig this "issue" up again. This is the first time I've noticed this in iOS7 so not sure if this happened previously, although having owned iphone since the original phone I thought I would have come up before.

So, I was speaking to a customer earlier today, I knew my battery was getting low, after being interrupted while composing an email earlier. Suddenly it sounded like we had been cut off, asked if he still there, nothing, ah crap my battery has died but to my horror when I looked at my phone it was sat with the 10% reminder say "press here if you understand that my battery is getting on the low side" nag. I had to press ok to continue my phone call.

I find that VERY intrusive to say the least, really interrupt my phone call to tell me the battery is dying? If this is how Apple intended this to work then it must be the first phone EVER do be so rude as to do this.

Hasn't happened like that in iOS 7 or earlier versions in my experience--I just get a funky sounding (although somewhat toned down in iOS 7) low battery alert while I'm in a call and can continue talking normally. Sounds like you might have experienced some weird (perhaps sporadic or simply one-time) glitch of some sort.

Yeah usual a tone, will be interesting if it happens again. I'll be reporting it as a bug to Apple if it does lol
