Day 1, Day 2, and Day 3.

Day 1 I used Facetime hella, Day 2 I used Pandora hella, Day 3 I used it as I would normally. Except I unplugged it before I went to bed.

mine is the same way, im at 36% after a slightly above normal use day. I have it set up no different then my 3GS was and im getting about the same results. I would think it would be better then this.
You're pretty paranoid. People don't realize that 36% is still OVER 1/3 THE BATTERY LEFT. I know it's a relatively low number, but your phone still has quite a bit of juice in it.

My battery has been remarkably better than my 3GS. Everything is on except for Bluetooth and location services with screen lit to about 60% or so. I have used the phone pretty heavily, checking mail, surfing, watching videos, phone calls, streaming audio, etc. Here's a screen shot I took a little while ago.

Here's one I just took:

My image is attached. Shave off about 2 hours of the standby time though, as its been charging from 0% battery since then. Disregard the battery percentage that's on the image, the usage was the same as when it was at 1%, it just died the second I went to take a picture of it and I haven't got around to it until now :)

Question for everyone on this thread...

Do you have auto brightness turned off? I have found that having it turned on can negatively affect your battery life, so I just thought I'd ask if anyone had it enabled as that could impact their numbers.

Auto brightness is not disabled in my case. And newbie, no offense, but we have some experience members on this site and I'm fairly sure they know this, however, I thank you for trying to be helpful.

Why would that matter?

I couldn't tell you, but it did for me. Battery life has improved considerably since doing a clean restore and setting up as a new phone. Lost 10% overnight the first night I had the phone, but after the restore lost about 15% with an hour and a half of surfing and playing Carcassonne over WiFi, which is right in line with the stated battery life.

I can try burning the battery without charging it for today. Will post my results.

Mine was set up as new as I just bought a MBP, so new computer paired with new iPhone.

Apple Tech Support suggested a reset then if that didn't work, a restore. I am going with the second option as the phone was sitting on the counter, in a 5 bar coverage area, and it dropped from 100% to 96% in less than 1 hour. My suspicion is that maybe this new battery indicator is more accurate than the one on my 3GS, so it seems like its draining faster than it really is, but Friday I was at 20% at 5PM (fully charged at 6:30AM).

Currently I'm at 59%. I have used it for 3 Hours 20 Minutes and standby of 11 Hours and 52 Minutes. I played Puzzle Quest, SKOB, and Street Fighter for about a hour minutes total, sent and received about 50 text, emailed people, talked for 43 minutes, and the rest was streaming podcast and music. Overall, I am truly impressed with what the battery can do compared to other smartphones. :D

Much much better today. 1.5 hours use so far, 5 hours standby and I'm still at 96%. yesterday it was 3.5 hours use 14 hours standby and it was in the upper 20% when I went to bed.

12 hour battery life per full charge

For the past two days, I've been using mine heavily.

Mostly data, and mostly over WiFi.
Minimal voice
Push on
Brightness at about 75%
Taking some photos and about 5 10 second videos

I would gladly have the device be 1 mm thicker if it had better battery life.

Come on, not everyone who looks to this forum is an experienced member. So he is being helpful to new (or clueless) users. Don't they deserve this help?

Been losing around 2%/hour in standby. Waking up to a 20% drop after sleeping ~8-9 hours is disheartening. I've turned off wifi and cellular data, going to test battery life now. Deleted all e-mail & exchange accounts as well.

I notice a small improvement with regular use, maybe 20%. The big difference is when connected to bluetooth. My phone is always connected when in my car, and also when home (connected to my home phone). The 3Gs battery dropped 3 to 4% each hour. With the i4 it takes 2 or 3 hours to drop even 1%. This is with everything on including 3G, wifi, exchange syncing, 3 email accounts checking mail etc. Very welcome improvement.

No antenna problems, but I will always use a case anyway. :)

Pretty much all Internet browsing over 3G, so it's giving me about as much life as apple said it would, I still wish it lasted longer though.

The battery life is awesome so far i've listened to slacker for 2 hours,Played a couple of games, used GPS and safari for a few hours, phone calls and i still have like 55 percent or so.

Thank you! I've had every iPhone since the original and would consider myself a get experienced user. Just because indont have the time to post on a forum constantly doesn't make me a true newbie.

I must say, I'm not that impressed with the battery life thus far. Yesterday I ended the day at 2AM at 13%. It had a full charge earlier at Noon. I wasn't using it all that crazy, either.

I'd say it doesn't yet have better battery life than my 2 year old 3G did at the end of its life.

Will try and wear it all the way down today and compare.

What are your expectations of the battery? My old 3GS would need a charge about 3/4 through the day. Now I can go through the next morning with my 4 and not charge. That's a huge improvement. I run it just as hard as my 3GS.
Than there's obviously something wrong with your 3GS because I can make the day with a 3GS with just one simple charge (over-night).

To answer OP's questions: it does not matter when you charge it or for how long.

http://www.apple.com/batteries/iphone.html

Though it's best to just once a month let it drop to 0% (so until your iPhone shuts down it self) and charge it up to 100%. It's not necessary, but recommended.

Further you've got a certain amount of cycles before the battery gets older. One cycle is from 0 to 100%. Or from 20% to 80% and than 0 to 20%.

My car fuel gage stays above half for a long time then drops like a rock... my iPhone 4G is the opposite... drops fast to half then drops like a feather ...

Also when I charge it at night I turn it off and use a power cord not the iMac.

I don't think they ever last as long as we would like and I am looking into some sort of battery extender... you know some portable battery to connect to it just in case... no clue what they are called. Off to Google/Yahoo/Bing to find out...

Is it a bad thing to totally let the battery run down so the phone shuts itself off?

And, I think I'm going to disable the battery percentage display. It has caused me to be paranoid. I find myself scrutinizing it all day.
